Dear Members of the James H. Quillen College of Medicine Office of MD Admissions,

I would like to extend both my deepest gratitude for Quillen’s allowing me the opportunity to learn about its medical program in a personal setting with the very amicable and knowledgeable John Riley Wilkinson as well as my humble appreciation towards being considered for a place in the Quillen College of Medicine.

Not only was I impressed with the institution’s academic achievements with respect to its students’ ability to match with the residency programs of their choice, but also with the degree to which it demonstrates its dedication to underserved rural areas. Speaking specifically to the program’s seemingly thematic focus on primary care in Tennessee and to the school's support for the Global Health interest group, Quillen harbors a moral emphasis for serving humanity, particularly those among us who lack the access to basic human resources. I particularly enjoyed my conversations with Dr. Harris and Dr. Boyd. Not only were they a pleasure to speak with, but the conversations they stimulated prompted me with questions that probed not simply my personal qualities, but my view of social inequities with respect to health care access—a topic of continuing importance not just in American politics, but in American lives.
