Public Argument For College Students

After reflecting upon my 30 minute writing submission, I do not believe I wrote a very convincing or persuasive argument. While reading through my paper, I recognized a few rhetorical appeals, however I do not believe I used them very effectively.

How often do people take their time to turn off their phone, sit down and read through a book? With the technology advantages, people hardly take their precious time to put everything aside, and thoroughly read in serenity because they find it boring and meaningless. Furthermore, social media and web pages can seem more fun and accessible. This is more to the reason why an author should have the ability to convey his idea in a way that persuade his or her audiences. In addition, the author needs to make their information interesting, applicable to the reader, while present their arguments on the subject persuasively and understandably.

It is 2017, and the amount of the student debt in the United States is spiraling out of control. 1.4 trillion dollars, those mountains of money are currently owed by 44 million Americans in the federal student loan debt. Moreover, this type of debt looms large all over the auto debt, even more than all the credit card debt, according to the press release of Consumer Federation of America. That is a number that helps to imagine how huge it is. Consequently, many Americans are heavily in debt in their twenties because they strive to achieve a higher education, which leads to many downside effects on the whole country; however, an effective solution to solve this problem would be for the government to give free college to help people be debt-free.

More than seventy per cent of U.S. high school graduates go on to college. The United States leads the world in college enrollment, which totals 21 million, a number that has risen by fifty percent since the mid-1990’s (Hala, 2016). In College Calculus by John Cassidy the article states that students in the U.S. pay more than fifty thousand dollars a year in tuition and fees (Cassidy, 2015).

Throughout the course, I developed my analytical thinking skill and learned to analyze a text without having a biased view towards the content. I had a negative view towards social media, but through the course and by getting exposed to various articles, my perspective has changed.
