Mental disorders affects 1 out of 5 people each year (Kallivayalil). Psychology has a way of understanding mental disorders and how they function. There are many branches to psychology that leads to many jobs that are beneficial more than most people realize. Majoring in psychology can go a lot farther than just in the medical field. If someone chooses to become a politician they should understand human behavior for the better of their region. Understanding how humans work will provide solutions to improve systems and manage relations with everyone else in the world (Miller). Knowing how people behave and how their brain functions will provide an extra edge when trying to assist them. There are many different forms of psychology which …show more content…
“While cross-cultural psychology and anthropology often overlap, both tends to focus on different aspects of a culture. The areas of interest to psychologists are not addressed by anthropologists who have concerns with kinship, land distribution, and rituals” (Cross-Cultural Psychology). Even though anthropologists has a focus on rituals, psychology can be used to study ritual behaviors and become a benefit with anthropology. Knowing the differences between cultural and individual behaviors is a part of studying psychology which transforms into informative knowledge that is shared with everyone else to also understand the cultures. Not only can psychology benefit in understanding people and their cultures, but also in the workplace and several jobs. Majoring in psychology gives an extra edge at the workplace or getting a job. Having experience with how people think gives the benefit of being around people and getting people-friendly jobs. Working at a prison as a correctional officer includes psychology. These officers work with inmates with their interactions with everyone and the choices that they make (Psychology Careers). If the correctional officer did not have a background in psychology, they could not do their work to the full extention that the inmates need. Social workers are tasked with helping clients adjust and respond to a variety of life pressures including psychological,
This makes a huge point to my argument. Psychologists are people who learn about why human beings think what they think and do what they do. They help to stand up for people who have been put down by society.
Many people like me and you go into psychology because we find dealing with people’s thought patterns interesting, however psychology also deals with a lot of the brain functions and diagnosing mental illnesses,
Psychology is a discipline that involves monitoring mental processes and behaviour scientifically. Psychologists try to delve into the basic functions of a person and animals cerebral activity. This usually involves studying relationships, emotions, personality and many more areas of a person or animals day to day life. Psychology tends to steer towards finding reasons for a person or animals actions in an attempt to resolve them.
Psychologists teach patients new coping strategies during difficult stressful times in their lives. They conduct therapeutic interviews and provide counselling. They offer a confidential, non-judgemental place to talk and learn copying strategies for achieving better mental health.
“Few fields of study offer more career opportunities than does psychology” (Sternburg 3). There are a wide selection of specialties a person could go into with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. In graduate school, which is a must to attend, there is the option to explore the different specialities or to go into the desired specialty without any research of the others. There are also many options within a specific specialty. There is the option to be a teacher, to work for various organizations, be a speaker, to have your own practice, and many others. In the psychology field these options can all be combined. In fact it is expected of psychologists to do more activities involving their specialty than solely sit in an office and listen to patients. There are two specialities that I am interested in however, over the years, these specialties have become very similar. Clinical and counseling psychology have evolved to become one in the same. Someone who specializes in clinical psychology are more

Culture is fundamental to understanding human experience. It makes the world inspiring, entertaining, enables effective communication, and influences most factors of modern life, so it’s no surprise that psychologists are interested in the impact it has. Sociocultural psychology and cross- cultural psychology are two different approaches that explore cultural experience. The two disciplines, though different in their definitions of cultural impact, share many of the same goals and ideas, and can arguably offer great insight to the other approach. The potential for collaboration between the two disciplines to garner a rich insight into personal and social cultural influence means that the two approaches are by no means incompatible, and their compatibility can offer a wealth of positive contribution to psychological research.
Psychology has always had a direct impact on my life for many years for example, I myself have had counselling sessions for anxiety. Experiencing this has given me a desire to work with people in understanding their behaviour and how their minds work to be able to empower individuals to lead better lives. My own personal experience with anxiety has also intrigued me into thinking why I think the way I do and what can be put into action to improve my circumstances.
Psychology can be applied to everyday life in many ways. The three main ways Psychology applies to my life is through motivation and emotion, Stress and health and Psychological therapies. These topics of psychology are the ones that best describe my life. When most people think of psychology they think of therapists and psychological disorders. Psychology is much more than that and applies to everyone’s life in some form.
Psychologists are very important people; they help millions of people with their everyday struggles and problems that they have to deal with. Not only do psychologists help people with problems that they cannot handle on their own, they also are scientists who study human minds and behaviors.
Psychology has many different fields. But overall psychology is just the study of the human mind and its functions. You may be asking yourself, what’s the importance of psychology? Well psychology is extremely important for many reasons, such as diagnosing certain diseases, understanding more about who we are and why we do some of the things we do, or why we do them. Psychology helps us understand certain diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia, bi polar, and even Parkinson’s because of the fact that all these issues are linked to problems in different parts of the brain. With much more research we can begin to understand this diseases more and more, figure out what causes
Psychology is a study of mind and behavior. Psychological research is mostly focused on the relationship between thought, behavior and emotion; how one influences the other and what are the consequences of such interaction. Put simply, psychology is a field associated with the drive to understand the way human mind works. The topic is slightly enigmatic, but at the same time very challenging and complicated. Where representatives of the exact sciences depend on data, facts and figures, psychologists tend to rely on behavior. Seeing that the majority of work done by psychologists is
Authored by Keith E. Stanovich, How to Think Straight About Psychology is a known work of the psychology world which was published in 1986. Beginning courses in psychology use his text frequently. Stanovich primary purpose for writing the text is to bring attention to his observation that the public’s understanding of psychology is different from psychology as a modern science. Psychology as a modern science explains the underlying functions that shape human attitudes and behavior. To the people who misunderstand this, the field of psychology is not a real science, but a pseudo-science instead. How to Think Straight About Psychology describes people’s several false impressions of psychology and it gives its readers a factual understanding of the field as a modern and scientific psychology while explaining how this science works.
