Like any animal on this planet, we feel fear. Fear for self-preservation, or fear for others. And sometimes theres just a raw, and completely irrational fear that can control us if we let it. Fear is something we can all feel, just some of us have more control then others. Some people will use fear to there advantage. They'll use it to control those who feel it. Fear can cause wide spread panic or rash decisions. But if you control that fear, if you manage it, you'll hold the power others may try to weld. Now there is the frantic, abnormal fear we feel. Fear of monsters, or ghosts, or our own feelings or memories. We play with and use fear for our own entertainment. Like with movies, books, plays. We also have amusment rides for thrill seekers.
Deciding between the right decision or the wrong one begins with fear. Fear lives inside of everybody and some people enjoy it more than others. People are naturally attracted to fear, like in horror movies, dark literature, or haunted houses. Being afraid gives people the excitement they don’t normally get in their regular lives. People like to be afraid because of the raw adrenaline that pumps through their veins, the sound of their heartbeat going faster, and the feeling of pure excitement that comes with it.
Fear can control anyone. It can also control your life and affects your choices. My fear is heights. Every time when we have to go in a car garage or going millions of miles up a building my palms get sweaty, my heart starts racing, and start to have a panic attack. Some people have so much fear of something it can kill them. But my fear prevents me from going on a plane and riding current rides. I was never able to go to Florida or Hawaii because of fear of heights. But that is only one of my fears. Another fear that controls me is clowns. Clowns are devils in disguise cover with over use of makeup. They have this look on their face that I have no words to describe. They earn children’s trust just so they can come in the child’s home to kill
In human nature there exists a morbid desire to explore the darker realms of life. As sensitive beings we make every effort to deny our curiosity in the things that frighten us, and will calmly reassure our children that there aren't any creatures under their beds each night, but deep down we secretly thrive on that cool rush of fear. Despite our efforts to maintain a balance of respectable emotions, we are a society of people who slow down to look at traffic accidents and find excitement in the macabre. We turn off the lights when watching scary movies, and when it's time to go to bed, we secretly make sure the closet doors are shut. Fear keeps our hearts pumping and endorphins rushing, for it is an emotion that reminds us of our
Other people experience fear in different ways. For example, scary movies make millions in Hollywood. Many people pay to watch a movie that will not only scare them, but also give them nightmares. The viewers enjoy the little rush they get when something pops out or someone screeches in fear of a murderer.
During the Salem witch trials, many lives that were taken due to a few people’s self defence. In the book, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, a group of girls caused a whole town to go array. This group of girls were caught naked, dancing and conjuring spirits. These girls were going to accept the blame and receive the whipping for what they did, but one of the girls, Abigail, was not about to go down. Abigail had the whole group of girls convinced that it would be best to lie and to not accept the beating. By doing this, they were put into the court and used to tell the judges whether or not the people whom were accused were truly witches. Though the girls had no way of telling if the accused were truly witches, they
It seems a simple task to create the potential of fear. People have grown to fear mainly similar things and ultimately anything that endangers the innocent part of human kind. Sadly, there is only a slight hint of true innocence that exists in us as humans. How come fear intrueges us, it is not the knowing of its unrealness, because for a moment there, it seems real. Therefore it is an art, how can one be freigthened and fascinated in its most beautiful way. How is it conjured, not just the fear of actual danger, but the art of darkness.
In which school the shooting incident happened today? Should I help my child put on a bulletproof vest? Everyday miserable news are reported whenever we turn on TV. The news glue us to the TV screen and give us a sense of uneasiness. We feel living the extremely dangerous era.
Earthquakes, fires, tornados and many more are part of one branch of disaster and are known the most. Poverty, famine and political upheaving are also disasters. These are known as economic disasters and affect society in many ways. We can then define disaster as being any event, natural or economical, that causes impairment of the natural/urban environment. Many regions of the world face these challenges, and Los Angeles is a part of these. The Ecology of Fear, by Mike Davis, claims that the urbanization of Los Angeles has led to fear of the natural environment. As a result, an “apocalyptic” society was made and is not able to interact with its natural environment.
Jonathan Edwards trusted that fear was a great motivator yet numerous philosophers and lawmakers have opposed this idea. Fear is something so intense, that President Franklin Roosevelt once said "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself". Under fear people will accomplish tasks faster. For example, when I was seven years old, fear helped me learn to write a bike. It was a beautiful day in the spring of 2007, I was at the park with my dad. I wanted to ride a bike without its training wheels so my dad took them off and then pushed the bike while i was still on it. Due to the bikes fast speed i was terrified to fall, so i peddled to keep my balance. Ever since that day I rode a bike without its training wheels. A second example is similar
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following witnessing or experiencing life-threatening events such as military combat and serious accidents. PTSDs are marked with clear biological changes and psychiatric symptoms and there is now increasing evidence that the persistence of this disorder may be related to the inability of patients to overcome the fearful experiences through a process called extinction. PTSD patients also likely develop other mental illnesses such as depression, drug abuse and problems with memory and cognition. Several studies have shown that deficits in fear extinction contribute to PTSD. The classical conditioning
The primary goal of fear messaging or health proposal strategy is to expand, increase awareness, and improves health among a targeted, vulnerable population. The say NO to drug and the egg analogy on effect of daily use of drug to the brain, I found to be a very powerful messaging to not only adults but also all ages. Drug use has been found to be one of the contributing factors to many mental health illness, diseases, and even homelessness. The fear messaging regarding drug can be an effective motivators for drugs users or individuals wishing to attempt drug use. Five years ago, I tried to persuade a friend on drug use, which was a habit that was picked up during a very stressful and difficult time in his life. His increase in drug use almost
The author Marie Lu exemplified the idea that ‘fear is power’ in the novel The Young Elites as the central moral of the story. As stated, Adelina’s power to create illusions is fueled by the fear and hate in her environment. Indeed the intentions Adelina has never fall short of being eerie and unsettling, to understand her view on how strongly fear triggers her intense ability. It had already been discovered that large numbers of people in one area provides more fear for her to consume. This passage just illuminated the statement revealing a bit of her twisted personality. “I can practically smell the terror… The darkness inside me hungers for it, yearning to break free, and I have to force down the irresistible urge to flood this entire square with illusions of Underworld monsters.” Even during all of this, Adelina’s hatred for the Inquisition Axis still burns like a raging fire inside of her, “Let the Inquisition Axis see what happens when they force us to humiliate ourselves.” her revenge against them constantly lurking at the back of her mind.
Culture of Fear, by Frank Furedi, is a book that looks at how widespread fear impacts Western cultures like the United States and Great Britain. Frank Furedi believed that society tends to panic too much, as we actually enjoy "an unprecedented level of safety." I admit that Frank Furedi's novel is based upon a novel concept, and an interesting one at that. However, Frank Furedi comes off to me as little more than a fear monger and an intellectual elitist. His book, to me, seems redundant more often than not. But sometimes part of college is learning about points of view that you may not agree with, so I tried to maintain that perspective when I read the book.
Fear is a feeling created in a response to a perceived danger. Fear can produce pleasure, heighten awareness, be in the form of phobia, a fear of the unknown and an instinctual response to danger.
Fear is the number one obstacle everyone must overcome at some point in their life. When the word fear is brought up I like to think of past situations that I experienced. There are many different methods used to conquer and learn from our fears such and exposure therapy, having a growth mindset, and thinking positive. For example, when I was younger fear was my worst enemy, School was the main reason that caused my fear. My fear of failure was my biggest obstacle growing up so I used that as a method to learn from my fears.
