Research is critical to the advancement of our current knowledge and plays a significant factor in addressing challenges we currently face (Hagan, 2010). Through research, new methods of solving problems, as well as gaps which exist in current practice are identified and new methods of resolving them identified. Research also helps policymakers within the system of law enforcement to recognize gaps which may exist in the enforcement of law and come up with solutions to such. For research to be undertaken, a clear research problem needs to be identified. According to Hagan (2010), a research problem is an expression or detail of a clear statement touching on the area the research is concerned about, a specific condition which needs to be improved, …show more content…
A research hypothesis states an expected relationship between variables in positive terms (Hagan, 2010). According to the study, "females may be more likely than males to identify social and interpersonal factors as causes of youth violence." The study also suggests that males may be more likely than females to identify causes of youth violence related to factors that help them avoid being victimized. According to Vogt, et al. (2012), dependent (outcome) variables are the variables the researcher tries to predict while independent variables are variable as causes, determines, or precedes in time the dependent variable. The independent variables in this study were sex of the participant, individual, peer, family, and societal factors of youth violence. The dependent variables for this study were the various subgroups of the factors of crime which included sports rivalries, violence on media, and gang membership among others. Operationalization is a process of defining the measurement of a phenomenon that is not directly measurable, though its existence is indicated by other phenomena (Vogt, 2012). The qualitative analysis, in this case, was first done by developing a coding outline based on the individual, peer, family, and societal causes of youth violence. Different subgroups were later developed from these causes of youth violence based on what had been written by the students. The coders first broke each essay into quotes by dividing the text into distinct fragments that represented a coherent idea. Each data chunk was coded and placed into one or more subcategories, as
Nurses are responsible in providing holistic, quality care to their clients. In order to effectively provide such care Boswell and Cannon (2009, p. 2 & 7) states that nurses must base their provision of care on the most current, up-to-date health information available and sound nursing knowledge. This is where evidence-based practice (EBP) comes in. Polit and Beck (2010, p. 4) defined EBP as "the use of the best clinical evidence in making patient care desicions". This usually comes from research conducted by nurses and other healthcare professionals. Thus it is pertinent that research reports are critically analyzed.
In criminal justice research is the basis for maintaining an effective system. It helps to discern what methods of correction or deterrence are most impactful, what mannerisms, behaviors, and events drive criminality, and what crimes are most prominent in our society among a slew of other things (Maxfield, Babbie, 2015). Research is detrimental to the propulsion of our society as a whole, and within our criminal justice system, it can be the difference between the procurement of a functioning society and anomie.
To answer Research Question 2, the researcher analyzed the responses of childcare staff on the SIS. Wage and program quality data were collected from the Supplemental Information sheet (SIS) created by the researcher (see Appendix B). Two levels of quality were: Level 1 corresponded to state licensing such as acquiring a Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) license; Level 2 corresponded to accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
In this assignment, various research with regards to different agendas will be discussed and broken down into the approaches that were conducted and the results of these researches. The first study that will be analyzed will be; Factors Involved in Recovery from Schizophrenia: A Qualitative study of Thai Mental Health Nurses. The authors for this research study were; Kaewprom, Chettha; Curtis, Janette; Deane, Frank P. The main point of this study was to investigate international methods, such as those conducted in Thailand and compare and contrast them with American psychiatric approaches in order to improve the
Case study was research strategy adopted for this study. It is one of the types of qualitative research study (Creswell, 1998). According to Rubin and Babbie (2013) which view case study as a particular examination of phenomenon. In this study case study explore the influence e-resources has on the professional development and classroom practices of beginner teachers and providing a detailed information through multiple source of data collection methods such as semi-structured interview, observation, data analysis and research journal.However,Creswell,2007 highlighted that case study is a qualitative approach that explore bounded system of phenomenon over time. More so, Yin (2009) validates that case study is an empirical
A qualitative study delves into a social or human problem in hopes to formulate a theory about that phenomenon. Paterson et al. (2005) performed a qualitative study that formulated a theory on how male nursing students learn to care. The researchers discovered how and what aspects perpetuated males to learn to care for patients empathetically while in nursing school. This paper will critique the above study noted and provide rationales.
The researchers used convenience sampling by recruiting women from a metropolitan breast center in the Midwest US, newly diagnosed with stage 0-II breast cancer, not yet treated.
By constructing theories or representations we can increase our understanding of criminal conduct. Through improving our understanding we can create effective, and operational strategies to handle crime issues. We must have a sufficient amount of accurate and documented research, and or experiments to prove the validity of our research. Research is attaining the information and data needed to generate a theory. We gather research by creating specific controlled experiments to reach a conclusion that will satisfy, or otherwise attest our theories.
The article I chose to discuss is: Davis, H. A., & Bowman, S. L. (2015). Examining experiences of weight-related oppression in a bariatric sample: A qualitative exploration.
The title of this research study is: The internet and student research: teaching critical evaluation skills. I believe that this title is suitable for the research study because it is an overview of the information that relates the point of the study itself which indicates a connection between students and their use of the internet when it comes to utilizing the internet as a research tool. The study reflects the central phenomenon by exploring
This article describes about qualitative study. Whereby, the authors collected data using individual interview methods which were open ended questions and semi structured interviews to explore each patient’s physical and emotional responds of fasting during hospitalization. Interviews tape recorded. Besides that, basic demographic and past history of fasting data been collected from medical record. This interview was carried out at patient’s bedside to maintain the private and confidentiality of each patient.

Qualitative and quantitative research assume an instrumental part in item advancement. Information acquired from the quantitative research incorporate client inclinations, socioeconomics, and advertise measure offers imperative data which is utilized for business basic leadership. Qualitative research gives information which is utilized to the plan of an item, and client prerequisites. Both of the methodologies have qualities and shortcomings which ought to be tended to when doing an exploration procedure. There are advantages which are collected from consolidating the two techniques. Quantitative investigation is communicated in numbers. Information in quantitative research is in numeric frame, so measurable tests are pertinent. The depiction of measurements which can be utilized incorporates standard deviation, mean, and middle. Measurable investigation empowers the specialists to infer huge certainties. In this view, the paper will talk about Qualitative and quantitative research concentrating on their focal points and inconveniences.
In the play, Macbeth, By William Shakespeare Macbeth responds to seeing his bloody hands with pathos whereas Lady Macbeth responds to seeing her bloody hands with logos. In consequence, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have opposite reactions to seeing blood on their hands. The blood covering the Macbeth’s hands symbolizes the guilt they carry with them from murdering King Duncan. When looking at the bloody hands, realizing what they mean, and cleaning their hands Macbeth is quite incoherent and Lady Macbeth is sensible. Moreover, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth react to their bloody hands in antagonistic ways.
This personal case study will be giving a brief summary on the key aspects of research that I believe will have the greatest influence on my future career as a Law Enforcement Officer, wishing to study the minds of juveniles and how to reduce the recidivism rate before they become an adult. The key components that I learned about research which I will be discussing are, formulating a research question, generating hypothesis, and threats to internal validity.
