A major in biology is only part of my story. The fact that I am pursuing medical school
doesn’t let one see who I am. I will give a closer look at my life and what makes me who I am.
At the current age of twenty-one, I am in my second semester of college. Most assume that I took
a break from school after graduating high school, but that isn’t the case.
In 2005, I lost my seventeen-year-old brother in a fatal car accident. This event brought on large amounts of depression and anxiety which led to me withdrawing from public
school and becoming homeschooled. Once I became old enough to drop out of school I did. I
didn’t have an interest in anything except loving and being loved. All I ever wanted was to
find love and have a family.

Getting
into medical school isn’t a walk in the park. Working hard and creating a competitive resume is
crucial.
I consider books my second passion and my first hobby. I have well over five-hundred
books, and my walls are lined with multiple shelves overfilled with books. I have all genres of
books ranging from classic literature to the young adult; mostly fantasy and science fiction. I also
have an Instagram account which is a social media website dedicated to sharing pictures with
others. I post pictures of myself and family on my Instagram, but I mostly focus on posting book
related photographs. I have over one thousand and six hundred followers, most of which are
other book enthusiasts. I receive two monthly book subscription boxes which include a newly
released young adult book, along with book-related items and signed books. The way a book
allows me to get lost in a fiction world and captivates my full attention is a very satisfying
experience.
Even though reading is like a second nature to me there is still things I need to learn. I
enjoyed the lecture in last week’s English class. Before class that day; I read “The
For as long as I can remember I was identified as a bookworm. I always accepted this title as a compliment no matter how people meant it. As I grew older, took more challenging courses, and participated in extracurriculars, my opportunities to read diminished. However, I never abandoned my passion for novels, bookstores, and libraries. As a freshman in high school, I joined the book club and now lead it with some friends. I strive to inspire others to appreciate the myriad of ways a book can serve us, and why I still love to read about anything and everything.
The books I read are more university textbooks than regular story books. However, there are times I enjoy a good fantasy or mythology novel. Books surrounding myths of different cultures such as Greek Mythology (for example, Percy Jackson and The Olympians) or books involving my hobbies (for example, sewing books/magazines) or sometimes even a few manga. Those books pertained to what I liked more than what I needed to learn. Also, I was very much into folklore stories that surrounded China and Japan. Folktales were stories that connected me with my Chinese background and also showed me cultures that captured my interest. All of these books further developed my character as I began exploring what I liked to learn or cultures of

Reading is a wonderful pastime. It allows me to mentally travel to far away lands in the present, the archaic past, or the advanced technological future. Reading allows me to be present during every struggle or joy the protagonist may face. It is a wonderful way to learn about fascinating cultures without physically traveling to other lands. It is a gateway to long, sleepless nights because I can become fully entranced by a story. Favorite books of mine include Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. Both of these stories wonderfully illustrate internal human conflict as well as love, loyalty, and emotional and physical pain. These are just a few of the joys of
It may be cliché, but books have always held a spot close to my heart. When I was three I had a book called Bitsy Witch that went wherever I did. When I was seven, my mom read a chapter of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone every night. In middle school, I worked my way through the entire children’s section at my local library. In high school, I took every English class offered, and when I entered college I to compromise with my family that I would also pursue a pre-professional program. My time outside of class was spent on my pre-professional degree until, my senior year in college. I took two classes that focused on children’s and young adult texts. Before those classes, I hadn’t realized that specializing in Children’s literature was

I as a reader enjoy reading, however I do not do it as often as I would like. I always have trouble starting books, I would say that the first five to chapters are the hardest to get through. I admire how with reading you are able to make your own depiction of what’s happening, instead of seeing what others envisioned. To me a great book must have twists and turns to keep me interested. I love being able to get to know the characters, feeling as if they are apart of your own life, being able to see them as almost a friend in your own life. Taking their life lessons and putting them to use in your own. I like more romantici books where they have to get over many obstacles to obtain their great love. I also enjoy reading about a character who is able to turn their troubles around and become better than they once were.

In the start I was super attracted to books and loved the feeling of reading because it felt like I was going into a more interesting life instead of a boring realistic life, If I really enjoyed a book I could read it for hours. I got in trouble in class because I read instead of working. But then one day I would never read the same way again.
