In August 1945, atomic bombs were dropped on Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki killing 129,000 people . These atomic bombs showed the impact of nuclear power and the dangers of what it could bring, however if harness safely the advantages could bring innovation and cleaner reliable sources of energy. Nuclear energy is emission free energy allowing nuclear power plant to use little fuels and little waste compared to fossil fuel power plants, only a small amount of uranium is used to produce a lot of energy and cost is low. Also, it reduces greenhouse gas emission because no fossil fuels are burnt, no carbon dioxide is released into the air and it is a reliable source of energy since it does not depend on the weather. I think all of these advantages were considered when scientist was to develop nuclear power plants to produce electricity .

Eisenhower gave a speech “Atoms for Peace” to the United Nations. His speech was for the use of nuclear energy commercially in other words the production of electricity. The purpose of the speech was to convince the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) to work towards disbarment while encouraging the development of peaceful atomic energy . Under Eisenhower, propaganda of 500,000 pamphlets called “The Atoms for Peace and Progress” was distributed nationwide promoting Atoms for Peace and emphasizing the advantages of nuclear power . Atoms for Peace impacted the world greatly by opening up the use of nuclear power for positive means such as electricity and it created regulations for other countries such as nuclear power plants. Atoms for Peace led to the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, which allowed civilian use of the expansion and regulation of nuclear materials and facilities in the United States
