“Put your clothes to work” is a project where I collected bags of old clothes and donated them to the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army was started by William Booth and his wife. They let in alcoholics, morphine addicts, and other "undesirables" unwelcome in polite Christian society. Then, the Booths started their own Christian church. They believed in not drinking, smoking, or taking drugs of any kind. The soldiers wear a uniform tailored to the state of they work. As the Salvation grew, they gained some unwanted attention by the Skelton Army. They threw bones, rats, and tar to physically assault the members of the Army. Much of this hate was filled by the pub owners because of the Army’s no alcohol mentality. So, the reason I chose this
Influencing others, a great thing to do especially if it’s someone that looks up to you or that you care about. Making a change in people’s lives is a great thing to do. I have been called a “leader” by one of the kids at the Salvation Army. I have positively influenced someone by giving a speech on what to do and how to solve problems.

Imagine walking by your favorite department store, you hear the familiar sound of a bell ringing. With the sound becoming louder, you can now see the famous red bucket and someone there to greet you with an enormous smile and a holiday cheer. The people of the Salvation Army aren’t there just around the holidays; they are actively collecting all year round. One of the oldest and most recognized charities also has the highest efficiencies. They reach millions of people all over the world. A monumental organization is characterized by providing for those in need, motivation to identify and eliminate the cause of that need and to bring the community closer.
I was 10 years old when I began going to a homeless ministry named Solomon’s Porch and I hated it with every inch of my being. Every Saturday morning my father would wake me up at 7am to take me to downtown Dallas, and I would nag my heart out- begging him to let me stay home to watch Saturday morning cartoons. But he would not relent. Solomon’s porch would take place in the worst part of Dallas, a place where graffiti, trash, and homeless people were everywhere. But in the mist of all the rundown buildings there was a little church that let the ministry come and fed the homeless breakfast and lunch. After going for than a year my dad started forced me out of the church, where I would watch Disney movies to actually helping in the breakfast
The Salvation Army is most commonly known for its red kettle and bell ringer during the holiday season. The Salvation Army date back to 1852, when a couple, William and Catherine Booth started with an ideal about helping the London poor. They felt that there was a growing number of poor being over looked and the poor were growing away from the Christian roots they were raised. In this paper I want to introduce the social and economics despair London went through and how the Salvation Army played a major role in helping the poor in social turmoil.
The Salvation Army Liberty Croutch English II Ms. Charles October 18, 2017 Victorian England proved a time of division and hardship for the country. Destruction and damage dominated throughout the land. Through this division however, some influential people, businesses, and many more things arose. One of these significant things which arose from the dust, was the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army proves the most significant international charitable organization that has been created, due to it’s positive affects on not only Victorian England, but the world and it’s history.
On Monday, October 17th I volunteered to help the American Red Cross and other organizations at Purnell Swett High School. I was directed to a woman named Priscilla who oversaw a portion of the outdoor area. Our group was quite diverse. It consisted of young high school and college students, middle-aged parents, some senior citizens, and even a girl who appeared to be no more than nine years old. Everyone was in good spirits despite the recent tragedy. Our task seemed to be simple enough, however, we would soon discover it was going to take more planning. We were assigned to the rear of the school where we would sort through various bags and boxes of donations. Priscilla directed some of us to carry items to different rooms based on their size and whether the clothes were designed more males or females, children or adults. As organized piles began to form, these volunteers posted signs indicating the sizes in those piles. Priscilla asked a different group to take the flat boxes and fold and tape them to allow packing of the clothes. Another set of people were instructed to write the names of the recipients on the boxes. The final group, which later consisted of those who completed their share of the work already, was assigned to fill the boxes with appropriate items and seal them for delivery.
This involves volunteering were people across the nation donate food and give money to feed the poor. It talks about The Salvation Army in Oxford, West end of London and a little about volunteers (Fletcher 34). Then it goes on to say little things about thirty homeless people and how booth described them as “The Least, The Last and The lost”. It takes about how a former soldier came along to the Salvation Army and had PTSD. Volunteers at the Salvation Army handed the homeless blankets, Clothing and shoes (Fletcher 34). They plans to give food to 1,500 communities on the table across the United States (Bluey 16). The Salvation Army is a place that shows the homeless love and compassion (Fletcher 34).The people called Booth wife the “Mother of the Army”. Founder of the Salvation Army was William Booth (Kellner 71). Booth was a person who wanted more attraction to their attention (Fletcher 34). The way he done this to get more attention was he had songs of music-halls and flip fop the words. By him honoring the slums he brought 10,000 full-time officers to his side (Fletcher 36). During 1912, that was the year Booth had passed away at the aged of eighty-three. Today the Salvation Army Charitable Services has been ruined by the Professional Employees and not by soldiers anymore (Fletcher 37). According to Major Muriel McClena he said “stretching out a hand to mankind you are showing them love and
Why do people help others? This question answers itself to make people feel better and to help others. Today you will learn about salvation army's history, spread of organization, and the ways it helps people.
How often do we pass by someone on the side of the highway holding a sign asking for money so they can buy themselves something to eat? We see representatives from The Salvation Army at our local grocery store with bins collecting money for their organization, but instead of donating money we keep walking as if they’re invisible. Often times we talk about change within our community, but we don’t put those words into action. Fostering change within the community is necessary because without it how else do we expect to see a difference within our area. Promoting change is also necessary because you always want to see positive things happening in your community. When positive changes are happening in your community, it can attract people and
Lesley Boone once said, “We are a country that prides itself on power and wealth, yet there are millions of children who go hungry every day.” When people think of world issues, many do not consider America’s stand point on the ordeal. They are unable to fully comprehend the growing lack of jobs, poverty, hunger, poor health care, and meager education that takes place across the nation. American charity foundations are often eager to jump to the rescue of other countries, but what about the detrimental issues that occur and worsen here every day? In the past, the majority of organizations are predominantly directed at foreign countries; helping places such as Ethiopia, India, Somalia, etc. While here, poverty and debt are increasing by surmountable amounts. Charities for other regions are beneficial, but shouldn’t people here be first priority? The majority of problems have the potential to be easily fixed. What happens when we have nothing left to give? If the United States does not soon take this into consideration, it could be hazardous and irreversible to the American society. When considering where America’s charitable hands should go, many things need to be taken into consideration such as; charities outside of the U.S., should America put more effort into problems here, the increasing debt and poverty levels, and how benefits of focusing more here. The first point of this essay will discuss problems within the
The Salvation Army hires employees who accept the organization’s core values, supports the mission, and maintains the organization’s image. As a result, “an organizational climate is created where employees share perceptions about the organization and work environment” (Robbins & Judge, 2015, p. 251). The organization relies mainly on volunteers, so leaders must communicate actively with the community to gain support, as there are few paid positions. The majority of volunteers come from the community, religious organizations, or college students who are interning within the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army is an organization that help’s the poor, disabled and homeless. They help feed, clothe, shelter, and also help find jobs for men and women. Many people in the community who drop off their clothing to donation sites probably don’t know where their clothing is going to. Everything that is being donated is helping out everybody in need even across the nation. All the money that has been made goes back into the shelters. Helping out in the community can be a wonderful thing not only is you clearing up space for unwanted things but you're also helping out others. It is amazing what people can do with something. What isn’t your style can be another person’s treasure.
Imagine someone shivering on the street, depressed and cold, because they have nothing to protect him or her. Quote “Is there any other way to be? I mean, this is my body, my soul; I gotta live with it. I plan on taking it for a long ride” – Cecil Castellucci. Giving clothes to the homeless takes little effort but has a big payoff. So if we all gave clothes it would make the world a better place.
How does a person help someone who is mentally and physically under nourished? A person whom has gone through one of the hardest struggles in life and barely passing by? As a person who possibly has never experienced this in the least, start by helping a person who has gone through so much? A person terribly struggling, whether homeless or hungry. Or both. And how do they make it out of such a deep endeavor? These are the questions that can be asked in a number of ways and by a number of people; most likely more than we think. Questions that should not only be answered, but be encouraged to engage with to expand the knowledge of a man 's brain by simply explaining problems that everyone should be aware of.
