For my practicum, I worked with Ms. Arely Castillo, who is the Coordinator of Marketing, and Communication in the College of Arts, Education, and Sciences department. Within this department, she is responsible for many things, such as: promoting and planning events, assigning organizations to facilities, and helping others to coordinate their events. As part of my practicum experience, I decided to focus on the areas of completion that appeared to further enhance me in my field of public relations such as: promotional media releases, event planning, etiquettes, and deadlines. With Ms. Castillo, I learned many things; however, the process was shaky. In the beginning, it was not much to do because nothing was happening around campus. …show more content…
Castillo required, so I was asked to research and study. After studying, she tested me by constructing a phone interview with herself and then required me to further exercise my knowledge on future calls. Furthermore, she was upset with my emails due to me not properly acknowledging her in it and that I was emailing her as if I was another student instead of my boss. She then called me into her office to inform me on this matter and taught me the proper …show more content…
After completing and sending it, she responded that it was okay, but it needs work. I tried again, but this time she sent me an example of what she wanted for future references. For example, I begun my media release with the following: Monroe, La.- Cyrano de Bergerac screens on February 16, in Stubbs 100 at 6:30 p.m. Ms. Castillo preferred: Ooh la-la! With collaboration between the History and World Language Programs of the School of Humanities, the acclaimed French Festival continues at ULM this Spring semester with the screening of the love story, Cyrano de Bergerac on Thursday, Feb. 16, in Stubbs 100 at 6:30 p.m. Once I had the idea of what she expected, I mastered every release thrown at me. Within Public Relations, preparing, editing, and directing media releases is another essential role. Media release are required to get the message out to the public, or community, in order to attend, in which relating to the public is the most important role of this field. Third Point:
Could have been different if we were told to resubmit as other students did for not having the sources. It is very unfortunate that the comments were never visible on our own personal laptop from school nor on the computer of our counselor when we wanted to review any comments Ms. Escudero could have had made. I learned after the fact that they were comments included that I never saw
Allison Maloney is a public relation major currently but it has not been a direct path for her to come to her major and future career goal. She didn’t enter higher education with public relations in mind. When she started college she attended East Stroudsburg University as a Hospitality Major. She then went to Bergen Community College, first as a business major than as general studies. She then graduated from Bergin with her associate's degree.
At my practicum site we are using Athena health as an (EMR) Electronic medical record. Every facility has their own ways of doing things, but the goal for everyone is patient satisfaction and community health promotion. At the practicum site where I’m currently precepting, first of all, when the patient comes in, a medical assistant would perform an intake on them by doing the vital signs; height and weight check and puts them in the EMR. Moreover, they also obtain the information from the patient about their chief complaint, refills required or any other issues that they need to discuss with the provider. So when the provider comes in, they know what to expect and why patient came in today. Then, the provider obtains the history of present illness and performs a necessary assessment, and
The purpose of the nursing practice field experience is to enhance leadership and research skills; identify shortcomings in policies, procedures or processes; and improve the current processes to ensure optimal patient-centered, healthcare delivery through the use of up-to-date evidence-based resources.
Direct and oversee vendor shop repairs on high voltage motors and equipment to ensure quality; issue repair reports at the conclusion of critical jobs for proper historical documentation; execute equipment maintenance strategies and perform other duties or projects as assigned within budgets averaging $90,000
Although I do not have specific experience as a public relations practitioner, my credibility comes from PR courses and extensive amounts of research into the position. Because of this, I have created a list of potential responsibilities that a PR practitioner will have if they were to be employed at J. Gregory Salon. This list comes from a survey conducted in 2010 by the Institute for Public Relations in predicting what the top duties for PR managers in 2015 would be. (Watson & Sreedharan. 2010)
The advance practice nurse that I chose to interview is Ms. Tonya King BA, MSW, MHA, and MSN-FNP. Tonya is employed with Kindred Hospice University/ Mental Health Facility. The University Behavioral Center (UCB) has been around since 1989, providing high-quality mental health and substance abuse treatment. The behavioral center provides many program options for children, adolescents, and adults. The main goal of this organization is to enable individuals to enable individuals to improve their quality of life in a safe and comfortable environment.
My service learning project his semester was fulfilled at Miracle Hill Ministries. Every November, Miracle Hill Ministries provides a Thanksgiving meal to their various facilities including their shelters, drug rehabs, children’s homes, and even their foster homes. This semester I was provided the opportunity to help provide and volunteer at the Great Possible Turkey Fry held at the Spartanburg Rescue Mission. I chose this event as my practicum project because it was a great need at the Administrative Offices. Because Miracle Hill Ministries is a non-profit organization, this event is fulfilled through the donations and the volunteerism of the South Carolina community. This need was brought to my attention soon after I started my practicum hours.
To show my understanding of how students learn in different methods I chose a reflection on a practicum experience that I had recently for the class Ed 351. For this practicum experience I sat in on three different classroom settings and observed students with special needs in a general education setting. I took note of the different interactions that the students had with their teacher as well as their peers. I jotted down if there were any special adaptations made in the classroom of the use of different devices that they teacher was using to help.
My practicum experience at Kids Hub Child Advocacy Center has been very helpful in me gaining a better understanding of what takes place when there are allegations of abuse in a home. I have had the opportunity to sit in on interviews with parents/guardians to discuss the allegations and their thoughts on what has taken place. I have had the opportunity to watch a forensic interview from a previous case. That was a chance for me to see how the interview was formatted and the questions that could be asked. This part of the case is very important because this is the discussion of what took place from the child’s perspective. Working within a field that revolves around abuse within families there are many moments where things can be very stressful and draining. I’ve learned that it is fine to be human. Emotions are a part of being human so it is important to ensure that you are healthy mentally and physically. It is important to understand the world can be harsh and cruel place but it is wise to think of the greater good and the light at the end of the tunnel. I learned effective communication and problem-solving skills quickly. Some parents were not too happy with the processes that took place with the allegations that were stated and they become confrontational in some cases. In my practicum site I have learned that many of my colleagues work differently with families. Some are blunt and more honest with the parents when discussing the case and then there are some that chose
Public relations or PR, practitioners and members of the media have roles in many complementary ways. The relationships on both sides have common goals of creating story or developing a narrative that keeps the readers, listeners and viewers informed. The downside of this is that both parties have several opportunities for tension between them and their relationships between them can have several ups and downs.
The practicum took place in Fudacion Hogar de Cuenca. Fudacion Hogar is a clinic that has been in existence for 7 years. Doing a practicum in this clinic does help the students who want to pursue a career in medical field to see how medicine is practiced in other countries. This clinic allowed 12 of us to be stationed in different departments that they have such as urology, general medicine, laboratory, ophthalmology, allergology, physical therapy, pharmacy, dermatology, dentistry, traumatology, and hospital. Every week, we were given a schedule that showed us where we were supposed to be during the week. The schedule was well organized because each one of us got the opportunity to observe various department of the clinic. As for me, I was able to observe doctors in some of the departments such as general medicine, physical therapy, pharmacy, ophthalmology, laboratory, allergology, dermatology, dentistry, and hospital. In addition, I was able to learn some materials of each department.
Public Relations, an introduction. This book appealed to me simply because I do not have much knowledge about the subject yet, and perhaps this one could help me start my journey into PR. Also, my bag was already quite full and heavy, and I had to drag it back to the McMillan Student Village from the
I have been captivated with media, mass communication and public relations from a young age. For even as a young teen I would share the daily newspaper with my parents and pester them with questions regarding the major stories I had just read. Moreover, I would assist my father in planning and organizing the family’s annual gatherings, and this task was no easy feat due to the typical high number of attendees to such gatherings and the logistic concerns related to accommodating to their needs and expectations. However, I found that these activities were not only joyful, but also highly insightful and of significant benefit on the development of my event planning, communications and interpersonal skills, as I would take note of the shortcomings of each gathering and work hard during the next gathering in avoiding repeating the mistakes of the previous year. Aware and appreciative of this development, and considering my interest in communication and its subfields, upon earning my high school diploma I decided to specialize my studies and career in the field, and thus I applied to a bachelor of Art in Mass in Communication program with a concentration in Public Relations.
As John talked about himself, where he started in his career and how he ended up at EPB, I began to really appreciate the major I had chosen. I have spent most of my time at UTC so far focusing on journalism. However, getting to shadow John let me see a side of communications that I was not as accustomed to. I had seen press releases before but I never really understood or appreciated the time that goes into a simple press release. He said that any release he writes can take a week or several months. Writing in public relations is different from writing news stories or doing a TV news story in the timing of when the information goes out. When writing a story, it’s usually done over a few hours, or more,
