Introduction: As the saying goes, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”(Marton). A person may by guided by the noblest of ideals and have a cause as pure as gold or as radiant as the sun, but the moment they have absolute power there cause will fall apart and all will have been for not. In Animal Farm by George Orwell, he exemplifies this ideal as we follow Napoleon and his rise to power, or rather his fall from grace towards complete degradation. Over the progression of the novel Napoleon tries to actualize the dream of the other farm animals as he works towards the dream of “reaping what one sows”. In the process, he is put into a leadership position where he shows, the corrosive effect that power has his morals as the story progresses displaying how power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Main Points: The story begins with Old Major, who is a respected on the farm, and who had given a speech that stirred the animals emotions towards the idea of rebellion. He used his power of respect and trust to persuade the others to pursue the vision in his dream by stating, "Nearly the whole of the production of our labor is stolen from us by human beings.
