Qin Shi Huang's The Great Wall Of China

The Great Wall of China was originally built during the Qin and Han Dynasties to protect China from the Xiongnu. It took the people of ancient China nearly 2,000 years to build and spans nearly 6,000 miles. However, building the wall was extremely costly in terms of men and supplies. Despite the cost of the wall, it proved to be immensely beneficial to the Chinese people. This is a result of the wall providing protection for merchants, the people within the wall and preventing the Xiongnu from invading.

How many people do you know who would gladly sacrifice their life to protect a dirt wall? Probably no one. The Great Wall of China was built by the Qin (221-206 BCE) and the Han (206 BCE-220 CE) to keep out the Xiongnu, their rivals in the north. It is estimated that the Qin built approximately 1,500 - 2,500 miles of the wall and the Han built 4,000 miles of it.  There is no query that building the wall provided people with jobs, but did the benefits truly outweigh these human costs? Of course not! The price was too costly to pay. The Great Wall wasn’t worth all the struggle. There were three main costs paid by the people of China: forced labor, death from starvation/hunger, and the loss of valuable resources.

The Great Wall was built by the Han and the Qin. The reason why the Han and Qin built the wall was to increase security, impress visitors, and enhance the glory of China, also to keep out the mongols. The benefits of building the Great Wall did outweigh the cost. According to Document A, the benefits of building a wall did outweigh the cost, due to the Great Wall was keeping the Xiongnu out from invasion and other enemies at night. The cost of The Great Wall was no fewer than one thousand households were designed to hold. Due to Document A, the benefits outweighed the cost because the Wall helped keep the mongols from getting over the wall and attacking. This indicates that The Great Wall became successful from getting attacked. As stated in

The Great Wall of China stretches over 13,000 miles and is an iconic symbol of China, which makes it quite an important wonder of the world today. The wall was first started around 200 BCE by a local ruler who later got the name of Emperor Qin. He ruled the Qin empire, which lasted for around 15 years, until the Han dynasty took over for the next 400 years. The wall started being built because of the Qin and Han dynasties' concern for border security. China was and still is bordered by Mongolia, which at the time consisted of the Xiongnu Mongols, who were especially bothersome.

This shows that the benefits did not outweigh the costs because The Han still had tribute to pay to the Xiongnu Mongols and The Han dynasty still had to build and protect The Wall from the Mongols. In Document C, the text indicated that The Qin and The Han dynasties were peasants, and worked on The Great Wall while they got feed a little bit of food and suffered. The Qin and The Han were not treated well

The Great Wall has helped China in more ways than you think. The Great Wall had numerous costs. Multitudinous people died during the construction on the Great Wall. However, it had countless and remarkably convenient benefits. The benefits did outweigh the costs because it improved trade, provided security, and glorified China’s glory.

Picture having to work on a wall while it was raining or while it snowed, that is what the slaves and armies had to do while building the Great Wall of China. Was it really all worth the cost was it worth many men dying each day and being buried under the wall? It was not only bricks being used to make the wall but it was also the flesh and blood of these men that was being used. They were already slaves and did not deserve to die because they were doing something because they thought the Mongols would attack. Next time you think it would be amazing to be walking on the Great Wall of China also think of how many people died out there in the cold and the funny days when they should have been enjoying.

When many think of the country China, the first thing that comes to mind for many is the Great Wall of China. Over the time period of the Qin and Han dynasty, the wall was began being built to protect the people from Xiongnu who lived on the Northern China border. This group of people was a major threat to the Chinese people. To fix this problem the wall seemed like the only probably choice and the enormous project of building the wall began. Though a great deal went into building the Great Wall of Ancient China, the benefits of the wall outweighed the costs.

Also, millions of soldiers and workers died from coldness, and hunger. This means that more lives were taken than actually saved, which isn't fair. It isn't fair because everyone was in the army risking their lives to build the wall for it to not be worth it. The wall wasn't worth it because according to Document B, Han still had to pay

Being one of China’s well known monuments, the Great Wall of China is the world’s longest deffence system. During the Han and Qin Dynasties, the Great Wall of China was built to prevent invasions from the Xiongnu. Teh Great Wall did prevent invasions, but the walls construction came with more unfortunate costs than benefits. The costs of the Great Wall of China outway the benefits because there was too much involuntary labor, numerous people died from building the wall, and there were very harsh conditions to be aguard on the wall. To start, there was too much incolentary labor to build the Great Wall of China.

Another reason why The Great Wall was one of the best creations is because, tourism and money today. China is one of the top 5 most visited places by tourists.

One way the Great Wall helped China of by protecting it. According to the background essay, the Great Wall’s purpose was to shield China from Mongol invaders. In addition to this, the Great Wall of China protected much of the Silk Road, as stated in the diagram in Document A. With the Great Wall in place, citizens were safe from invasions.
