The Protest of a 12 Year Old Brother As I stand here to tell you about the purpose of education I am sure to see questionable looks and possible disagreement. Why? Everyone’s purpose of education is different and I am not here to change yours. For me the purpose of education is to prepare you for a long restless night of studying for college that will soon spread over us. To prepare us for our dreams of being the profession of your dreams and when we may decide to change our path. Education is to teach us everyday things in life. Sappy and Cliche? I know. Everyone wonders what you would use limits for, but seriously education is important in making you the successful human being you want to be. Education has so many complex parts and new curriculums. Some that even cause too much stress and even protest. For example, Common core. Many may sit and agree with me and others may think I am crazy to even bring such a heated topic up. It is a fact though said by Lisa Frenette, “Common Core State Standards have led to an increased value on standardized test performance” ( Frenette Par. 1). The amount of testing is rising and so has the amount of stress that is being put on to kids as young as 8 years old. A woman named Shannon Miller is a school psychologist. Before working with the students and try and help them cope with the increased amount of stress caused by Common Core testing, she said “Out of 38 fourth graders 18 of them tested
