Phones can be used for mobile learning and be cost effective for schools. 70% of schools that had cell phone bans in place five years ago are reversing their policy, because they see devices as a learning tool instead of a distraction. Educators are really seeing devices as a learning tool, not just something for entertainment. Even though some kids might abuse the policy of having phones, they can be put to good use. Smartphones allow you to access resources and material quickly before an exam. In some schools, students bring their own devices to save the school money, so they can buy stuff like pencils, printers, paper, and etc.

Hmm, phones in the classroom! What do you think? That is a debate between billions of people in the world today. Children all over the world have phones, but they can not have them out during school hours. Cell phones are important to so many kids and adults. These devices have been around for so long, and many people can not live without them. All around the school campus, students are miserable without their phones. In the world today, about three-fourths of the U.S. population have phones. A cell phone is an important thing to some people. Without cell phones, kids wouldn't have access to their social media accounts like Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more. So take this into consideration, even if it is in one class, students should be allowed to get on their cell phones during school hours.

Students shouldn’t be allowed to have phones in school because students can easily use them to cheat on tests and quizzes. According to U.S. News “More than one third of teens with cell phones admit to having stored information on them to look at during a test or texting friends about answers.” (Miners, “More than”). Many people already use phones to cheat now even when phones aren’t allowed, so allowing phones to be present in the classroom will give students easier opportunities to cheat. Cheating is also unfair to the students who study and work hard to make grades. So phones not being allowed in classrooms is a better choice so students will study and learn instead of just cheating using their phone.

If we have cellphones in school, students can look up facts up easier and faster than you can do on our chromebooks. If we are allowed to have are phones and we are playing a game, and your volume is up it can distract the entire class if your phone is making noise. If you are in math or science class and you need a calculator you will be able to bring it up faster than you do on your chromebook. If we are allowed to have our phones we will be able to easily study for tests and might study longer because it is on your own device. They will like to do it on their phone so they can listen to music and stuff like that.

The only thing that schools will get from allowing cellphones in class is nothing but trouble.

Phone technology has been upgrading and updating for years now, and that’s obvious, and that means that this generation is filled with it. While it’s upgrading it’s also becoming more in demand than before. Advancements in technology can provide students with a new learning tools where the learning tools will be used in the real world. Students who use cell phones to access research information are able to reach a wide variety of current information. Teachers are also able to teach students the proper way to use cell phones in a professional setting. Cell phones can also raise engagement levels in classes. While cell phones were once considered a distraction, the way society uses cell phones has changed. Likewise, the purpose of cell phones has shifted from solely communication to a variety of benefits. Cell phones should be allowed in classrooms for educational uses because there are so many different ways to learn and study using them.

Although phones may be used to help students with work, North Eugene high school should ban phones because how much of a distraction they can be in a classroom. Schools that have banned phone at school, 82% of students have a phone on at school.(Document #3) If North Eugene at least has a policy with not having students bring the phones in class, that will help with test scores and participation in class. “Students with laptops had a lower test result than those without. An example maybe a student who uses a cell phone in class has no intension in listening or paying attention to the teacher. This student has a short attention span who cares about socializing more than his/her education. Cell phones can be very disruptive; they can invade people’s privacy and can also be used as harassment or bullying. The usage of cell phones is creating a huge problem particularly when they are used in school.

Many places in society are setting policies on digital device. The principal at my school has also set policies on banning cell phones in school. Students should not be permitted to use cell phones in school. Using cell phones during school allows students to cheat. Professor Clay Shirky’s decision to ban students to use technology in his classroom is that those devices are distracting their learning. I do agree with Professor Shirky’s decision when he switched it from “allowed unless by request” to “banned unless required,” because this will not allow the students to use their device unless the professor allows them making the students feel a lot more restricted. Many jobs and institutions today do not allow the use of smartphones during a certain time, especially schools. Prohibition of cell phones in school is a good idea to prevent students from getting distracted. However, high school students should be allowed to access their cell phones at school, because high school students are mature enough to use their cell phones productively and beneficially.
