In the past one hundred years, society 's views have altered significantly on racial equality, women’s rights, and feminism. These are due to advances in education, enlightenment, scientific exploration, and constant ideological shifts. When examining the constant shift in thought on the subjects of racial equality, women’s rights, and feminism we must considered if the enlightened thinkers remain philosophical/ scientific in their approaches or do they derail from philosophy/ science into ideology. As one analyzes writers like Frederick Douglas and Marilyn Frye you soon realize that some will sway away from a scientific approach towards an ideology. To understand the difference between a philosophical approach and ideology we must define and further investigate these enlightened writers. One must indicate clearly the specific points where writers turn from a philosophical / scientific orientation to an ideological one, and understand how these derailments into ideological dogmatism may distort the given writer’s view of reality. The philosophy of science is a section of philosophy that rationalizes with the basic foundations, mechanisms, and implications of science. The central questions of this application relates to what qualifies as science, the credibility of scientific theories, and the purposes of science. Philosophy of science explores the relationship between science and truth; this is where we begin to understand the difference of an ideology. An
Chase’s behavior is typical for a student with autism because of his behavioral outburst and his difficulties in social situations. Chase had many idiosyncratic verbal behaviors where he would respond to certain stimuli with the same phrase or word every time it was presented. Certain words also acted as triggers that set him off into a fit of inappropriate behaviors. He associated the stimuli and trigger words with situations that he has either observed or lived through during his life. Chas did not always act appropriately in social situations, when Mr. M was talking about first meeting Chase he mentioned that Chase was unaware of the nervousness Mr. M and the other students felt on the first day.

An informative account about feminist thought, language, ideology, and meaning, Newman shows the readers that power was ultimately held within racialist thinking for feminist in this period. progressive thinkers were indeed racist at the time, because based on their views and their overall understanding they decided on many things concerning citizenship, democracy, and political self-possession based on what they believed.
As we discuss feminism and the equality of the sexes words like oppression, privilege and exploitation are bound to come up. While these words have been defined by the likes of generally accepted dictionaries like Webster and Macmillan the philosophers who write on these topics also define these terms on their own. This is not to say that their definitions will be readily adapted but they do this to better convey the points they wish to make. In this paper we will discuss the thoughts, words, and definitions of three feminist philosophers who have some commonalities and one who stands out quite a bit. These philosophers are Betty Friedan, Marilyn Frye, and Bell Hooks.
Before this class, I was aware of feminism but also uncertain on the meaning. I knew gender inequality existed throughout history and currently. Growing up in the rural Midwest, feminism was not perceived as a positive movement. Little was taught or said about feminism in any primary education. We learned about women’s suffrage and that was it. After, taking this class, I understand that feminism is so much more than woman’s suffrage in the early 1900s.
During present times, society has been created for the majority group. Society has been used in order to use forms of sexual norms and use of gender to shape our lives. Ultimately, ones identity becomes most important and directly correlates with the struggles and limitations they will encompass in life. Therefore, forcing people to choose between which identities will be less problematic. The dominant majority in society uses power and politics to run the lives of the less powerful. Even though all women are oppressed for their gender, some have more of a plight. White women have been known to use their power dynamics to oppress those of racial minorities, even when oppressed they. Women of color have been oppressed on all fronts in life. One can't fight fire with fire, but fight fire with water, fight racism with solidarity. According to Nadine Naber, “There are basics that many Western Feminist do not even address. So, I do get frustrated sometimes by some feminist who try to impose their agendas on others or try to dictate to other women what they should be concerned with (page 164).” In order to understand feminism for women of color, especially Arab and Arab American women, one must understand the class and race struggles. As the bottom of the ladder, the women of color feminist movement have suffered. Nevertheless, the women being silent from the movement. Therefore, we must reflect and understand the need for unity that will overcome the grip that is suffocating us.
“...laws to keep us suppressed in a wrongful manner and without taking us into confidence…” When those with power should take us into confidence but rather keep those who are different, muted with laws. It’s important that those who see are being muted, or those who see, should take a stand. People are discriminated because of their gender, race, or religion. Fighting for rights, a voice this country is the land of the free. Then why make laws to suppress us?
Have we really came far in the fight for racial and gender equality in America? We have made constant strides towards equality, but there is still a substantial amount of work to be done. The road ahead will be long and difficult, but for our society to become better we must learn how to be equal. According to Oxforddictionaries.com to be equal is “(of people) having the same status, rights, or opportunities”. The controversy within the topic of race and gender causes hatred towards individuals, nevertheless open dialogue and understanding will lead us to a better future.
Dating back to the 1800’s, racism and gender inequality have played a prominent role in America. Ranging from slavery to the Jim Crow laws to the war on drugs, racial inequality is present in our everyday lives. Likewise, gender inequality is also as prominent as there are many inherent barriers for women in the workplace such as sexual harassment, inability to ascend into high ranking jobs and stereotypes involving gender roles. Even with the implementation of anti-discrimination laws, racial and gender inequality would still be present in our society because many disparities between race and gender are not caused by explicit discrimination but rather implicit discrimination. Anti-discrimination laws promote equality in theory, but not so much in practice as legal reasoning isn’t exempt from ethical or political beliefs.
I do not identify as a male or female. I simply am me, and I live in a small, conserved town where if you do not fit in, you will get made fun of. I have two choices in my position; fight or fight. I have chosen to fight, and I will not give up, my life must mean more than running away and even if I run, I’m running for what I believe in. I will not give up the fight, and since I have decided fight, my weapon can be as simple as using my talent: art. I make art about LGBT rights, people of color, women's rights. Whatever it is I will stand by you and I am here to fight for you, and I will not put my paintbrush
Yes, all lives matter, however, a pattern of black men and women have been murdered by police brutality; therefore, we need to concentrate on preserving black lives at this moment. At this very moment, in the United States, there have been destructive riots and peaceful protest from all races but mostly African Americans because we continue to witness black men and women die from police brutality without justice being served. A British based newspaper called The Guardian started a project known as “The Counted”. The project’s purpose is to count the number of people killed by police and other law enforcement agencies throughout 2015. The Counted only focuses on the amount of people killed by law enforcements. Based on the statics of the project thus far, it exhibits that officers kill five black people per every million black residents of the United States. In comparison, about two per million people for both white and Hispanic victims are killed by the police. The results of “The Counted” also confirm that five hundred and forty seven people were killed in total by the police in 2015. Out of this immensely large number, 47.9% of those killed were white, 28.3% were black and 15.5% were Hispanic/Latino. In addition, out of those five hundred and forty seven people that were killed, one hundred and sixteen of them were unarmed. The numbers shows that 31.6% of blacks killed were unarmed however; the numbers were not the same pertaining to the whites that were killed. The
The purpose of this article according too, Jenaifer M. Denbow, is that woman of color or other ethnicity is a threat to the nation and its value when she is pregnant. She goes on to describe that black women generally viewed abortion as a blessing in disguise but black men, viewed it as the black genocide. Minorities in the Deep South, Black women especially were encouraged to be breeding machines for their slave masters and with all that they couldn’t take roles as real mothers. Which brings to attention of, PRENDA, which means prenatal nondiscrimination act of 2016, it is a bill that would subject medical professionals to up to five years imprisonment for performing an abortion on a woman who wants to abort the fetus because of its race or sex. Supporters of race-selective abortion bans believe that it is the racist views of abortion providers that cause a disproportionate number of abortions among minority communities.
My objective with this essay is to persuade you against the direct pursuit of gender and racial equality. To achieve gender and racial equality, you must first establish individual freedom for everyone. You are free to exercise religion, free from the prohibition on speech, and press, no matter what your economic, or social background is. Individual freedom for everyone will help us better achieve gender, and racial equality.
In today 's world discrimination is a racial inequality when it come to different races in the United states. Discrimination has been around for years and have created a social inequality , economic crises and have lowered individuals into a group known as the “ racial minorities “.Racial minorities can be classified as older people , women , immigrants and young men and women. Women from the early 1600’s to today 's women have been discriminated against for years. Women have never had the same respect as men so, they had to earn respect by stepping up for their rights. Women have made it clear in modern society, that we have the ability to perform equal skills and become success in virtually every endeavor engaged in by men including, employment, athletes, academics and politics.Yet we have discrimination on the basis of racial inequality which has a long history in United States
Should marijuana be legalized? The answer would vary widely depending on the circumstances and who you ask. Marijuana use is prohibited in the state of North Carolina, and is currently only legal in four states and the District of Columbia (State Marijuana Laws Map). It is hard to believe that the same government that banned the drug in the 1930’s actually encouraged the growth of the plant in the 1600’s (Guither). The antagonist against legalization claim that it is highly addicted and will lead to other drug use. Another claim is that it makes an individual violent, although there is not much data to support the allegation. I use to agree with the government and others stance on the subject matter, but I now feel that there is not much difference between Alcohol and Marijuana. As with any substance, whether it is alcohol, drugs, cigarettes or food there is a chance for addiction to occur. However, it should be an individual’s free will to make their own personal decisions.
