Pope Francis has spoken out against the practice of teaching children that they can choose their own sex, saying it is a sin against God’s creation. During a meeting with Polish bishops on the World Youth Day, Pope Francis said there are powerful institutions and countries paying to have the “gender theory” taught in schools. The pontiff suggested that this teaching stems from the lack of appreciation for the dignity that God has bestowed upon the human race, the Catholic Herald details. “Today, children are taught this at school: that everyone can choose their own sex. And why do they teach this? Because the books come from those people and institutions who give money,” Pope Francis told the Polish bishops. “God created man and woman; God created the world like this and we are doing the exact opposite.” The pontiff explained that the issue is becoming a problem worldwide. He said some people think they have absolute power over their own bodies and often think that they also have absolute power over God’s creation. Pope Francis’ recently released statement on the transgender issue has prompted criticism from the British Humanist Association (BHA), which accused the Catholic leader of being homophobic. In a series of Twitter posts visible to its 63,000 followers, the association lambasted the pope for his alleged prejudice against the LGBT community, Premier reports. “The Pope has shown time and time again that he is profoundly homophobic and transphobic,” said BHA in its last Twitter post. “When will people stop revering him as a progressive?” Nevertheless, Pope Francis has been lauded for demonstrating a more compassionate attitude towards the gay and transgender community. Despite his stance on sexuality, the pontiff has repeatedly urged Christians to welcome gays into the church if they seek God instead of ostracizing
Another interesting statement I would like to bring to the surface is Alvarez writes in her book that “boys are born men but girls turn into women” (72). This made me think of the BBC YouTube clip we watched in class. Within this video a mother, father, and daughter are getting prepared for their daughters sweet fifteen. One of the first things I recognized in this film was that the father a male was speaking about and for the females when they were in the same room as them listening to what he had to say. This is a problem in itself as the male voices his and silences the women, in addition, he is speaking on a subject that he does not even fully understand, women. For arguments sake a women would never speak about a man and what it means to be one. This power dynamic within this family is troubling and shows the dominance of one gender over

first paragraph – introduce the organization/campaign In the United States, the percentage of children and teenagers affected by obesity has more than tripled since the 1970s. Data from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2018) show that nearly “1 in 5 school age children and young people (6 to 19 years) in the United States has obesity” (CDC, 2018). “Energy imbalance is a key factor behind the high rates of obesity seen in the United States and globally” (Fryar, 2012). The negative factors of eating and physical activity behaviors has taken its toll on America. The National Football League (NFL) kicked off their campaign, Play 60, to help change the complications of childhood obesity.
What do you know about the Catholic Church’s teachings about homosexuality? Now, is that The topic of homosexuality and what the Church teaches about it has been a very controversial issue. There are many misconceptions about this topic that has begun to spread throughout our society, as more individuals have gathered the courage to come out as homosexual. The Church, nor science, knows why homosexuals are inclined to like who they like. Whether it be a genetic gene or an experience the child had, homosexuals should be treated with respect. As previously said, they are humans. They are people just like you and me. While some people might not agree with their “behavior.” This disputed issue has sparked the interest in many to actually find out
All around the world, there are people with different sexualities; a tremendous amount of them are judged every day because of their sexuality. Not only did lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders fight for same sex marriage to be legal, but people who like the opposite sex did as well. For dozens of years, people have been wanting to legalize same sex marriage while others wished for same sex marriage to be banned. A myriad of individuals fought for this certain right. Those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or Transgender are judged religiously every day. Despite all the judgement, hate, disrespectful looks, and rude comments, they
From the rampant persecution of science and inquiry during the Age of Enlightenment, to the condemnation of abortion and the use of contraceptives in the most HIV/AIDS ridden regions of Africa today, the Catholic Church has nearly always been the “thorn in the side” of progressive ideas, movements, organizations, and institutions. Today the Catholic Church remains one of the largest religious entities on the planet, with nineteen percent of the world’s population and a half of all Christians adhering to its religious doctrines ("Catholic Desires for Change”). Catholicism is unique among Christian secs for its incredibly long history and staunch traditionalism. The church structure has remained almost unchanged since the time of the Roman Empire, and its doctrines are slow evolving at best. The Catholic Church only recently amended its stance on the heliocentric nature of the solar system, when in nineteen ninety two Pope John Paul II exonerated Galileo Galilei’s crimes of heresy, three centuries after the man’s death (Cowell, 1992). As many western institutions begin to diversify their gender and ethnic makeup, the Catholic Church has remained almost devoid of female participation in all positions of authority and significance. The Church’s sedated progressivism has never been more egregious than in the rapidly changing society of the last half century, with the millennia old barriers of sexism rapidly
Homosexuals have been (in the past) and are currently having a difficult time discovering themselves because they think they will be bashed by their own religion (“The Third Way: Homosexuality and the Catholic Church”, 2014). Little do these people know, the people who oppress them are the ones who have been brainwashed to simply believe “homosexuality is absolutely wrong”. The Catholic faith welcomes those who have the desire for the same sex into the church. This goes towards the quote that everyone is a child of God upon his eyes, even those who sin, God is will be there (Hugh,
Pope Francis is loved because he travels the world “telling people what they want to hear.”
Therefore, the more people are okay with the issue and more LGBTQ people are becoming proud. Their rights became major events which lead many activists and also celebrities to support them and fight for the. However, there are people who disagree on the issue. Since I am both a Catholic and a LGBTQ supporter. I do not understand those people. The Holy Bible, they keep showing us is weakening their own reasonings. Jesus told us to love each other not hate. The United States of America, where Christianity is an absolute main religion, the Congress passed the law allowing same-sex marriages. But in Korea which is much smaller than the US, there are no laws like that. Religion is an important and sensitive matter but religion cannot outdo the human rights. And loving someone whether it is between the same sex, is not what others can manipulate. On the same account, I cannot force anti-gay protestors to change. But I believe that they will change because as much the religion is important to them, that is as much LGBTQ people love each other. And quite honestly, it is not their
Firstly, it is because we are living in a fallen world, which tempts people into committing any kinds of sins. One of the important attitude that we need to have is compassion with the real understanding of their suffering. We might still commit a sin because humans are in the condition of imperfection. However, God does know our imperfection, what he wants from us is the attitude of repentance. He will forgive us with His grace and love, but before having the privilege, we must admit that we are sinners and need His assistance in order to have the eternity of life. Secondly, I believe Fields made a good observation of people suffering from their identity. I cannot examine how the transiting is tough and difficult. I learned a new fact that when they are getting used to the opposite sex, they should be able to keep on counseling stuff. This might be a burden for some of them who are out of their budget. Being a transgender is more complicated process than anything. I feel compassion with them, and I would like to treat them properly just like Jesus Christ would do. To sum, I agree on this article because his point view of view on transgender is not aiming for making arguments but rather it helps people have the right understanding of transgender. In addition, because of his explanations of transgender lifestyle, I could imagine from their point of view.
Of the many controversies that exist amongst humanity the one that has consistently been a topic of discussion in an array of aspects. Whether it be the roles of men and woman or the lack of equality the view point on the limitation of men and woman within the infrastructures of our society has been a subject that has saw abrupt shift in culture norms but very little common ground between the opposing view and those who hold them. The social ripples of the feminist movements that began some thirty years ago are still challenging the traditions of todays society and the church has not been immune, but rather spot lighted.
Pope Francis warned that bad exercise of authority leads to an oppressive rule which stifles growth and fosters an environment of distrust and corruption. Instead of following the examples of the Pharisees, Christians ought to help others do what is right and support them when they encounter trials.
In the article, The Real Christian Debate on Transgender Identity, author Emma Green tackles the topic of controversy between the various interpretations of Christianity about the idea of the transgender identity. The article is controversial as it displays two contrasting perceptions of the biblical appliance in acknowledging the transgender identity. Green provides an array of examples of both sides of the debate, those Christians that perceive that the Bible claims that transgender identity seizes to exist and those who advocate for the existence of transgendered individuals. The article begins by addressing the recent transition and exposure of Caitlyn
Hemp is a renewable and recyclable resource whose fibers have been used throughout history for making canvas, rope and paper. Long hemp fibers are spun and woven, or knitted, and then used, alone or combined with other fibers, in order to create textiles. The fibers come from the stem of the plant Cannabis Sativa. Hemp fibre is known as the longest, strongest and most durable natural fibre. Some of the world's major producers of hemp include China, France and Romania.
In “Gay marriage proposals destructive to society, Vatican official says,” Cardinal Ratzinger asserts that “recent legislative proposals for gay marriage are part of a larger modern rupture between sexuality and fertility.” He is stating that gay marriage could destroy the status quo of marriage. He argues that normal marriage is a man and a woman uniting as one, not a man and a man or a woman and a woman. A man and a woman are meant to be together not only for physical purposes, but also for moral ones. There is no way that two men or two women could be together morally because it is not in the Bible. He states that homosexuals are considered people who are suffering and want to find their way, but making gay marriage legal doesn’t really help these people. Ratzinger said that “this is a trend that separates us from all the great culture of humanity, which have always recognized the particular significance of sexuality: that a man and a woman are created to jointly be the guarantee of the future of humanity.”
