The two statements I chose from President Obama’s speech are “You made me a better president, and you made me a better man” and “Because I know our work has not only helped so many Americans; it has inspired so many Americans — especially so many young people out there — to believe that you can make a difference,” these sentences stood out to me the most, they resonated with me. When I first listened to President Obama’s speech I was astonished by his remarks, his speaking skills have always kept me in awe. Inspiring me to be a better person in general, Obama’s words “You made me a better president, and you made me a better man,” gives me hope and encouragement in a world full of uncertainty. He possesses attributes a President should, he was
He went on to talk about the nation's need for being “second to none” in defense and in space, for continued growth in the economy and “the willingness of citizen of the United States to assume the burdens of leadership.”
The president, Barack Obama gave a speech at Howard University commencement ceremony. Speaking to the graduating class about the need to keep pushing for change he gave the students at the historically black university advise on how to shape your own future and to always strike for better. The president argues that the U.S and the world is becoming a better place than when he was a collage student. However, there is still work to be done when it comes to employment, achievements, and justice for African Americans. The president also mentions to be confident in your heritage and to aim for greatness. Also that empathy should be extended to all people who are struggling to achieve success or a goal. Furthermore, the president advised the grad
Because of the seriousness of the time period, the address was written to be incredibly formal. Words similar to “candor”, “impel” and “preeminently” describe the type of language used. He was supposed to to sound exceedingly professional and stately while giving his speech. He states his thesis in his first paragraph. This thesis is that the nation will be able to revive and prosper. Continuing with support for his claim, he states that he expects the American people to have confidence in his leadership, so that he can work with Congress to make improvements. He refutes a belief among the people that they can flourish on their own. The people have interdependence upon one another.
Obama is very profound for his use of emotive language; in this speech, he exemplifies this immediately. His use of antitheses opens with, “a bright September day was darkened”. He then goes on to take the spectators back to the tragic day of 9/11. He says, “Hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless September sky, the Twin Towers collapsing to the ground, black smoke billowing up from The Pentagon”. These
A quest is provided for the people to unite in service as individuals in their own communities in order to make America better. By utilizing this statement as a concluding remark, Kennedy leaves a lasting impression within the American people which provides another way his address is memorable today. <- change sentince. How did he?
In Obama’s speech, it says that students must take responsibility for their own success in school, no matter what obstacles they face. Obama claims this will benefit not only the students themselves but also their whole country. Obama's perspective seems to be that hard work is patriotic.
The “Make A Difference” speech by Denzel Washington was a very motivational speech. Washington gave this speech on May 9,2015 during the commencement at Dillard University. He wanted to inspire people to be aspired to make a difference in the world, to bring new and better things into the world. It was meant for the graduates and people around the world who wanted some motivational advice. Washington shared four main key points during his speech which was to put God first, fail big, achieve, and be disciplined. With the help of pathos and rhetorical devices, He used his past experiences to express his ideas through his speech.
The speech “I have a dream” changed to world. It affected millions of American citizens. All of this was because his well written speech. This shows how important it is to put some tough into the speech instead of
“Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you want” and “brick walls are there to show how much people want something,” we two of my most favorite quotes that came out of his speech. The more I reflected on these
The events that took place in America on September 11, 2001 will have a lasting wound on this country forever. President George W. Bush’s speech, “A Great People Has Been Moved to Defend a Great Nation”, gave America something to have hope in. Bush was a republican president and was the 43rd of the United States and was a very passionate man. Although Bush had to make some tough decisions that very day, he was a president that made a lasting impact on America. Throughout Bush’s speech, he effectively covered pathos, ethos, and logos.
He says that, “The future of America depends on you. What you are learning in school today will determine whether we as a nation can meet our greatest challenges in the future.” “If you do not do that -- if you quit on school – you are not just quitting on yourself, you are quitting on your country.” Through hyperbole, audience will have an illusion that giving up themselves means giving up their countries. This makes the audience encouraged and consciously give up being counter and lose the chance to refute. The students, who are given honorable status, will earnestly study and become the defenders of the country. Because of Hyperbole, Obama’s point of view becomes in-depth to the audience and rhetorical motivation is highlighted.
When certain people make speeches, don’t you just feel inspired by their words? For these certain people, they all put it into the delivery of their speeches to be as influential as possible. They use many forms of rhetoric to achieve their goals and gain support. This is the case for Obama’s Speech on the death of Osama Bin Laden. The goal of Obama’s speech is to unite the American people and support the war on terrorism. Obama’s creative choice of words are used as tools to persuade people.
I believe that his words have connected with so many Americans because they show that we as a nation are making progress. His words demonstrate to the public that we are going to experience change that in the end, will help our country become stronger.
The address describes insightfully there is always more to do, always more to learn, and always more to achieve. “Your body of work is never done” (Obama 6). In other words, Obama feels that “its about the daily labor, the many individual acts, the choices large and small that add up over time, over a lifetime, to a lasting legacy” (Obama 5). These are the statements Obama makes in his speech. It is about the daily labor, which means individuals should never let a job distract them from what matters in life or compromise values, principles, and commitments (5). No matter what title you obtain in your life, life is short and there is always more to accomplish. Choices small and big add up over a lifetime and it is up to the nation to make the most out of their lives. In order to make his speech persuasive, Obama uses these rhetorical elements: pathos, kairos, and structure matters.
As I am watching the speech for the very first time, multiple thoughts are coming to my head. Here is our President –Elect presenting this speech to us about how much he is going to help change our county for the better. The beginning first words of his
