Proactive in policing is the best way to reduce crime. By maintaining a visible proactive police in a community will deter crime and criminal behavior, as well as to reduce the public fear of crime. These goals are equally important and also contribute to enhancing trust between citizens and police. These police officers must actively enforce laws even for low-level crimes and violations before a call for service. This will prevent more serious crimes in the future. Law enforces officers have to shift away from using only reactive policing tactics and also responding to calls after a crime occurs.
This is very important if policies contribute to reducing crime and the public’s fear of crime. Being able to reduce crime and fear of crime, these

NYC policing has been an ongoing problem for many years now, but in recent years it has gone to the point that civilians are starting to kill off our protection. What are the main issues for the police to abuse their power on us citizen’s, is it being racist affecting on how they do their job or is it another element being in played for cops to abuse their powers? In my paper, I will be talking about the certain trainings that an officer should receive before and after finishing the police academy. Being trained in a certain way can affect the way that a cop will do their job and if a police officer is not being trained in an efficient way then it can cause chaos with us as citizens. What is the true problem within police officers in New York
Policing and the way they operate are truly similar as if they are hand in hand with one another. In order for operations to run smoothly and the department to be functioning as one there has to be proper training and care from the supervisors, administrators and from everyone who works together to understand that they’re a team. Everyone in the police department has to work together instead of against one another just to make sure everyone is doing their jobs by the books with no room for errors.
The biggest issue that effects policing is technology. Technology is at a rise and growing at an incredible rate. Technology advancement gives criminals a whole new way or an easier way to commit crimes. Eventually technology is going to take away jobs from our police officers and other individuals working in law enforcement. We are no longer going to need police officers out on patrol monitoring traffic, we have high speed cameras to detect incident detection, and vehicle counting, traffic flow monitoring and even people who violate traffic laws like speeding, running red lights and stop signs.
Policing in the United States has evolved throughout history. The best way to understand it is by becoming familiar with its history. There have been three policing eras in the United States and they were the Political Era, the Reform Era, and the Community Policing Era. The Community Policing Era is the form that is presently used in the United States.
The type of policing style an officer will use in the field is determine by the operation and vision of a police department. With each jurisdiction, have their own unique set of problems, ethnic group, population level, and socioeconomic structure that dictates the police responds and interaction with the community (Gaines et al, 2014). James Wilson, a social and political scientist, discovered three styles of policing; the watchman, legalistic and service. The watchman is the style that focuses on maintaining order through informal methods within communities of blue collar, small, and rural areas due to limited police resources. Officers maintain the peace by resolving serious issues and ignore minor infractions.
To comprehend how policing in America has evolved to how policing in America began, one must understand its antecedents. The element of modern policing in America is connected precisely to its English heritage. “Beliefs about police and citizens, crime prevention, the posse, constable, and sheriffs advanced from English law enforcement” (History of American Policing, nd.) The evolution of policing in America “inherited most of its governmental institutions from Great Britain. British policing can be traced back to Norman Conquest of England in 1066”
Policing can be positive by interacting more with the community in the sense of letting the people know that they are there to help with any serious problem that a person may have. It can also be more positive by officers staying calm when assessing a situation because it is a stressful job and sometimes a civilian can make the job very difficult, but having good communication skills can help the officer keep calm, and stay professional at the same time keeping a good image to the
Police agencies all over the world implement different policing strategies in accordance with the purpose. Community policing is one of the philosophy in which most of the countries effectively working with it. According to U. S. Department of Justice Community policing is a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies, which support the systematic use of partnerships and problem-solving techniques, to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social, and fear of crime (n.d). This essay critically examines the conditions, which would impact both positively and negatively on the police procedures required to implement community policing strategy in the Maldives.
In the last three decades, several concepts have been advanced to organize efforts to improve policing. Among them have been team policing, neighborhood policing, community policing, zero-tolerance policing and problem-oriented policing. Herman Goldstein was the first to propose problem-oriented policing in 1979. Problem-oriented policing is a policing strategy that involves the identification and analysis of specific crime and disorder problems, in order to develop effective response strategies in conjunction with ongoing assessment. The emphasis in problem-oriented policing is on directing attention to the broad range of problems the community expects the police to handle–the problems that constitute the business of the police and on
Since the founding of this country, to the wild west, and up to the present, the agenda of the policing bodies have been clear: to uphold and enforce the laws of our society. Of course the way they do this today had undergone changes from the first police forces of early America, law enforcement has seen trends come and go.
The movie ‘Policing the Police” is a documentary with INTERVIEWS done of citizens and the Newark Police Department. The first word I thought of when I began watching this movie was DYSFUCTION. From both the police and citizens stand point. The Newark Police Department seems to lack organization and communication. The city is a mess with gangs and gun violence. I believe this movie can have both the CONFLICT and FUNCTIONALIST theories applied. Looking at it from a conflict perspective the police and community are having somewhat of a power struggle. The community feels it’s being targeted and its members are being STEROTYPED just for being young African American men. For example, the citizens feel as though they are being profiled and unconstitutionally
2. Manning’s concept of” appearance management is to discuss progressive police, forms of crime prevention and have these strategies been helpful in reducing crime rates. Progressive police views is that they cannot solve crimes alone without society help. They need help in information as while there connections or networks are vast they still have limitations in their organizations. To become co-producers in society is one of the greatest tools civilians in society can use to track criminals or those involved in schemes that can destroy a nation within to weaken their principles or beliefs. Forms of police crime prevention is that crimes can be anticipations according to evidence or studies, so they must focus on areas that have high crime
In recent discussions of police force, a controversial issue has been whether or not cops are using too much of it. On the one hand, some argue that most people aren’t looking at the bigger question: was the situation avoidable? On the other hand, however, others argue that there is only a handful of “less honorable” cops who use too much deadly force. In sum, then, the issue is the choice between whether or not cops are on the citizen’s sides. While many people assume that all cops are generally too forceful towards another’s race, the question most ignore is if other actions could have been taken rather than killing another.
Crime prevention is necessary due to factors such as public concern, fear of crime and the increase of crime due to the fact that in a modernizing world many more people have greater assets and commodities that are vulnerable to theft.
