There were many changes in the 1800’s when it came to politics. Changes were needed especially since the New World finally had their freedom. People had to change to be able to go along with the needed political changes that were put upon them by their new government. Some would say this was a better way of life for the people, and the reasons for the changes was to create a better way of life for everyone financially so their family would be taken care of. For decades meat packing facilities would be packing meat filled with insects and rat. Finally, President Roosevelt got the “Mean Inspection Act” created in 1906. Throughout the 1800’s and earlier, children as young as 11 would have to work in the coal minds and would eventually be disabled
The new government views in the late 1800’s helped to promote America’s huge industrial growth because not one party controlled the government anymore; so all views were used to formulate new ideas.
In the nineteenth century the daily life for the average American was changing, with the industrial revolution in full swing, Americans began to see changes in the economy, transportation, increases in food production, and the birth of the American system of manufacturing. America was modernizing, but modernization took place mostly in the north creating a divide between the south which remained agriculturally based.
A sense of unity filled the United States of America after they gained independence by winning the Revolutionary War. This sense of unity, however, did not last forever. Rather than having disputes with Britain, the United States began to have disputes among its three "sections" - the north, south, and west. Starting with the War of 1812, sectionalism began as a small rift but grew into a huge gap that separated the north, south, and west.
AAmerica began as a small struggling nation, with each citizen desiring an opportunistic way of life. To achieve this way of life, many changes needed to be made. Different people with distinctive ideas came together, and although there was conflict, they made great changes politically, socially, and economically. Each aspect changed America tremendously in a variety of ways. Analyzing each specific change can determine the extent in which America has changed for better or for worse.
1. Political. The Republican party was specifically formed to keep slavery out of the West, and then to abolish slavery entirely. This directly violated Southern life, which was a slave based economy.
During the mid 1800’s, many changes were happening in the nation. To start off, economic development was a major concern. The Cotton Kingdom was becoming dominant in the Southern economy and slavery was still expanding. Andrew Jackson “and his supporters” believed “that the
Sectionalism was a division of the Northern, the Southern, and the Western States during the early 1800’s. These states disagreed on many topics during this time. For example, the country was split over the idea of slavery. Abolitionists in the North made speeches about slavery, however, the North made a healthy profit from the system and textile manufacturing. In the South, the upper class depended on slavery to make money.
During the period between 1860 and 1877, many major changes occurred in America. There were many constitutional developments in this time period, which include the Emancipation Proclamation, the Civil War, and newly added Amendments. There were also many social developments included the Ku Klux Klan and voting of black people. Some of these developments were a revolution, which is a forcible overthrow of the government or social order in favor of a new system, and some were not.
In the 1800s, politics started to change drastically. It was no longer Whigs versus Democrats but North versus South. In every government decision sectionalism became more evident. The Wilmot Proviso is an example that shows sectionalism in the Democratic Party. The South wanted slavery in the lands acquired from Mexico. The North was against slavery in the Mexican Territories. In the North and South, slavery was not the only difference between them. They had very different social lives and economies. The North was very industrialized. Many immigrants came to the North to work in factories. The influx of immigrants caused the birth rate to increase and the population to
Sometimes the United States government does things that the citizens do not like. For example, during the early 1860’s there was a Civil War because people wanted slaves to be free everywhere instead of only the northern states, so they went to war with the southern states so that African Americans can not be slaves anymore. After four years the northern states finally won the war and Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation saying that all slaves were to be freed. I personally would have joined this because it was for a good cause. If it were to be for no reason then I would rather not participate.
Sectionalism played a large part in the fight for and against slavery in the 1800s. Slavery was a big issue, as the North wanted to abolish slavery with feelings about it being intesified in the early 1800s. The North also felt strongly opposed to slavery for the new states in the West. In the mid-1800s, slavery was a common practice in the South. So common that they viewed it as a large part of how their economy was run.
During 1880 to 1860, The United States of America went through social, political and economic changes, which affected the North and South in different ways.
The American Revolution had a very intense fundamental change on American society between the years 1775 to 1800. The thirst for independence resulted in the revolution which caused many political, social, and economic changes. When the revolution began, the people were drowning in jingoism, and after the seven years of fighting for our independence, several changes had to be made. Although some political, social, and economic parts of society seem to have remained the same, America experienced drastic fundamental changes throughout these years and set the standards for even more changes to come.
Political factionalism in the United States in the midst of the nineteenth century was empowered by the advancement of an unprecedented American culture and the move from an agrarian economy to the business economy. This is substantial for a few reasons. Thomas Jefferson was the President when this example began to happen. According to Brennan, President Thomas Jefferson's goal was to pivot the example of enthusiastically supporting the amassing piece of America. He truly expected to reinforce America as a republic besides as an agrarian society.
In "The Most Dangerous Job" excerpted from the book Fast Food Nation, by Eric Schlosser, it discusses the issues of the meat packing industry in the early 1900's in the genre of fiction. It describes the factory in a grotesque manner. The meat packing industry was known as having less strict regulations compared to now. The OSHA should have more firm regulations for the meat packing industry and local restaurants.
