I grew up South African, in poverty with very little. Adding on to being very poor, racist apartheid laws limited my abilities. I could only work a limited number of jobs. I was very disconnected from the world due to not having a television or any other forms of communication. My parents and I were separated when I was a child. I was young and all alone in a racist society. In the summer of 1975, I turned sixteen and it would change my life forever. It was 6:30 on a calm cool morning when I was walking to work. My job was an agricultural job, growing vegetables. The long excruciating walk was at least 3 hours from home. My home wasn’t just a regular home, it was really smelly and small.
