Press Start: How Technology Has Changed My Life

In an ever-changing society, there is always pressure to accomplish tasks faster. People every day seek to make their lives simpler, live more efficiently, and in turn get more out of the day. Such emerging technologies have helped us make things easier on us in everyday life. When is the last time you saw an infomercial and thought hey I could use that? Consequently, communication has changed and is constantly changing, accelerating the world around us. Just think about how far we have come, and has ever-changed our pace of life. Technology is fueling our way of life, making everyday tasks faster and easier to do. In turn, this gives us more time to do more with the time in the day.

As a travel writer and photographer, technology has helped me greatly in the past ten years. The main way it has changed my life is by making it totally portable, both in terms of equipment and in terms of location. Ten years ago I had a desktop computer and even had an early Blackberry smartphone. But I was still tethered to my desktop in terms of really being able to work and access my data and content. Portability Ten years ago I was able to answer email from my Blackberry, but now I can surf the web, watch YouTube or Hulu, even take HD video, all from my Samsung Galaxy SII smartphone. I also use an Ultrabook 2-in-1 that is a tablet and laptop, which I take everywhere. I can 't even remember the last time I even turned on my old desktop computer, as I do everything from these portable devices. It also means I basically always have my office with me and can work from anywhere. No international technical borders As someone who travels internationally every few months, this is another huge way my life has improved in the past ten years. With the almost all-pervasive availability of WiFi, even on many flights, it 's possible to constantly work and stay in touch. Mobile phone technology means I can just take my Galaxy SII around the world and use it anywhere, I don 't need to buy another phone for Europe and a phone for Asia, as I used to have to do. I also must mention T-Mobile and their Simple Choice global data as another example of how technology makes my life

Technology is defined as machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific knowledge. Its original use was meant solely for the service of humans, however overtime it has evolved into something much different. What was originally meant to be an assisting piece of machinery has changed almost every aspect of our culture. The way we think, communicate, lie, and even love has been impacted by the use of technology, and all of this is has made for interesting pieces of literature. In pieces such as Her and I, Robot, we see the evolution of robots and artificial intelligence into a more empathetic and humanlike creatures. This gradual change in our views of robots overtime speaks volumes to the evolution of technology. Technology in literature has become a reflection of human beings themselves, mirroring the very qualities of ourselves that make us human. By looking at the personality that technology takes on in literature, we can greater understand the aspects of ourselves that truly make us human.

Technology has always been a subject of fascination to me. Technology has brought various changes in everyone’s life. Communication has greatly improved with the invention of the internet, mobile phones and so on. Furthermore, we no longer require to travel far to pay our bills or even to do shopping, we can do all these online at whatever time and place suitable for us. With technology, one has access to all kinds of information. This helps to increase our knowledge and develops awareness. Plus, with technology one has access to various types of entertainment such as television, playing video games, listening to music and so much more. The recent changes in technology has been vast comparatively to any other decade. We have come a long way from riding around on horses to modern self-driving cars (Google,2015). From cordless to smart phones. The technology has completely changed the lifestyle of a day-to-day routine. At the moment we are able to do almost everything on a 5” inch touchscreen that would require basically a whole desktop PC just a decade ago or so. Considering that we have come to the tech era, how difficult is it for the older generation to cope up with the digital living. Now, countless of books, articles, research papers and data are easily organized and accessible online. But, has this easy access to information improved intellectual capabilities? In recent years, the dependence resulting from the usage of small and powerful devices by young people to correlate with others is causing side effects associated with health disorders. Researchers are working to find the best application of technology in human life, without compromising the development of society and leverage the usage of emerging devices and services. The majority of society is more dependent on the evolving technology than they think, causing several issues to human life such as psychological effects, psychological issues, and sociological complications. What can people do in order to prevent the symptoms of emerging disorders?

Technology has adapted a lot within our daily lives making it essential to our daily lives! There isn’t a time will technology will end, because there are always ways to adjust old things and keep improving from there, nothing is perfect. Toilets has increased water pressure for a better flush, but before there wasn’t a toilet, toilet paper even! Communication has also changed from verbal to written communication. Vintage phones that connects to a wire, transitioned to wireless with an antenna, and now a smartphone with a large, slim, touchscreen full of apps! Technology has advanced so much, that the internet was made even though it isn’t physically there. Google is an example of a website that is made by the internet that billions of people of all ages have used at least once in their lifetime. Google.com is a popular search engine because it’s great for planning, research, and entertainment.

Rapid advances in technology over the past several years have made significant changes in our lives. Microprocessors have shrunk considerably while becoming even more powerful that allowed them to meet our growing technological demands. This improvements have led to the emergence of such term as ‘Internet of Everything’, when more and more things, soon to include our clothes, are being embedded with different types of processors, electronics and sensors. While this growing network of everyday objects, all connected to the Internet, has proved to be beneficial in many ways, it has also increased a threat that these things might be breached by individuals so called ‘Black hat hackers’, who violate computer security to steal personal information or even completely damage the computer system (Moore, 2014). Malicious acts committed by this group of hackers caused the increase in the number of cyber-security researchers so called ‘White hat hackers’. These individuals also try to break into the computer systems but with the purpose to find its possible vulnerabilities and then provide a software to fix system’s weaknesses and therefore make it impossible for ‘Black hat hackers’ to illegally penetrate into it (Moore, 2014). Over the last ten years, technology has transformed almost every aspect of our lives before we’ve had time to stop and question it. In every home on every desk; in every palm - a plasma screen a monitor: a smartphone- a black mirror of our 21st century existence. Our grip on reality is shifting- we worship at the altars of Google and Apple. Facebook algorithms know us more intimately than our parents. We have access to all the information in the world but no brain space left to absorb anything longer than 140- character tweets. Black mirror taps into the collective eases about our modern world.

Today was a typical day for me. I woke up and started looking through my email and schedule on Gmail. I did a daily reading in my Jesus Calling App specifically for today, took a shower and reviewed my homework assignment on the UMUC website. Later I went for a run and tracked my mileage on Strava and noticed my friend Mike logged a bike ride yesterday so I gave him a “thumbs up.” Later, as I returned to my schoolwork I noticed some pop up ads for new places to visit in Florida since I just returned there and used my Waze and Trip Advisor to get me around.

Technology is our friend. That is a statement that could be addressed with many questions. How we used technology today has really affected our lives. People are connected every moment of the day. Everywhere we look there are people talking on their cell phones; at every stop light you see people texting on their device. The same people can be seen checking their phone or browsing the web at every chance they get. People are wasting enormous amounts of time staying connected with technology. The technology today has an impact on how we spend our time, and it is astonishing how people are wasting it.
