I am very interested in a career field in Human Resources. For this paper, I interviewed Lillian Mannino who is a Human Resource and Personnel Manager at the UC San Diego Graduate School of Global Policy and Strategy. As a manager, Lillian serves as the link between the graduate school’s management and its employees. She is in charge of overseeing recruitment, employee relations, policy development, payroll, and benefits. Personnel management is a special branch of management that is focus on the concerns of employees at work and their relationship with the organization. Her educational experiences consist of a bachelor degree at UC San Diego in Management Science and a professional Human Resources certificate from UCSD Extension. She has been working in the academic administration for almost ten years and earned her current position as manager through climbing up the ladder. She started off working in this field as a student affairs officer then was promoted to an administrative specialist. Her prior work experience paved a path for her to build up professional experience as well as a solid network within the UCSD administrative system.
Courage is the ability to act despite fear. This can be said in many ways, but the best example of this word is the war hero Desmond Doss. Out of all the charter traits that he fulfills, the most prevalent is courage. In the Battle of Hacksaw Ridge, Desmond Doss exemplified a selfless sense of courage, not just on the ridge, but throughout his time throughout the war. At the beginning of the war many men were being drafted due to their jobs, but Desmond Doss was not one of these people.
Growing up, the business world has always intrigued me, however I am far more curious and eager to develop knowledge about the operations of Business management and human resources. I have strong beliefs that the business world would not be successful without driven individuals who are respected and are developed in a positive working environment.
Recently I read the book Start With Why by Simon Sinek and throughout my reading I had a realization about my professional goals. The book talks about how the most successful people and companies are functioning under the “Golden Circle” mindset, that you start with the “why” rather than the “what”. Essentially the idea is that you should do something because of your values and not just for the outcome (money for example). I’ve reflected frequently about my personal “why” and I’ve come to the conclusion that it is very important in not only my personal life, but in my future professional life as well.
The professional goal that I have set for myself to achieve is to be the Head of Sports Medicine in college, which is similar to an administrative job. My primary purpose after years of studying in a major university is to become an athletic trainer at a Community College, where I will have both the option to teach and also to be an assistant Athletic Director. I had graduated from a Community College in New Jersey. Athletic training staff have a lot of influence and help every athlete to transfer and continue their education and their sport if the athlete wishes to do so. The head athletic trainer, Lisa, had helped every student-athlete achieve their goal to continue playing or go to college for an excellent education program. My professional
Starting with the hedgerows of the Normandy Beaches to the Bulge to the Surrender of Germany on June 7, 1944 to May 7, 1945 Ambrose tells an authentic story of World War II from the point of view of the men who battled in the war. The author explains the narrative of the “GIs, junior officers and enlisted men “ (Ambrose 14), proved Hitler wrong by driving his Wehrmacht back from the beached of Normandy back to Germany. One of the greatest lessons that the reader can learn from reading the book, Citizen Soldiers is that the success of war is heavily relied upon by the junior officers and non-commissioned officers on the front lines.
In my future endeavors, I would like to pursue a master’s degree in nursing as an education specialist. This specialty of nursing is something that has always intrigued me and after working within the hospital setting I know this is where I aspire to be. I believe helping current and future nurses expand upon their knowledge would be very fulfilling for me.
"They may not have my eyes, they may not have my smile, but they have all my heart" (Chris McKinney). May 28, 1996 was the day the doctors labeled me as a “crack baby”. Six weeks in the hospital I was later placed in a foster care. For eight years, I lived in a homes of total strangers. Lack of motivation, depression, and confusion, have all been things children like me have faced. Every adoption has its own story and one thing I learned is it's a grand adventure. Adoption has a positive effect on society because it becomes a possible solution to abortion, gives children and teens a chance to have a good life, and allows couples who can not have kids to finally become parents.

I am a born leader. Even when I am not looking for leadership opportunities they always seem to fall into my lap. My life has been one that is based on service to others, so I regularly volunteer for committees and extend myself to help others. It is important to me to be the best teacher I can, I regularly attend professional development sessions and implement my new learning in the classroom. However, upon starting the Teacher Leadership Master’s program at Lamar University, I was just beginning my career as a teacher leader. I had not had many opportunities to show leadership outside of my grade-level team. During team planning meetings, I normally directed the discussions. My coworkers looked to me for guidance and interpretation of the curriculum. I regularly made suggestions about teaching strategies. Additionally, I was a member of various campus committees including the Campus Performance Objective Committee (CPOC) where worked together with campus administrators and community partners to develop the Campus Improvement Plan. However, I did not view these tasks as leadership opportunities.
These degrees require candidates to have more training and knowledge of the human resource aspects; therefore, organization see candidates with a higher degree as more qualify and beneficial prospects to their company. A Bachelor’s degree or above, will give aspirant better job opportunities and qualify them for more broad ranges of positions, from hospital human resource management to training managers. For advanced positions in a large corporation’s HR department, or for the position that involved in developing human resources policy, aspirant would best acquire a Master’s degree or PhD.
Choosing a career in medicine is my first career choice, and in many ways it is the only career choice I want. From professional athletes that we see on television, to the educators that have taught me and many others through the years, they all have committed themselves to extensive study. They have practiced countless of hours to master their individual skill set for their profession. I see myself following in the same footsteps, but as a pediatrician. I want to also master the skills that it takes to be a great doctor. It may not be simple and the outcome may not be near, but with extensive studying and practice I want to achieve and master the set of skills of pediatric diagnosis and eventually improve the medical process. This is my
