Ray Bradbury was an award-winning American author best known for Fahrenheit 451 and The Martian Chronicles. Many people would argue Ray Bradbury was the king of science fiction writing. Bradbury, whose work has traveled the world for more than 50 years, was a novelist, short-story writer, essayist, playwright, screenwriter, and poet. Bradbury was born in Waukegan, Illinois on August 22, 1920, the third son of Leonard Bradbury and Esther Marie Moberg Bradbury. In 1926 Ray Bradbury’s family moved from Waukegan, Illinois to Tucson, Arizona. As a child, he was a huge fan of magicians, and a voracious reader of adventure and fantasy fiction. He published his first short story in a fan magazine in 1938, the same year that he graduated high school. Soon after, he published many more issues of that same fan magazine, Futuria Fantasia. Bradbury didn’t use anyone’s advice, and wrote these short stories by himself. Bradbury said “I was still years away from writing my first good short story,” he later said, “but I could see my future. I knew where I wanted to go.”(www.biography.com). At this point, Bradbury knows he can be a good writer, but it’s going to take some time and effort. Just before World War II, Bradbury published the story Pendulum in 1941. This was considered Bradbury’s first story. Following this story was the collection Dark Carnival. Bradbury was soon known all over the world after his publication of The Martian Chronicles in 1950. This book was mostly focused on ancient Greek and Roman mythology. Bradbury was not satisfied with the adapted film of this book. Bradbury’s best work, Fahrenheit 451, was published in 1953.
