Civil rights and civil liberties are similar. They each want to protect something or someone. They go off the Bill of rights and the constitution since the Bill only goes up to the first ten amendments. Within the civil rights movement there were court cases that were passed.
Policy making process.
The difference between civil liberties and civil rights are, civil liberties are freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. The liberties are “freedom of speech, religious expression, and press, as well as due process of the Fourteenth Amendment.” (Bianco, Canon 2011, p 153) Civil liberties limit what the government can do to you. An example is “Congress shall make no law… abridging the freedom of speech.” (Bianco, Canon 2011, p 153) Civil liberties are about people’s freedoms. “For example, the federal government regulates the quality of food and water, the safety of workplaces and airspaces, and the integrity of the banking and finance system.” (Bianco, Canon 2011, p 582) Regulations find out if the product is a market failure. There are two types of regulations, which are economic and social. “Economic regulations sets prices or conditions on entry of firms into an industry, where as social regulation address issues of quality and safety.” (Bianco, Canon 2011, p 582) Economic regulations are concerned with the price regulation of monopolies.
Trade policy and the balance of payments. The dollar is similar to other currencies. “Economic conditions worldwide all influence the trade balance but are extremely difficult to control.” (Bianco, Canon 2011, p 584) There are trade deficits, which include exchange rates, consumer tastes, and labor costs.
