Violently protesting the presidential election does bring notice to the protesters, but not at all in a positive way. Politicly speaking, there are many effective ways of sharing opinions and spreading your ideas peacefully. Citizens that choose to violently protest are not taken seriously and because instead of making changes they are breaking laws and causing serious problems in major cities across the country. Protesters need to understand how our government functions on a local, state, and federal level. The president doesn't hold some kind of crown in our country. If our president elect for this following January is as bad as protesters claim, he will be removed from office immediately so they have nothing to worry about. Protesting in these current ways make these individuals appear uneducated and negatively radical to the eyes of the public. Our president is not cable of passing any law he desires. All of our national government does not abide by one man’s, or woman’s, decision. In order for our president to pass laws they must first go through congress. Our current government is set up to make …show more content…
Presidents switch parties and policies nearly every general election. We went form President Bush who was a republican to President Obama who was a democrat and now we have a president elect who is a republican again. We are lucky to have this balance so that one party doesn't have complete control over our country. Democratic voters didn’t protest to this degree when President Bush was elected and republican voters certainly didn’t protest to this degree after President Obama was elected. This to me is quite surprising due to the fact that he was our first african-american president. I’m certain that many republican voters were upset about the results of the 2008 and 2012 general elections but protesting was not done to the point where it made national
The relationship between the president and Congress has changed drastically in the past two hundred years. The framers of the constitution did not want an executive power in charge of the whole country in fear of it turning into a monarchy. They knew they needed a leader for America though. The framers did not want political parties. “Political parties established after Washington left the presidency” (Mandate). The relationship between Congress and the president changed in a very visible way. In the past, the president would meet to discuss issues with Congress, but that is not how it is today. Also the president would have to go through congress to pass a bill or an amendment, but presidents found a way around going through congress. The president can sign a bill without congress’s approval. For example, president Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln wanted to pass an amendment that would end slavery but Congress said no. Lincoln then did what the people wanted and signed the emancipation proclamation anyways to end slavery. Also known as the thirteenth amendment. Some presidents even put the people in power.
In the constitution it states that the Presidents purpose is; to be chief of state, chief executive, chief administrator, chief diplomat, commander in chief, chief legislature, party chief, and chief citizen (The presidents job description). As the chief of legislature, one of the presidents duties is to not only review bills being proposed by congress, and occasionally say they must be revised but to also enact laws affecting the people of the United States immediately, rather than wait for them to move up through the many levels and debates of congress. For this, he can use the power of an executive order, a constitutional way to provide laws that relate to national welfare or the good of the citizens. A few good example of this would be executive order 13767, which moves for additional border security on the United States southern border, and executive
First of all, the President has "veto power" thanks to Article I, section 7 of the Constitution the President has the power to veto legislation passed by Congress, which means he can reject any bill he finds unconstitutional or incorrect and keep it from becoming a law. For
However, as the president is chief legislator he power to shape demotic policy most legislation is initiated in the executive branch and presented to Congress in the annual state of Union Address. The president is no guaranteed to see his legislative proposals enacted into law, but he does have the constitutional power of the regular veto and can exercises a pocket veto at the end of congressional terms, Although the use of veto is a sign of weakness there have been many instants, Reagan used 635 while bush only used 12.
Presidents have authority in their own right, coequal to Congress and not subordinate to it.
Does the president have the powers to pass such laws as the Alien and Sedition Acts ? The Alien and Sedition Acts are laws that included powers to expel foreigners as well as making it harder for new immigrants to vote. Previously, a new immigrant would have to have lived in the United States for five years before becoming eligible to vote, but a new law raised this to 14 years. Both acts were signed into law by President John Adams. In this case, I believe that the majority of people would agree that the president overstepped his boundaries and abused his powers. Your power as a president is to help in every way to improve the country, aid in uniting people together, and making an effort to make people with the decisions that you make. President Adams abused his powers, in fact over abused them, because he did not make the smartest move in signing the Alien and Sedition Acts into law. The President overstepped his boundaries, because as a president, why would you agree to sign such laws? You are creating disadvantages for your country, such as decreasing the population by deporting foreigners. President Adams could have made better decisions to enhance the United States.
The U.S. President has a veto right over any bill approved by Congress. This practically means that "if the president doesn't like a bill, he or she vetoes it" (Kowalski 2012: 22). Even with this, his authority can be challenged if two-thirds of the senators and House of Representatives vote accordingly. The Congress also has the ability to limit the president's actions as a result of the fact that it has power over the finances. Similarly, each body in Congress can check the other, considering that all proposals have to be issued
As mention above the President limits the legislative power of Congress by his ability to veto laws. Today the President also plays a role as a law-initiator who proposes bills, which he follows closely through Congress and he uses legislative aids to lobby for their passage. His legitimacy as a law initiator is to be found in the constitutional clauses requiring the President to inform Congress about the "State of the nation" and to suggest measures that he consider "necessary and expedient". Furthermore, he has the power to convene Congress if he deems it necessary.
Peaceful protest leads to both positive and negative impacts on a free society. The main issue of the society isn't just people making bold moves like these, it has to do with people being able to accept them and not deal with it in a violent way, thinking that, that is acceptable and going to solve anything, when it really make it
The Constitution give the president power to veto congress bills. But once Congress passes a bill, the president has the powers to sign it, making it law: veto it, sending it back to Congress with the reason why the bill was vetoed, and finally the president can let it become a law after 10 days of not doing anything with a bill.
This just in Donald J Trump is our president there is no amount of protesting that is going to change that peaceful or other wise. We the people of the United States of America voted him in. If you did not vote for him and do not believe him to be your President
The powers under the U.S Constitution allows the president to use certain tools to influence legislative policy making. There are many different powers under the constitution that the president plays a role in. The president’s influence on Congress can be known through his constitutional powers and the background of his political skills and knowledge. The president plays a role in the judicial, executive, and legislative process, which is also shared with other branches of government. Although it is the responsibility of Congress to introduce and pass a legislation, the president has the ability to either approve or reject the bill
One of the most prominent issues that arise within the President’s powers to get things approved is the U.S. Constitution itself. Usually the result of congressional override; not only does it limits powers of the President but Congress, as well. It comes downs to the approval of a bill, the proposed legislation goes through congress before a decision is made. As we learned, if a President veto’s a bill, Congress is allowed to override it with 2/3’s vote. Vice versa, if congress proposes a bill, the Presidents has some rights approve
There are many flaws in the actions of the President of the United States using executive action to shape policies for the United States, but congress plays a major role in the reasons why there are so many issues pertaining to the use of executive action. Another flaw is that it is not spelled out in the constitution that the president is allowed to bypass congress on any issues that are not attended to. Congress makes a huge fuss about the president executing his executive actions but congress is the one from the beginning that granted that right to him in the first place. The presidents use of executive action on issues, that when applied, bypasses congress. Executive Actions are used to remedy a fundamental lack of action by congress
So, while peaceful protest is allowed, and even encouraged sometimes, violence and chaos is never welcomed. For example, one of the most recent protests was on the day of the Inauguration of Donald Trump. Most of the protesters were peaceful and cooperative, some people even say not to judge these pretests based on one burning car, but we have to! For the safety of everybody around, better be too careful than not careful at all. This point is civil disobedience at its worst. All that this violence does is cause a state of chaos and confusion, where then communities are vulnerable, and vandalizing and looting take place. The night of Donald Trump's election, when there was also protests, people were seen burning the United States flag, which is a crime, but not this night when there was already turmoil everywhere you looked. This is how "peaceful" protests can negatively affect a society, because there is not order and only
