Every parent should always like to see their child be successful. Whether or not being successful in sports or being successful in music or art. Lisa Mooney a publisher for livestrong.com says, “Many parents wonder whether they should encourage their children to play sports. It is known that athletic participation aids in fighting childhood obesity, encourages social interaction and promotes self-confidence and independence in many children. Pushing reticent children into sports, however, can have adverse consequences, because competition can place too much pressure to succeed on even recreational athletes. Being the parent on the side line, it is hard to see your child go through losing a game or even going through an injury. No parent likes to see their child take sports too heart. Fred Fornicola a writer for breakingmuscle.com says, “We must recognize that a lot of today’s young athletes are self-driven, while others, let’s be honest, seem to have competition thrust upon them. Parents who were athletes themselves or who are trying to make up for their failed athletic youth attempt to live vicariously through their children and tend to push their kids, even to a point of injuring them. We even see it in the professional arena when players suffer a concussion one week and are back on the playing field the next and, somehow, this represents the heart of a warrior” (Fornicola, 2016). However, placing your child in a sport and allowing them to thrive to be the best that they can be will teach your child a tremendous amount of responsibilities. Whether or not your child wants to play sports or not, you as a parent should be able to stand by your child in whatever decision they may make in life. But having your child play sports will allow them to be more active in playing and also allow them to live a more healthy life instead of your child sitting on the couch and watching TV. Placing children in sports can teach them many goals in life, they will be able to use them when they grow older, especially when they reach middle or high school level
