During the earlier years of my tennis career, about the age of seven, my parents had learned of a nearby organization at Watkins Park Maryland. The organization was known as the Prince George’s Tennis and Education Foundation. It was here where I began to make my largest strides in my life, both academically and athletically.
On the afternoon of August 8th, 2016 a young girl was facing the tennis match of her life. The Girls 14s Nationals were coming to a close and the championship trophy was only 3 games and 1 set away. Everything she had dreamed for was so close, yet so far. The extremely sunny sky glared into her eyes, making it impossible to think. But she couldn’t lose hope now, if she won this match, she would be crowned the Girls 14s Nationals Champion for Tennis. All she had to do was clutch this game. Just a few more points…
At age 7, I met this man, Dr. Robert Walter Johnson Jr., who started teaching me how to play tennis. He worked hard, and he got me to excel (Arthur Biography ¶5). By age 16, I appeared at the U.S. National Championships. Then eventually, I won a tennis scholarship to UCLA (Ashe Britannica ¶2) and won the NCAA doubles and singles title (Arthur Notable ¶1). In time I also got to play on a winning U.S. Davis Cup team (Evert ¶1), be the first African-American to win both the U.S. Open and Wimbledon, and be the first African-American to be ranked Number one in the world (Arthur Biography ¶1-2).
As far as most people are concerned, every school tennis court is pretty much the same. The only prominent difference is the surface, whether it is a hard court, clay, or even grass. While I was a member of the Brewer High School Tennis team, I can recall vivid details of the time I spent participating in inter-school scrimmages and district tournaments as well as the other teammates involved. The tennis court I played on was surrounded by a steel, vinyl coated chain-link fence with aged and weathered benches located in the outer boundaries of the court. In addition, the surface of the court was coated with a green, acrylic paint with white boundary lines painted where necessary. There was one practice session where I accepted a challenge to

Background Info: I was born on December 21st, 1954, in Florida. I had four siblings, three brothers and one sister. At age five, my father drilled me into practicing tennis day and night. In 1969, I became the world's number one under-14 girls tennis player. When I was 15, I defeated the reigning U.S. Open Champion, Margaret Court in North Carolina. I became a professional tennis player along with my sister, Jeanne Evert.
Infinite Jest page 100-200 starts out with Hal Incandenza and his friends in the locker room at the tennis academy. They talk about miscellaneous topics, but most is just usual stuff that teenage boys talk about. Although, one theme that I find in their conversations is unhappiness. Most of the boys seem exhausted, worn out, and just sick of being there. They go to the cartridge viewer room and start to question why they are even there, because the players on the viewers do not look too happy either. I think that this depression has a lot to do with why Hal likes to get high, even though he says he is “addicted to the secrecy of it,” and while that may be true, I feel like subconsciously he knows that it is because he is unhappy at the
I was at my house sitting on the soft couch that I was sinking in like quicksand. I had my tennis racket in one hand, a fuzzy neon green tennis ball in the other. My house was always empty because it was just my mom, my dad, and me. Now, I have a crazy little brother and he is very messy. I was watching a little kid movie with my baby brother and the DVD froze. I figured that it was time to practice for the tennis tryouts. The tryouts are for a camp that took girls to learn more about tennis and compete with other teams. My mom went to that same camp and I wanted to follow in her footsteps. The camp that is ran by an elementary school and it was to help little kids get into sports like tennis. But, lately my mom is acting like I was
Tennis has always played a significant role in my life as well as my commitment to my community, academics and as a part of my future goals. Ever since the age of six, I have absolutely adored the game of tennis. I honestly cannot explain my genuine attraction to the sport, although I know that I would not be the tenacious and goal-oriented young lady I am today if it was not for my participation in the Prince George’s Tennis and Education Foundation. PGTEF is a community tennis association that provides the opportunity for children of all ages to succeed academically and athletically through tennis.
This year the La Conner Braves gained a triple athlete. She was a starter in volleyball, basketball, and track. The coaches all fought for her to join their teams. She just graduated from middle school and is now a record breaking freshmen. She is currently breaking track records. And I believe we will be seeing her name everywhere in the years to come. Her name is Matty Lagerwey.
With great power comes with great responsible. But, is great power too much for one to handle? They’re three forms of power, which are military, propaganda, and silencing the opposition. As seen in Animal Farm written by Orwell, it indicates that power will lead to corruption. Leaders like Napoleon and Kim Jong Un, use their power as leader to gain extreme power over their land using their military forces.
IU is about 193 miles from my house. Which is about 3 hours and 41 minutes away from my house by car. If you walked to IU it would take roughly 63 hours.
