These people may not splint broken bones, give shots, or give medications, but these people help with all other areas of the healthcare industry. I chose this field to talk about because my uncle, Martin Slone, works at Pikeville Medical Center as a Radiologist Technician. What is a Radiologist Technician? A Radiologist Technician is a person who uses different types of machines to take pictures of the insides of bodies. These pictures can help doctors see if someone is injured or has something wrong with different parts of the body.

What are the differences between professional component and technical component of radiological services? Knowing the difference is extremely important because the difference can mean a monetary difference to the physician, on how much reimbursement will be. Knowing this and knowing which to bill for also makes an important difference. The professional component covers what the physician does, which is the interpretation, and nothing else. The technical component covers any equipment used, facilities, non-medical staff, and supplies, everything needed for the procedure, except the physician. We also should include the global billing, because that is when all charges, including the physician, and the equipment, facilities, and such were completed at one location. Global is a combination of professional and technical charges because all services were performed at one location. There are modifier codes that are added at the end of the procedure codes that indicate what type of service that is being billed.

Radiologic Technologists, also known as "R.T.s", are professionals who are licensed and certified as specialists in one or more imaging techniques. In the contrary, a Radiologic Technician is a licensed and certified professional who only operates the x-ray imaging equipment to produce clear concise x-ray images for the physicians. A Radiologic Technologist is able to perform all the duties of a Technician. However, they are also tasked and considered as expert for their particular field of specialty.

X-ray techs with limited operator helps patients prepare for exams. They explain the procedures to the patient in step by step detail. Patient education is always the most import part of any role.

Although I was aware that some rad techs were practicing in some states without a license; I was still surprise by this report, which states that the Sunset Advisory Commission recommends eliminating the need licensure for nearly 20 medical occupations. In the last couple months, we have learned a substantial amount of information on patient dose, dose limits, proper shielding and the roles we are going to play as technologist as well as our responsibilities and how the choices that we make can either have a positive or negative effects on our patients if we are not careful or if the radiation is mishandled. But, before you can get started on any x-rays, there are questions about their medical history that need to be asked first. Organizing and neatness can be a major key in keeping up with medical records of patients. Although you think your job may be just x-rays and the like, you still have a physician present in the room at all times who will be giving you instructions on where to x-ray the patient.

As a radiological technologist, there are many essential duties and responsibilities that have to be fulfilled in order to be a good one. First of all, radiological technologists have to maintain a well-mannered and professional behavior when gathering information. They have to assure their patients that they are in good hands therefore; they give patients the uppermost quality of care and services. Second of all, the main responsibility of a healthcare provider is to keep all knowledge of a patient’s health record confidential or secluded.
