I would like to be considered for either the SMVF TA Center Project Assistant or the SOAR TA Center Project Assistant. While I would prefer to work full-time, my experience working in a transitional housing program for mentally ill and chemically addicted adults, who might otherwise be homeless, would make be better suited for the part-time SOAR TA Center Project Assistant position.
My work experience as a human services worker has developed in me a deep passion for liberty and justice. My communication skills, both verbal and written, have been honed through years of experience conducting open-ended interviews, working with individuals and families in forming and obtaining goals, facilitating groups, and producing documents. I am outgoing and able to engage people in conversations. I am an active listener in that I am able to reflect back what was said as a means of eliciting further information. The technology I have experience with includes a proficiency with the Internet to access information, website management, Adobe Photoshop, and experience with Microsoft Office Suite. Although my knowledge with Access is limited, I am advance user of Word, Excel, and Power Point. I have utilized various video conferencing programs and am comfortable facilitating meetings.

Through experiencing social injustices, and making myself more culturally aware of inequality amongst social classes, I believe I have cultivated the leadership skills necessary for success. Prior to being in graduate school I was not fully aware of all the opportunities and experiences in social work. I have since gained more knowledge of macro level opportunities in the field of social work, such as advocating for human rights, and social justice. I am committed to social justice. My life started off rough coming out of an abusive home. I have worked so hard to get myself to a place where I can help kids that were in an abusive home and have trauma like me. I am a Criminal Justice major here at Westfield State University. My end goal is to help kids in bad living situations. I want to help juveniles that haven't taken the straight path like I did. I feel as though I can help them see that your background doesn't matter, but handwork and passion does. I have experience that not many people have. After I graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara I was unsure what my next step would be. Of course I was anxious since I did not have experience working nor did I excel in my undergrad studies however, I knew I needed to use my newly earned degree in a positive way.
