For my internship in Industry and community engagement I was given the opportunity to work as an editor at Mathew Knight productions. For this job I will be spending two days a week editing promotional videos for the company. While experimenting with editing platforms I have never used or not used very much before, such as Final Cut 7 and Adobe After effects. While I enjoyed the first week of working at the company I found it to be a huge eye opener in how the Screen arts Industry in Perth is. At university I am use to taking my time with editing and producing high quality work. This wouldn’t matter if it was a short video or a long video, I never rushed an edit. I could spend a week at times on single a project that might only be a few …show more content…
He told me he wanted them to be roughly 45 seconds to a minute long. I had to source music for a website he had a subscription to and he wanted them both done before the end of the day. This task I found extremely difficult at first as I found it really hard to choose music. Although Mathew had showed me a style of videos he liked it was still difficult finding music of that style that I thought he would like or that would fit the video. This meant I had to edit the sequence first then trial many different tracks to see what fit. While choosing music was difficult, once I had found the music the editing went smoothly from there. I experimented with a few transitions and effects such as a fast zoom, blur transition effect. While I was worried they were might have been too gimmicky Mathew seemed to like them and he was impressed with how I had done it. However though the edits were not perfect. It was my first attempt and while they were a good first attempt they largely didn’t match the quality of videos Mathew puts out. So Mathew went over it with me, suggesting areas of improvement such as cutting faster and cutting with more shots in time with the beats. I took up his advice made these improvements and ended up finishing them both by the end of the day. I was pretty happy with both. However again he really only liked one of them and he wanted more improvements to be
The thought of professionalism conjures up many ideas, and possibly pre-conceived judgements. These will not always be classed as positive or negative, but will undoubtedly have a profound effect on the way you are perceived in your area of work or chosen profession.
He didn’t use their work excessively, he only used what he was using to educate the viewers. He didn’t change any clips he just made a remix out of them. He not only took small portions of the movies, but he also taught us about copyright which helps educate us a lot. Another thing is the commentary, their words have different
I am pleased that I could finish it on time. For the next time, I will definitely pay more attention to my client behavior and his body language rather than what should I say next. I think if we didn’t use the script that, we wrote before, and tried to use our own questions and answers, the video definitely would looks more natural.
you chose the videos, if anything was new to you, how you felt watching it, etc.
I will still be able to take classes that are necessary for me to graduate, while getting the real-world experience that I need in order to thrive professionally. Usually when people think of production it seems very glamorous, but through the little experiences I’ve had over the past year, I’ve learned that it can be the complete opposite. The production industry, whether television or film, can be very spontaneous, unpredictable and demanding, and I don’t believe I’ve even seen the real deal yet. This is why I need an internship that will make me a better producer and also educate me of how to be ready for any obstacle that comes my way. Living in Hollywood, “the place where dreams come true,” will open many more doors for me and give me a different perspective of production. This is exactly what I need in order to get to the next
I also learnt when working in a group you cannot rely on other people, and it is best if you all have a copy of the footage so if someone is away you can still carry on and work. In addition, i found that communication with in your group and with the client is essential, as we lacked a lot of this and it did affect us. I also learnt a lot of editing skills along the was such a adjusting the contrast and brightness which were new to me. I also learnt about synchronizing all the audio up, which was quite difficult at some points, as we did not always have the lips to synchronize it up to. The video turned out good in the end it was slightly different as planned but our clients were pleased with the outcome and were happy to work with us. We also worked well with our clients, which was defiantly our strong
The ‘Thinking Performer’ also challenges what (s)he sees/does and thinks for him/her-self instead of blindly following orders. The situation may have changed which affects the usual way things are being done or why they are needed. (S)he looks beyond the results to why they are required and tries to make a positive difference to the organisation. Every organisation is a living organism and the HR professional should be a (pro)-active member rather than a follower. In the HR Professional Map this is represented by required behaviour such as ‘curious’, ‘courage to challenge’ and ‘personally credible’.
We received our own desk with papers, post-its and file-folders for us to use while at the internship. From our own mugs to a personalized tour of the building, I was immersed in the Blue Ant Media way of work and execution. When my managers Carl and Zoe described my work duties while at this internship I was very excited but I was also told at times could be boring. What was taught to us early on at my internship was regardless of how menial the work could become at times, all the work on all levels was important to a shows completion. From the Digital Media content to TV content we have to make sure that all work is done to the best of our ability. I had worked one internship before at Bell Media and the impression I had from internships was that sadly the intern used where majority of people at the company did not want to work or go. This was not the case at Blue Ant Media. Our involvement as interns is made to feel as important as the Producer who is actively working on the productions of their shows. As interns we not only helped in the development stages of many new shows, but also helped to complete necessary files for distribution. Interns were also mainly in charge of what we call BAM Deliverables which included documents like Episode Summaries, Texted Elements and Lower Thirds etc. All documents that help a show prepare for green lit to be distributed
He stated what he needed, got what he wanted from the videos, and didn't take anymore that was an excessive amount for no reason. I think he executed his plan very well indeed with all of the work he did get in there I think that it was more of a talent instead of instinct to not break the law while making this remix, he also isn't making any profit off of this video. He put it out there probably primarily for kids, to help them learn more about copyright and fair use to help them not make any mistakes that some people are making.
As the producer in charge of technical operations for our group, I had to decide if it was even possible to accept this work. My challenge was was twofold: could I put together the talent necessary to support this work and could I design a method of finishing these shows in a way that would meet their schedule and budget. In light of the extremely compressed time frame given to do so, my initial reaction was we could not. A typical workflow testing and onboarding schedule spans several weeks. We had less than one week to decide whether to accept the work as the client had just received network delivery dates for his first show.
Overall after reading the text InternQube: Professional Skills for the Workplace, this text was very useful as well as interesting. I was able to get a better understanding on what type of mindset I should have going into the workplace every day. This includes daily goals and routines, the way I should professional dress, how I should conduct myself on a professional level in front of people of higher status. InternQube was excellent for my first couple weeks at my internship Stenton Family Manor. First I was able to write up daily work objectives to what I needed to get done for the day. These objectives consist of work practices that would better help me in my field of management. I develop questions for myself such as, what does it take
The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines professionalism as the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person. Yet the White Paper on Pharmacy Student Professionalism says it is displaying values, beliefs and attitudes that put the needs of another about your personal needs. There is still another definition. The Medical Professionalism Project says professionalism is the basis of medicine's contract with society. It demands placing the interests of patients above those of the physician, setting and maintaining standards of competence and integrity, and providing expert advice to society on matters of health. In my opinion, a person's attitude, values, and behaviors
While working or while looking for work there are certain skills sets that are universally important. No matter what job or career path you have chosen these skills make it easier to obtain your goals, whatever they may be.
