So how can you shoot the basketball like a pro? Well, with a few key steps you can learn the fundamentals of shooting a basketball.
The first thing you want to focus on is your feet. Make sure your feet are about shoulder width away from each other when shooting. This will help you stay on balance which is key when shooting. Place your dominant hand on the ball with the air hole between your middle and index fingers. Second, make sure you leave space between the ball and your palm. Now you will want to spread your hand out so the ball is balanced in your hand. At this point the ball should also be on your fingertips. Your other hand will be used to balance the ball. Place your off hand on the side of the ball.
Your elbow placement is the next important piece to shooting the basketball with good form. Your elbow should be sticking out from your body at a 90 degree angle. It is crucial that you keep your elbow straight in line with your shooting foot. This is necessary because if your elbow is sticking out you will push the ball to the right or left.
Once you have your hands, legs, and elbow in position it is time to start the delivery of the shot. Move your arms up so that your shooting hand is right above or in front of your eye while keeping your elbow at a ninety degree elbow. Keep your hand and off hand placement on the ball the same as you had it before. Make sure the ball stays in front of your forehead so you are shooting the ball and not throwing it. Next, use your legs to generate force for you shot. Jump and release the ball on the way up, right before you reach the top of your jump. Flick your wrist to release the ball.
