The rise of new technology has offered new methods for organizations to gain support. Social media has given organizations a way to gain more support from people that would not normally support them. It gives organizations a quicker, cheaper way to get themselves known in the community. Recently crowdsourcing like Kickstarter has become a way for organizations to fundraise money. This research paper will explore the positives and negatives of crowdsourcing as a way for organizations to raise money.
The primary article that this paper will focus on is called “Fundraising: Oui or Non?” by Michael Kasier. In this article Kasier discusses how French museums have to find new ways to fundraise money since financial support from the government has significantly decreased. These art organizations have started to turn towards crowdsourcing as the way to raise funds. Kaiser says, “My hope is that they will go beyond crowdsourcing techniques, which, while relatively simple to implement, still only produce rather modest amounts of money” (Kaiser, 2013). He then continues on to say, “If government funding in France continues to fall at current rates, it will take far larger sums of money to make up the difference. A meaningful major gifts program will be required in the relatively near future. This will require a far more personal approach to fundraising than crowdsourcing can offer” (Kaiser, 2013). One negative of crowdsourcing is how it is impersonal. The organizations in most cases
There are also some risks associated with using Indiegogo as a crowdsourcing platform, despite the various advantages provided to HP. As Indiegogo is an online platform, it is indicated that the platform is indeed accessible on a global scale. This means that HP will have to manage a large scale of workers, all around the world. This would require synchronous virtual group meetings and a highly effective two-way information stream where HP is kept informed of all progress and activities being done. This may pose communication barriers decrease the efficiency of meeting goals effectively, which the opposite of what HP is looking to do. Hence, HP’s time would be spent more on management than solution. There is also a problem with the fees associated

Organizations must view their potential donors as people instead of a potential donation. Organizations must effectively and efficiently collect and organize data about each potential donor in order to tailor strategies and techniques that encourage and persuade the individual to support their cause (Weinstein, 2013, p. 110). Organizations must listen carefully to the desires of the potential donor and use this information to create an appeal for support. Once this information is collected it should be documented using fundraising software or an Excel spreadsheet (Weinstein, 2013, p. 73). Although data collection and organizational systems are great, they are useless if the organization does not use the information to request support from unique donors (Weinstein, 2013, p. 111).
This organization holds a charity food bank for the Christmas holidays every year and usually takes about 2.5 weeks to fully sort and package the donated foods for delivery. The organization’s objectives last year involved improving promotions and productivity. To achieve this, John suggested that the organization should use social media to reach out to corporations. He held a small workshop for workers that illustrated how to communicate and persuade corporations to support the organization’s cause. From this, workers privately messaged several PR and HR executives on social media to tell them about the charity and ask for their support. Out of about 200 organizations contacted, 105 organizations agreed to partake in the charity. In addition, about 20 companies approached the organization for more
Opponents who think that crowdfunding should be used in any instance needed by teachers claim that this is just the future version of a bake sale or car wash. These type of fundraising activities have gone on since
Spring of 2009 in the US, there was an appearance of widespread influenza A (pH1N1) which affected school aged children of ages 18 years and younger. It is critical to understand the appearance of the influenza virus and the factors in the population because children play an important role in the spread of influenza virus. The school year of 2009-2010, we assessed several of the Pennsylvania Influenza Sentinel School Monitoring System (PISSMS). They are a voluntary system of schools that reports data regarding absenteeism and trips to the school nurse for influenza-like illnesses (ILI). Contributors included participating schools and nonparticipating schools to evaluate representativeness. Participating schools provided data regarding absenteeism
Maintaining and increasing visitors to museums is essential to the existence of the institutions. Art Galleries, Children’s Museums, Anthropology Museums, Zoos, History Museums and other types of museums all depend on a steady stream of people coming to their institutions. Without a robust attendance, gallery halls are just empty, full of objects collecting dust. Objects and artifacts that the public and researchers are not viewing are wasted opportunities to be an inspiration or to help gain new knowledge. Empty exhibition halls would become no better than 15th century collections locked up in private homes of wealthy individuals promoting their affluence. These institutions keep important stories for posterity by collecting, preserving, researching, interpreting objects, living specimens, and historical records (Museum). Even beyond the cultural implications, museums need visitors to keep income flowing into the institutions. Donations are made to all museums in the form of objects and money. Nonetheless, larger donations are usually made to well-known institutions where the donor knows the object will be seen by a vast audience or that a monetary donation will be noticed by a larger number of people. The importance of a sizable, steady attendance rate to a museum is not a complex issue, and with 850 million people visiting a physical American museum, which is more than all major league sporting events and theme parks combined, it might not seem like an issue that the

Crowdfunding has become commonplace in the art world, but the Jewish Museum launched its first Kickstarter campaign for a number of reasons, of course, in order to fabricate the thousands upon thousands of artworks needed to keep the show fully-stocked throughout its run. Also, through Kickstarter platform, it creates a real Receive Me (I’m Yours) dynamic for reaching a real community around the museum, staging a online dialogue with its donors, eventually orchestrating a unique network in which participatory behaviours translate the collective online vision into physical space.
Indiegogo stands out from other competitors, as it allows for global access online. On top of this, other platforms require the crowdsourcee to contribute or provide additional ideas for the crowdsourcer. However, in this platform, the public crowd does not have to contribute thoughts or knowledge, but rather donate
There are thousands of musical cultures that are found and known in this world. Every continent around the globe has its own musical cultures dated as early as 500 AD and since then, have developed and being spread across the globe throughout the centuries. This development comes with different histories, background, stories and its effect in the aspect of cultural development or cultural identity. My writing however, will not talk about all of these musical cultures and how they have develop since then, but I would like to study and write about one specific musical cultures, originated from the United States of America, merely the southern states of the country, known as the country music.
Whether you're looking to start a new business and you need some ideas, or you're looking for those starting funds, through crowdsourcing you might find everything you need. Asking for help from the online community might not seem a good idea at first, so here's a short list of benefits that come from crowdsourcing.
Crowdsourcing today, as survey groups were in the past, is a useful and effective tool for companies to use to ensure that the products or services they provide are something that the general public, or their customer base, is interested in. However, care must be taken to ensure that not only are the results are accurate and not tainted by some form of manipulation, but also that the information gathered is actually something that is used. In the first case, data manipulation could cause a company to provide something that doesn’t sell, and leave them with
The implications for entrepreneurs seeking to gain global access to crowd capital are discussed encompassing seven streams impacting the entrepreneurship innovation process from product concept, design leading up to commercialization of resulting intellectual property from crowdsourced initiatives along the lines of: (1) decision to buy, build or borrow the crowdsourcing platform; (2) ownership, technology transfer, and intellectual property rights; (3) leveraging value network, globalization, virtual communities, collectivities and social media; (4) financial model and innovation commercialization; (5) leveraging the business model and value creation by aggregating key competencies between the firm and the crowd while facilitating IP
Crowdfunding is one way that businesses can seek money to startup their businesses, finance a new product, or expand their operations. Crowdfunding raises funds or capital by using online and social media networks to get a large number of people to contribute money towards a project in exchange for a good, service or equity. Generally money is raised through a fundraising website such as kickstarter. Another way to describe the meaning of crowdfunding is by the use of small amounts of capital from a large number of individuals to
