Have you ever noticed those kids who are getting bullied? What about the children you see being raised by single mothers? There is no hope for them, right? Wrong! Life is crazy when you think about it. Those kids can turn out to be successful when they grow up. Children who grow up in poverty often develop a strong mindset. Poor children grow up having nothing to rely on, therefore they have to use their imagination a lot. Celebrities like Eminem and Young Boy grew up poor, but did not let poverty affect their success. Reasons why poverty did not affect their success was because they had a dream. Secondly, they developed a growth mindset and lastly they overcome struggle. A dream can go a long way for many people. It can be a path for success, especially for kids who grew up in poverty. A dream is something special, it leads you to success if you chase it. In the article How Far Can Your Dreams Take You it mentions that “A dream can take you as far as the power of imagination and motivation.”(pg 1) Young Boy had a dream to become a rapper, this was his path to success. He grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, raised by his grandmother because his parents were not around while he was growing up. He grew up poor, sometimes he would go to sleep hungry. This motivated him that he needs money and that he needs to get his life together. In his song Untouchable, he explained what he had to do, in order to pursue his dream. “Dropped out of school to chase my dream, I had something to
It is known that the children are unable to determine their life circumstances, their families, and care solely for themselves without supervision. With this being said, children have little to no jurisdiction in determining the situations that they are confronted with. Most of the time when we ponder child poverty we think of low-income families or lack of food in the household, but it extends beyond that to “an environment that is damaging to their mental, physical, emotional and spiritual development” (“Children Under Threat,” 2005). Unfortunately, the prevalence of youth poverty in the United States may seem uncommon to those who are personally unaffected by the crisis; however, statistics show that 15 million children (21% of all children) live in families with incomes below the federal poverty threshold (Child Poverty, 2017). Moreover, when considering the demographics of impoverished children the following are true: a child in the U.S. has a 1 in 5 chance of being poor and the younger they are the poorer they are likely to be, and a child of color is more than twice as likely to be poor than a White child (Child Poverty, 2017). Research proves that poverty is the single greatest threat to a child’s well-being as it decreases the likelihood of a child graduating from high school, and it increases the chances of them becoming involved with the criminal justice system (Ending Child Poverty Now, 2017).
For those who are rich and powerful in the United States, they do not have to worry about how their health might be affected by their financials. The reality is, everyone else has to deal with connection between health and poverty. The cost to be healthy is expensive, so when there is a shortage in money it also puts your health at risk. The effects that poverty has on your wellbeing is connected to the lack of healthcare, and substance abuse, as well as the increase in
Many people are born into these nice families with good jobs and nice houses. On the other hand, there might be the single child with one parent living in an apartment. The first person has a higher chance of gaining success because they already know what it's like, also having parents help them guide them throughout their life. Henceforth, this explains how many people don't have the same support and opportunities to achieve success.
What are the main reasons there is so much poverty in America? In the past 30 years, poverty has increased drastically leaving many people homeless and helpless. Adults, as well as the children, are left on the streets to seek different ways to aid their families. If a working family member is injured, then it is up to the others to find ways to care for the injured and at the same time set food on the table. Many women also work to aid their families, however, when a woman works at a factory she only earns the 75 cents when compared to when a male earns a dollar. It does not even seem proportional if a person works for a long period of time and then the person only receives a fraction of what they worked. Despite the economic growth in America, there are still signs of poverty in some parts of the country, which is due to the lack of employment, low wages, overpopulation, and injury.
In 2017, as indicated by ASPE, the poverty line for four people in the United States is 24,600 dollars or less, and will rise as the standard of living costs increase with inflation. Many people believe that if one is poor, than their children will be poor. This opinion is flawed and outdated due to the many programs that help people in need nowadays. Other factors determine the success in a person’s future, such as their mindset and drive. Poverty does not affect power because behavior aspects influence a child's future, in addition to their cultural and geographical background.
For those who live in the United States, some do not see the correlation between poverty and its effects on people’s behavior to their academics. Poverty affects many students at a young age depending on the location they are in as it prevents underprivileged kids to seek higher education. However, with new opportunities [in effect], kids in poverty can have the same education as privileged kids. Poverty stricken students are disadvantaged when trying to obtain a higher education. Children in poverty lose their motivation in school when they do not have the support of their parents. Some other issues students face includes parents not being able to assist their child in school. Another is that the child is not able to go to school because they have to work instead and support their families. Although public education is available to all children, those that live in poverty are deprived of its full potential due to the factors of low family incomes as well as the lack of self-motivation and the importance of having an education.
According to Parker, the chief characteristics of poverty are being tired, asking for help, looking into a black future. As well as poverty being living in a smell that never leaves, staying up all night, insects all over the place, dirt, and remembering. Parker breakdowns what poverty is to her with a good way of portraying it by writing to give the reader vivid descriptions.
Poverty can impede children’s ability to learn and contribute to a social, emotional and behavioral problem. Poverty can also contribute to poor and health and mental health according to the National Center for Children (NCCP). People never know what they have until it is gone, some people may even take what they have for granted. For example losing a job may cause low income and sooner or later no income and then poverty, then the psychological effects that come along with poverty can be harmful to one’s mental and physical health. A Famous business magnate and philanthropist once said: “I believe that if you show people the problems and you show them the solutions they will be moved to act”. In other worlds in order to decrease the rate of poverty, solutions from giving more affordable access to health care and access to efficient education to giving children cash allowance would make a tremendous difference.
Unfortunately, the effects of poverty are serious. Children living in poverty suffer more than children who grow up in a wealthy family. The main effects of growing up in poverty are poor health, a high stress, and low education. Moreover, the poor health and low education are the worst affected, leading to poor early childhood development. The lacks of all of those factors could effects on children motivations for their future. They might lose their dreams and goals what it is right for each child to working hard to achieve their goals, but all of these reasons have more power than children dreams.
Poverty is a chronic issue not just within the United States but throughout the whole world, but one thing that people tend to overlook is the effect that poverty has on childhood. One day I was studying and I had my hood on head and my teacher came over and screamed at me and I got in trouble because I had my hood on. Some teacher will not let us wear hoods and some won’t we should be able to because, it might help us concentrate on test and other stuff like that and if we can wear hats we will take them off at lunch, breakfast and assemblies.

Poverty stricken countries are majorly concentrated in the continents of Africa and Asia. Continents like the Americas and Europe have globally been recognized as been wealthier yet still many parts of these ostensible countries face massive cases of poverty. Most at times, countries with high populations owing to high birth rates face the most cases of poverty. The definition of poverty can be boundless in the sense that poverty entails so many subsections as it sometimes gets complicated to group everything under one umbrella.
