Political Involvement In Representative Democracy

Political participation has historically not been high in Texas. Low voter turnout, distrust of the government, and the simple fact that many citizens do not care about politics and government has resulted in the decline in political participation. Although there is limited information concerning political participation in Texas, such as surveys, generalizations form national studies have helped create six categories that provide insight into the problem that Texas is facing.

Despite increasingly lax voter registration requirements, political participation in Texas remains consistently below the national average. The legacy of discrimination, harsh voting restrictions combined with traditionalistic/individualistic political culture that discourages participation has created a perfect storm of political apathy.

Over the course of the Revolutionary War, the people of the colonies fought for freedom, liberty, and a fair government. They were pursuing a better society, and wanted a non-tyrannical administration. They needed their government to reflect this. The Constitution addressed and embodied the ideals and opinions of the people during the Revolutionary Era, which included a need for a representative democracy, checks and balances on the government, and a protection for the citizen’s rights.

Australia is a Representative Democracy, which is an electoral system where the public gets to choose who represents them in both houses of parliament, the House of Representatives and the Senate. The people elect the candidates to which they would like to see who puts forward their interests and concerns. Those elected meet in parliament to discuss and make laws on behalf of the whole community. A translation of democracy means ‘the power of the people’ which comes from an ancient Greek and philosophical term. As a democracy, Australia has their own values and principles that are protected by the constitution and the law.

Hence, the electorate has an idea of whether the potential representatives are truly virtuous. Another way to represent in government is if one is chosen as a cabinet member of the president.. They will have to represents the presidents coalitions and policies to all Local Nations under the government. Government will be base on the overall ideals of keeping the people from rebelling by supplying them with basics of safety, living, education and healthcare. The people under this form of government will only be able to survive on the aid provided by the government. The games will determine the representation and the rule of the government. The overall well being of the people will decent but they will have to endure a test every year in order to get their part in government. “May the Odds be Ever in Your Favor” (Collins, 2008). Every person has to defend themselves and create a strong alliance. They need to work strategically and be intuitive of their surroundings.

The historic and political foundation for lay participation in criminal jury trials is that it offers an important check on judicial and political power exercised exclusively by the government. It promotes individual liberty and with individual liberty a person is allowed “freedom of expression, freedom of conscience, and freedom to own private property (Lynn-Jones). Representative government is the ideal type of polity, it allows for the improvement of the polity. People are able to engage with their government and are not just passive recipients. The government by design has to respond to the people and promote the public interest. The responsibility is on the people to be attentive, capable of taking action when needed, and to have wise judgement as to the actions of its government

If someone were to make a point that I should not have the right to participate in American politics because of my Christian faith, I would simply address the fact that before this person knew I was a Christian, he knew I was an American citizen. With that said I would then go on to state that all American citizens have the right to participate in American politics in some way or another. I understand that you have to be a certain age to vote and/or have a certain qualification to run for office, but you can be any age to have an opinion or even voice that opinion for that matter.

USA- I explained in the last newspaper issue that American citizens should promote political participation because it drives our democracy. The Women’s March during Trump’s inauguration was an outcry for women’s rights exercising political participation.

What is Traditional political participation? It’s a wide range of activities made to influence government as in voting and other things such as protesting or volunteering for a campaign. The United State is a democratic country and we believe to let the citizens of america to put their input of suitable candidates to run our country by voting or other sources. These activities are all important and without these activities we wouldn 't be what we are today but as time goes by, we start to forget why being involve in political matter is important.

Civic engagement refers to the ways in which citizens participate in the life of a community in order to improve conditions for others or to help shape the community’s future. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes.

Since the initiation of the Third Wave of Democracy, several countries have attempted to form a democratic system of governs. We take note that not all have succeeded.
