As the president of the NRA we understand the purpose of the National Rifles Association is to advocate for gun rights. Firearms are not the immediate cause of mass shotings. The root of the problem, however is if the common person did not have access to firearms the amount of people deceased would decrease. The paln we proposed includes strengthening gun laws such as limiting access to certain firearms. Also having a stronger background screening and application for every gun owner, even if the new owner has a gun is an implication that would benefit the cause of eliminating mass shootings, mainly in the United States.
The NRA is a major proponent of the second amendment. The Constitution’s Second Amendment states that Americans have the
The NRA is a lobbying group that is trying to promote gun safety, organized firearm activities, and most of all protection of the second amendment. Supporters of the NRA are loyal to the cause and rightfully so. The organization promotes family dinners, organizational competitions and updates on their fight to keep our second amendment from being repealed. I think that the NRA is a positive thing, even if the majority of there supporters believe their guns will be confiscated if democrats are elected into office. The NRA does a great job promoting there goals and collecting money from its members. The NRA is funded solely through memberships and donations from it's members. The NRA is helping america control gun violence, and showing the
The National Rifle Association is a very historic and well known organization which was founded in 1871. The NRA is widely known for protecting the second amendment of the constitution which is what gives people the right to keep and bear arms and very strong promoters of proper gun use. Sarah Horwitz, state’s that, “Today it is arguably the most powerful lobbying organization in the nation’s capital and certainly the most feared.”(Achenbach, Joel, Scott Higham, and Sari Horwitz) What makes the National Rifle Association so strong of an interest group is how they do not shy away from controversy on gun control which is also why their number of group members is so large and continues to grow year after year.
For over 50 years the NRA has been the most controversial and well noted example of an adamant, unwavering, organized, voice as it has arguably inflicted more influence in lobbying efforts than any other special interest group represented in the nation’s capital. Originally founded in 1871, the NRA originated just 6 years after the civil war and just 3 years after the 14th amendment. After just enduring the bloodiest battle in our nation’s history The 14th amendment (1868) granted states the right to further extend the protections available for individual possession of arms. A law of this measure did hold rightful ground, given the climate in reconstruction era America. As an individual right to bear arms would naturally be in higher demand following such a conflict. The NRA was founded to protect the granted rights and to represent a portion of individuals who held these rights dearest. As the essay states “The NRA, as always, speaks for all gun-owners, with respect to the Second Amendment” (Alstyne 5). While it is within our constitutional boundaries to have special interests represented, the NRA has long outgrown its original somewhat transparent roots. Like most
The NRA has managed to become a powerful gun lobby and influencer of the gun conversation through their deliberate propaganda that targets and in many ways lies about the 2nd Amendment. In 1977, through a shakeup within the NRA, the organization went from a group of hunters and sportsmen to a strong advocate for the right to bear arms. Catering to strong gun advocates, the NRA was able to become a very powerful and influential organization. By aggressively advocating for gun rights, and preying on Republican congressmen with many pro-gun constituents, they were able to build up a foundation of support, which they have now expanded into one of the most powerful lobbies in Washington. Nowadays, they promote the 2nd Amendment, but only the parts
“Since the start of the year, there have been 105+ mass shootings in the United States” (Arnold). The number of mass shootings this year alone has only grown and has left people wondering what there is to do. A common viewpoint across the country is to have stricter gun control around put into place. Stricter gun control brings the value of safety to mind. If guns that are used to carry out the mass shootings are taken away, then overall people will feel safer due to the assault weaponry being taken away from psychopath’s access to them. Take the Orlando night club shooting in 2016, which was the deadliest shooting in United States history at the time, for example: during the month that the shooting took place, requests for background checks by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) reached a monthly high; However private gun sales and sales made at gun shows do not require background checks, the number of background checks could underestimate the number of guns sold (Stroebe). If every gun sale that was made had a proper background check then the number of guns sold would see a decrease. James Hodgkinson was a 66-year-old with a history of alleged violence against women, he opened fire in Washington at Republican lawmakers; his only reason for opening fire was because he voted for Bernie Sanders and disliked Donald Trump (Daniel Dale Toronto). Decreasing the number of guns sold to people not mentally and/or physically capable of handling them would make the general population safer incase the incapable person had an outbreak at used the gun to harm someone and/or themselves. It would eliminate the people like Hodkinson who are using guns purely for hate crimes, and who have a history of violence.
The NRA is a powerful organization that has a long, illustrious history of advocating gun rights and the second amendment. The nonprofit organization was founded in November of 1871 by William Conant Church and George Wood Wingate, and has educated and informed its members on gun-related legislation and policy since the mid-1930s after the first federal gun-control law was passed. By the mid-1970s, however, the NRA has directly
Mass shootings have become a grim occurrence that seem to happen more frequently, no matter what repercussions they have. From the club shooting in Orlando to the violent attacks on students in schools, these events have unfortunately transpired repeatedly over the recent decades, with no end in sight. However, the recent Stoneman Douglas high school shooting may have begun the movement to change legislation so that these shootings present themselves, if at all, considerably less often. Most will say the government isn’t doing enough, but the likelihood that they will reject funding from the National Rifle Association (NRA) or amend Americans’ right to bear arms is so miniscule it is almost pointless to argue, however there may be a more plausible alternative. Congress and the President have the power to intensify the background checks and exams that citizens must undergo in order to purchase these weapons. More thorough criminal and mental examinations may prevents felons from obtaining these weapons of war, or could lead to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as depression or schizophrenia.
The NRA argues that the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees individuals the right to own and carry guns. They are concerned that federal regulations will continue to increase until owning a handgun will be difficult to achieve, infringing on their Constitutional rights. They also argue that if law-abiding citizens have guns, they are safer from criminals, bringing crime rates down.
Compared to other countries, the U.S.A. accounts for more than 30% of mass shootings worldwide. By itself this statistic would be incredibly alarming, and paired with the fact that the U.S. contains only 5% of the world’s population it is absolutely terrifying (Gallagher 2). Part of the reason that mass attacks are so prevalent may be the readily accessible supply if firearms. This fact brings one to the logical conclusion that gun control is a policy that our representatives in the government need to consider thoroughly. While i do understand that this idea is even harder to accomplish in practice than it is to comprehend in theory, it is a direly needed first step to making our country a safer place to live.
The United States Gun laws need to be actively strengthened to protect and prevent harm against citizens by creating more thorough background checks, mental health checks, and more licenses specifically for different types of assault weapons. Several mass shootings have been caused by legally purchased guns caused by background checks without intensive research. With stricter gun laws harm and massive tragedies would be prevented or have more protection and safety. New laws and mandates would change the environment of gun safety and protection.
There is a huge epidemic that is taking place in the United States and our government has to put a stop to it. This issue is the mass shootings that take place in America. There has been numerous amount of mass shootings in the United States and many of them could have simply been avoided if there were stricter gun laws. This last decade has made Gun Control an unavoidable topic in society for Americas citizens and politicians. Our politicians must take a stand against these senseless crimes and ban these pointless weapons once and for all.
Around the world, guns are used in various things such as hunting, warfare, shooting ranges, and much more. There is one particular action that has increased drastically within the past decades. This is none other than mass shootings in the United States. Since the spark in mass shootings, people have discussed ways to prevent this from happening, but others do not want the laws to change. Although each argument has their benefits and liabilities, America must do something about the deaths and injuries of thousands of people. Changing the laws would have benefits such as decrease in deaths and injuries of others and reduce the societal costs, but argues against the Constitution.
The National Rifle Association is a huge advocate for the second amendment right to bear arms as a United States citizen. There are numerous groups who oppose the NRA and promote stricter rules on gun control, and some more extreme groups want citizens to not be able to own firearms at all. I believe that the NRA and gun control groups could one day reach a compromise, ending the relentless battles that have been going on for decades. The NRA makes money through memberships with their organization which people can sign up for when they purchase a firearm. Although many people think that this is their main source of income, a large part of their money comes from other corporation’s advertisements through the NRA. Many people do not agree with what the NRA promotes, and a big opposition to what the association promotes is President Obama. The President and his organization have been pushing bills to try and tighten up on who can receive a firearm. The NRA believes that tighter gun control laws will only lead to more crime. They promote the idea that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is to give a good guy a gun. “Mass shootings: There were 372 mass shootings in the US in 2015, killing 475 people and wounding 1,870, according to the Mass Shooting Tracker, which catalogues such incidents. A mass shooting is defined as a single shooting incident which kills or injures four
The nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization is under attack, but why? That’s what is going on right now with the NRA and the issues that they are defending. Ever since the NRA was founded, it has been doing things to help out the people of this country and to shape the country itself. There are so many controversies that are going on today in politics that are the center of the NRA’s philosophy. The NRA does a lot for the people of this country by impacting the lives of millions of Americans, through its many organizations. Not to mention, the NRA is a non-profit organization and would not be able to make this impact without the help of others. The NRA’s biggest stance is the Second Amendment. It is their primary focus to do
An ever increasing emphasis on the prevention of mass shootings has presented the option of gun control and bans. Mass shootings have occurred many times throughout history, but have
