Health Profile 12: Prevention
Awareness of what health threats I might be susceptible to, and information I learned in this course about health behavior change has led me to take primary and secondary prevention actions (Straub, 2014, pp. 204). Knowing that I have a predisposition to breast cancer, ovarian cancer, hypertension, and heart problems has motivated me to exercise and improve my physical fitness, and visit the doctor more regularly to stay as healthy as possible and keep myself from getting sick. I don’t do drugs or drink alcohol because such behaviors can cause short-term and especially long-term health consequences. These are examples of primary prevention. At a recent visit to the doctor, I was informed that I have high cholesterol,

Obesity is within the top five health problems in developed nations, and within the top ten health problems worldwide (Straub, 2014, pp. 272); there are biological, psychological, environmental, and social factors of obesity that society needs to be made more aware of. Society also needs to be aware of how obesity can be combatted. People need to take any prevalence and history of obesity in their family more seriously, and they need to adopt better eating and dietary habits. Obesity is more likely if friends and family are obese (Straub, 2014, pp. 292), so if more people took the initiative to take better care of themselves and improve their health, they could influence any friends in need to do the same. Regarding mental health, after reading George Albee’s article, I think mental health issues are misunderstood by society. It was stated that some people consider mental health disorders to be solely biological in nature (Albee, 1998); environmental and social factors have been neglected and society needs to be made more aware of them. As Albee (1998) states, social change efforts are necessary for prevention of mental disorders to be successful. There is an unfair stigma placed on those with mental disorders, and I think people should learn to be more understanding and more helpful; collectively, society needs to be more supportive of sufferers of mental disorders when they make efforts to receive any possible
Part I: Suppose a researcher wants to conduct a study to find out how much adolescents know about the drug, Ecstasy. Would such a study be constrained by legal and/or ethical considerations? If so, what would these constraints be, and how would they limit the researcher's ability to assess adolescents' knowledge about Ecstasy? What should the researcher do to protect the human subjects?
As per Elaine Anderson's request a few days back, I've removed all RVL03 packs and replaced them with pack RVL3T for all RR Velars from the "Holding Pool" status (Vista Status Code 10) up until the "On Ship" status (Vista Status Code 150). A total of 5,222 packs were modified which would equate to a revenue loss of about $271,335.
DNA microarray is a grid that is composed of spots that contains uniform DNA strands. DNA microarrays are used to identify which genes are expressed on a given cell type.
I met with Dr. Slack Tuesday regarding the SRCL inventory that has to be kept post SRCL. Because materials were purchased with federal funds inventory must be kept up to 5 years. She did tell me that possibly a check would happen within the first 3 years after the end of the grant. At this point I think we have a couple of options and I will defer to your suggestions:
As we continue to move toward the end our quarterly objectives. I wanted to take the time to explain some of our costs. In our particular field of designing and manufacturing products, we are always engaging in ways that we can mitigate loss and improve our processes. Performing such changes will give a stronger presence in the market by allowing us to remain competitive.
CQI is an ever changing process in where the clinical needs of patients were being identified, discussed and corrected. This is where the individualized approach is being made, by the whole team, in accordance to the accepted level of laboratory results paired with what they are lacking or excessive. Doing CQI will enable the entire team to provide the highest care the patient needs. This will reduce other complications inside the treatment area which may affect the care being provided to the other patients. CQI develops evidence-based practice guidelines to improve care of ESRD subjects. These guidelines are put into practice through professional education programs. It must be patient centered to improve quality and cost outcomes of care.

This chapter presents the research findings used to address the research questions presented in Chapter One. To that end, demographic is presented for each of the eighteen school districts studied in rural Kentucky. In addition, statistical analyses is presented as it relates to student success in each of the eighteen school districts at the third grade, the sixth grade, and the eleventh grade levels in the content area of reading. The data examined is from the 2015-2016 school year testing cycle as required by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The statistical analyses focuses on the relationship between students’ success, based on the results of the Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress data, and superintendent tenure in each of the districts.
I will discuss with the parents that assessing the biological age and training age will reduce the risk of injury because the maturity assessment helps to determine the fitness level of their children. Also, a complete health assessment will determine their weakness and strengths, as well as contraindications to exercise. The resistance training program will be based on the children’s maturity level, training age, physical abilities and specific goals. I will gradually increase the volume, intensity and rate of progression to reduce the risk of injury and overtraining. I will incorporate low- impact exercises, as their bones, ligaments, and tendons are not fully developed. Before each training session, they will start with a warm-up and end
Sandrae, your discussion board post covered all of the questions thoroughly and accurately. You provided a lot of detailed and well organized information, excellent job. The chart you provided was exceptional and the chart clearly highlights the differences between the structure, tasks, culture, and strategy of the learning organization and performance organization. Vertical and horizontal structures are very different. The horizontal structure eliminates the old school departmental boundaries of the vertical structure and the horizontal structure allows organizations to improve processes (Daft, 2013).
Additionally, supporting children’s holistic health and well-being will not only enhance their growth and development, but also increase their self-esteem and promotes motivation for example, ‘willingness’ to explore with peers, which will contribute to positive enforcement as they grow and develop. They will also feel value by others and will feel confident to take risks and challenges and to be able to problem solve effectively without fear or judgement .
In the event a physician is prescribing a medication, he must prescribe in accordance with the size and weight of the patient. For example if the patient is a child the physician must facilitate the aspects of good practices as outlined in the English National Service (NSF) for Children, Young People, and Maternity Services (Caldwell, 2013).
The article, Keep Privacy in Health Records, was written by the Monitor's Editorial Board on February 2, 2009. It condemns some of the provisions of a House Bill that was passed by the ACLU and other privacy groups. According to this bill, data encryption would ensure that authorized persons are barred from accessing patient’s health records in the institution. Audit trails are also crucial in determining and tracking who accessed the records, at what time and what type of information did he/she get. Lastly, the patients should be allowed to see their records to improve their notification and strengthen enforcement in health institutions. However, despite these initiatives to improve accountability and confidentiality of patient’s records in most institutions, the board believes that the bill has not solved some of the privacy issues as far as patient health records are concerned.
Casey Toner from AL.COM writes, Sexually transmitted disease (STD) cases for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis in Alabama are nearly double the national average (2014). STDs cost the United States an estimated 15.6 billion dollars a year and is one of the most commonly reported diseases. Adolescents, persons of color, and MSM (Males having sex with males) are at the greatest risk for acquiring STDs. The CDC reports that half of all reported STDs are acquired by adolescents between the ages of 15 and 24.
The people of the United States have struggled nationwide with obesity, and currently lead the world in this epidemic. Not only is obesity a constant burden to the health of the person that is affected, but the people that are surrounded by the unhealthy lifestyles are at greater risk of developing the same bad habits. As an entirety we need to stop being ignorant to the fact that being overweight is alright. We must create more opportunities along with incentives for the citizens of our country to help themselves achieve a better state of physical health, which in turn also benefits their mental health.
