In Chapter 2, “Put it Together: Building Collaborative Teams,” the main topic is how teams are expected to produce results. When team members do not work well together the performance is hindered. Collaborative team’s environment is important for the team’s success in order to create a positive collaborative environment. Having a common purpose and goals by working together. Without a common goal, there is no team or ideas. The team discuss what goals are attainable and why the team exists. Each team member must express their commitment and come up with ideas to add to the individualized transition plan. Making sure to clarify the responsibly when action planning and learn what others do on the team. Figuring out ways to help each other
Effective working relationships are the cornerstone for building and maintaining a successful team. Good team communication provides direction, vision and motivation to the members of the team. Team communication can be the sending or receiving of messages to or from management, between team members or from one team to another. Effective team communication increases team members' effectiveness and satisfaction because they are given the appropriate guidelines, tools and direction on how to accomplish tasks. Creating Effective Teams: a Guide for Members and Leaders is a book by Wheelan (2013) designed to do as the title states; guiding members and leaders to create effective teams. Wheelan (2013) begins the book by highlighting the reasons that groups are important. Wheelan (2013) states that throughout history, “Groups have played a major role in both the survival of human beings and the development of human culture” (p. 1). The majority of the book is based on 4 stages that create a group of individuals into an effective team. The first stage is called dependency and inclusion. According to Wheelan (2013), the first stage of the group is
After posting for your group, compare one of your team to another type of team.
To be perfectly honest, I didn’t have a clue as regards “Forbidden Island” and wasn’t too familiar with many board or card games. My initial
As it is being stated earlier that this paper will be discussing about team development and it will then explain the theories of teamwork and team development. Team development is defined as the improvement of the efficacy of working in teams or groups by advancing goal progressions (Eyre, 2015). Bruce Tuckman firstly identified the four stages of team development in the mid 60s (Eyre, 2015). These stages are; Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing. In the 1970s Dr Bruce Tuckman added the fifth stage, which is Adjourning (Businessballs.com, 2015). Dr Bruce also mentioned that this theory is a helpful and beneficial description of team development (Businessballs.com, 2015).
Collaboration is a theme which relies heavily on interdependence within a group. It differs from teamwork in that it everyone’s actions are united in reaching a goal, as opposed to each individual acting separately to achieve a shared goal- often with a leader in charge. Under collaboration, everyone is equal and has the same role in achieving a goal. This means that there are no members that put in all the work or no work at all. Group members have to be flexible in listening to each other, and they have to respect each other and think together in order to act together. A lot of ideas must be shared, as well as power, and work. I think it is extremely important to know your collaborators well in order to trust them-
A team is a group individuals with various skills and assets working together towards a common goal. The goals of the teams come in various aspects and forms that require the skills of all team members. Team building is the process of enabling ones team or group in order to reach their goals. Reaching the goal will consist of the Team’s leader involvement in the few stages of team building. Within the team building stages are sets such as clarifying the goals to the team letting them know what the main priority is. The second stage is the Identification of all of the problems that can push back the team delaying them from reaching the goals. Addressing the problems and enabling the goals to be completed. Bringing the team together is essential when building a team this includes getting along with the team and understanding one another as well as knowing their strengths and weaknesses using certain activities.
The teamwork is necessary for workers to accomplish specific projects. In order to create a good teamwork, both external and internal aspects should be considered. Anat (2012) discloses that team collaboration is challenging with attending to the underperforming workspace. It conducted research in the area of organizational design and change. She points out individual workplace separate people from one another sometimes. This statement showed employees should have unlimited meeting spaces and other collaboration tools. Collaborative work only happens when people share their ideas and thoughts about the project, and takes decisions or solves problems cooperatively. Thus, a good workplace will lead the team to collaborate with each other, in
Team development and group processes interventions aim at improving different aspects of a group performance, such as goal setting, development of interpersonal relations among team members, role clarification and analysis, decision making, problem solving, and communities of practice, among other. One of the most important objective of team building interventions relies on improving interdependency of team members. The underlying premise is that the aggregated value of the team is much greater than any individual. According to Robbins (1994), Team building is applicable where group activities are interdependent. The objective is to improve the coordination efforts of members, which will result in increasing the team’s performance” (p. 275)
Explanation of the role people play in a team and how they can work together to achieve shared aims
The first stage of the team building is the forming stage, this is where the members all become acquainted with one another and the goals and objectives are set. This is where the members will propose ideas that will help the Health Care Inc. become more competitive. The second stage is the storming stage where the team members will have to overcome any diversity or conflicts that will arise so that they can move ahead and continue to brainstorm. The team members need to make amends during this stage in order to move on to the next stage to have a team of unity. By the third stage, group members are occupied in active acknowledgment of all members’ contributions and solving of group issues. Members are willing to
Collaboration is such a crucial competency for achieving high performance in an organization (Kouzes & Posner, 2012). A leader is not able to start a brand new team with working together. It takes a great deal of trust and collaboration in order to get others to work together properly. A leader
Accomplishing tasks through small groups of people who are collectively responsible and whose work is interdependent requires teamwork competency (Hellriegel Jackson, Slocum Amos Klopper, Louw Oosthuizen, 2007, Page 15). A united nation is a winning nation; teamwork is about working together to achieve a certain goal. Communities work together for example to fight the socio-economic problem which is crime, in turn making it a safer environment. In the same sense businesses work as a team to improve efficiency in the working environment. When it comes to designing a team, team-building strategies work best, as the strategy brings employees together creating a close relationship amongst them and making them work as a more united team. Relating teamwork competency to the author, a negative result will be the outcomes, as the author believes that working alone is more effective, but people have different opinions on the subject.
The science of team building is an art. The uncontrollable variables are people. Just putting a group of talented individuals together for the sole purpose of goal achievement can be met with disastrous results. It can leave individuals left feeling unfulfilled and lead to costly mistakes in the long run. While team building can be considered an art, there are some methods and approaches that can assist with successful builds. While no approach is full proof, taking time to acclimate oneself with human
Members of a team can be very competitive and fight for dominance. Members may not necessarily get along in a friendly manner. Therefore, I need to work to improve communication channels and make them cooperate among themselves. Additionally, I need to promote the members to work together as a team. As a team, they need to share information and assist other members if necessary. Finally, I need to set common rules, a shared vision, team values and goals. When the team members know what is expected of them they will form a strong bond to the business and its member’s thus increasing productivity and efficiency.
