Women have the right to make their own choices when it comes to their reproductive capacities. Pro-choice supporters believe that women should have the legal right to choose what they do with their own bodies, even if it means ending a pregnancy. If a woman decides to end a pregnancy, from the cause of rape, she should be able to make that choice freely. Keeping her baby could be a constantly reminder of the horrific event that took place. However, the pro-life supporters wouldn’t see her as a rape victim, but as woman who committed murder to their unborn child. Pro-choice supporters believe that women should have a good education on sexual intercourse and they should have access family planning information. Therefore, pro-choice is having
The topic of reproductive rights surrounding women in Texas has been a hot buttoned issue since the closing of many reproductive centers across the state. Recently damaging abortion restrictions were passed and therefor encroach on women’s reproductive rights even more by decreasing access to abortion care. Texas’ 84th Legislature, both passed HB 3994 as a law and had it Governor Abbott make it effective with his signature on July 8, or this year. This law complicates access to abortion services for mistreated and neglected minors and for those who do not possess specific identification cards in Texas.
Pro-Life believe that women should not have the right to have abortions while Pro-Choice believe that women who become pregnant should have the choice to have an abortion. When a survey is done asking Americans if abortions should be legal, illegal, or legal under certain circumstances most people said legal under certain circumstance. “There are variations within each group depending on how liberal or conservative one’s opinions are; some individuals who are pro-life believe that in cases of rape or incest abortion should be allowed, and some pro-choice groups favor waiting periods and other restrictions on abortion” (Arguments for and Against Abortions). Pro-Choice believe that the “fetus is a human being from the moment of conception; this means abortion is murder, which is immoral and should be illegal. While Pro-Life believe that“The fetus is not yet a human being because it cannot survive outside the uterus on its own” (Arguments for and Against
Pro-life is when you believe that the baby is still innocent of the crime. The government has an obligation to preserve all human life but many pro-choice people would argue that the government has no business interfering in the citizens lives and telling them what they can and can’t do. It is an invasion of their rights that they were born with. “In 1960, Planned Parenthood reported that 84% to 87% had illegal abortions it was performed by a licensed physicians. In 1972, the year before Roe vs Wade, 39 women died from illegal abortions. Each of those deaths was a tragedy, but every abortion is a tragedy, because it kills a living human being.” (Pro Life vs Pro-Choice Facts and Arguments) Stephen Adams, Medical Correspondent published in the
During the 20th century, there were a great number of high profile, controversial Supreme Court cases. From Brown v. Board of Education to Employment Division, Department of Human Resources of Oregon v. Smith, no case stands out as much as Roe v. Wade. Roe v. Wade covered grounds that have never been dealt with before, bringing new issues and debates to the table, such as the right to privacy.
Pro-choice supporters on the other hand have been raised in a higher social class where more than likely both parents, but at least the father, have a college degree. They have pursued college and have married mate equal to themselves. They share beliefs with their mates that they are equal beings and want to give their children the best they can. Hence the fact, they would rather not bring a child into the world without being able to fully provide for the child the way they were provided for.
Being a pro-choice defender means taking sympathies to this woman while she then gets called a murderer by pro-life supporters. Abortions sometimes results in the woman being harassed because of the choice she has made about her own body. That’s what pro-life supports.
While, I do not support this position, I have at times, struggled to support women on welfare who continue to have children receiving benefits so I understand the frustration others or the public may express in regards to welfare benefits being given to women who continue to have children while “the system” raises the child. However, it is not for to make choices regarding another women’s reproductive right and would not want someone make such choices for me on my behalf. The NASW and I both are in agreement that women should not be denied benefits based on her choice to continue to children while receiving welfare benefits. “Public policies and legislation,
To have a complete picture of this debate, arguments from both sides must be heard and understood. One of the main tenets of the pro-choice movement is how reproductive choice empowers women and giving them control over their own bodies. To decide if or when they remain pregnant is extremely important to women from all walks of life, whether the circumstances are rape or incest, or whether they simply are not prepared to take care of a child at that time in their lives. Pro-choice advocates point out the possible negative effects of a mother bringing to term a child will constantly remind them of their attack, or serve as a punishment to the mother, all of which can be avoided when women are allowed to choose the right time for them. The US Supreme Court has declared abortion to be a "fundamental right" guaranteed by the US Constitution. The ruling in Roe v Wade was clear; women should have access to abortions if they want them. It has been proven that there is an association between unsafe abortions and restrictive abortion laws. The article states “The median rate of unsafe abortions in the 82 countries with the most restrictive abortion laws is up to 23 of 1000 women”, the median rate in nations that allow abortion is 2 of 1000. It goes on to say that “Abortion-related deaths are more frequent in countries with more restrictive abortion laws (34 deaths per 100,000 childbirths)”
According to Merriam- Webster’s dictionary, Pro-Choice means “Believing that pregnant women should have to right to choose abortion (Pro- Choice). The definition of Pro- Life is “opposed of abortion” (Pro- Life). Both words begin quite the argument in today’s society.
“Pro-Choice or for-Abortion” activists believe in women’s rights, they want to protect the rights of women and what they can do with their own bodies, while those against it “Pro-Lifers or Anti-Abortion”
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is 100% wrong and even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” These pro-life believers do not support the idea of abortion and believe it should be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know that if abortion were illegal they would still be performed, unfortunately by an uneducated staff. Over 70 thousand maternal deaths occur every year because of unsafe abortions. These women die, so the idea of supporting pro-life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro-choice.
Pro-choice is for female activists and their beliefs on women taking control of their own body and making their own decisions. The other side of the debate in abortion is pro-life, which is defined as murder, killing an innocent baby which has no say. It has been reported that anti-abortionists relate having an abortion to murdering someone. They believe that a murder is intentional and so is an abortion because you are planning to abort the baby (Currie, 2000,103). Results have shown that people who advocate for Pro-Life primarily are Christian or Catholic members because of the Bible. In the Bible, it does not say directly that abortion is not permitted it makes references to make it clear that God felt very strong about the fact that a fetus or embryo is still considered a human. It suggests that God creates the baby's life well its in the womb and it also says that the same penalty should be giving to someone who causes the death of the child in the womb as to someone who commits murder (Frechet, 2009). As you can see there is two very strong definitive sides to the debate of abortion, both having strong arguments.
Before I begin I have a question: You are holding a petri dish containing a fertilized egg in one hand and a baby in the other hand; you trip and can only save one which do you pick?
Most people are against abortion will never even become pregnant. So many people involved in government who happen to be men, have the biggest opinion on women’s right and what reproductive choices they should make when they will never carry a child within their body. I cannot why men have such strong opinion of an issue that does not directly involve them. They should put themselves in the shoes of a woman who has been sexually assault, or poor and is pregnant they would not keep the baby as much they advocate for children’s lives when they are born they do everything in their power to keep the mother without government
All around the world, unborn babies are being killed everyday. Abortion has become one of the most common operations in the US today. People that are “pro-choice” believe that it is acceptable for a woman to have the choice to abort her baby or not. They say that it is the legal right of a woman. They believe that a baby is not yet alive until it has been born. It is argued that a woman should be able to do what is best for her future, health, and body. On the other side of the spectrum lies people that are “pro-life”. They believe that human life begins at the time of conception and that killing what is unborn is murder. They defend this with arguments from science, as well as scripture. Pro-choice believes in abortion because it will benefit the majority of women and possibly families. They are looking out for themselves and their best interests. It is Utilitarianism as well as egoism. They believe it is morally acceptable to end the life of the unborn. It will provide the majority with an unwanted pregnancy and a way out of a tough situation. Pro-life is against abortion because of a religious authority and because it will benefit a majority (unborn babies). They believe it is morally unacceptable to end the life of the unborn.
