Objective Questions Unit 10 (Chapters 20 and 21) Yesi Centeno H U.S History 2/14/24. Chapter 20: “Explain the varied motives of progressive reformers.” Progressive reformers were focused on facing problems caused by rapid industrialization and urbanization in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They spoke about problems on certain topics like child labor, bad working conditions, and how only few had wealth and power. They used the power they had to put all this down. They worked on getting this done by doing all they could. They also were helped by journalists so that all that was happening was exposed to more people and more help could have been brought. They only wanted a fair society and showed it by all they did. “Describe the contributions of Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft to the progressive movement, and explain how and why the two men came to disagree.” President Theodore Roosevelt focused on things like “trust-busting” and regulating big businesses and William Howard Taft focused on other things like working on tariff reduction, labor reforms and more. Where the disagreements came was on “trust-busting” efforts. This made them split up. Even though they had split, the two had made differences that lasted for a long time. “Describe the progressive policies of President Woodrow Wilson, and explain why and how they differed from those of Presidents Roosevelt and Taft.” President Woodrow Wilson had similar progressive policies as Roosevelt and Taft but also had a small difference.
