Communication is part of everyday life between people and can be used in many different ways. People communicate to build relationships with one another, but also to maintain those relationships formed. When a relationship is built through communication, people then can express their needs, wants and feelings to each other, as well as being able to reassure an individual. Makaton is child friendly sign language and is used in most settings. However in different countries the hand movements can mean completely different things therefore causing a communication barrier. Makaton is also different from British Sign Language, which again can cause communication barriers if one person follows Makaton and another follows British Sign Language.
Different backgrounds also affect how people perceive body language and tone of voice, but also how their confidence and self-esteem allow them to communicate too. Social status can also hinder communication, because people may not be able to read written communication, or be introduced to holding a conversation with someone.
When communicating with someone with different backgrounds, consider their communication needs and how they may interpret the methods you are using to communicate with them. Outside agencies such as Translation and Interpreting services will be able to help you when facing a communication barrier.

Transfer Barriers; when the person is not in the correct environment therefore background noise will interfere with the information being shared. 2.1 People communicate to let other people know their needs and wishes. They also need to tell others if they are in pain and how they are feeling, and to put their anxieties at ease.

Environment is also very important factor. It is good to thing about location. When we talk to someone we have to make sure the place where we staying it quiet, noisy environment can affect good communication. It is good to provide neutral space where both sides will feel comfortable. Things like wall decoration, colour, lighting can affect people feeling, what can affect communication. Place should be also free from any strong smell which may affect on the people.

Language differences – this could be due to the choice of words use. Others linguistic abilities may differ from any individual’s own, leading to poor explanations and misunderstandings. People should consider the language barriers and should have interpretation services available where necessary.

As a care assistant effective communication is a vital skill in the workplace, on an everyday basis. I use all of these below to help promote and ensure the wellbeing of all service users and my colleagues.
Written communication is a vital part in every origination, especially in the health and social care setting. Accurate records and files of patients must be kept and members of staff such as doctors, nurses and carers must always be in constant communication through files, notes, emails and regular meetings. Communication gets better when staff and patients communicate clearly and pay particular attention to detail. Administration also plays an important role in keeping up with all the X rays, appointments, doctors letters and the smooth running of the health and social care organisation. Communication must always be very clear and straight to the point. Effective communication does solve many problems and sometimes it can even save lives.
Communication is passing information from one place to another, which is something people do every day in different ways. People communicate in order to be able to express themselves and to connect to those around them. They communicate at home with family and friends and fellow staff members at work. There is many different ways of communicating such as non-verbally, verbally and whether it is done formally or informally.
