Pojman disagreed with the strong dependency thesis, he reasoned that if we can establish the truth, based on factual or scientific validation, then we can also try to find truth in morality. As science is able to validate its findings through research, moral and truth can also be prove through time and places. As we know slavery was once deemed legal, but in time it was well established and agree upon that owning a person is morally wrong.

Aibileen, on the other hand, hasn’t obtained as much education as Mrs. Skeeter. Aibileen was black, and back in her days, blacks did not have the opportunity to receive the same education as whites did. Aiblieen was a very bright student and would have been very successful if she could have finished school. Even her teacher, Miss Ross, said that she was very intelligent, “You’re the smartest in the class, Abilieen.” Unfortunately, she could not finish school because she had to support her mother with bills that she could not pay herself. She stopped going to school when she was fourteen years old. She instead went to work as a maid and wait on white families. Because of her lack of education, she did not speak very well. She often used slang
Sacajawea is one of the most known American-Indian women. Her voyage with explorers Lewis and Clark was legendary. She was born in Tendoy, Idaho around 1788. She was a member of the Lemhi Shoshone tribe. America was only 12 years old at this time and the territory ended at the Mississippi river. One year after the United States doubled its territory with the Louisiana Purchase, the Lewis and Clark expedition leaves St. Louis, Missouri, on a mission to explore the Northwest from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean (History). Even before the purchase was finished, President Thomas Jefferson sent his private secretary Meriwether Lewis and army captain William Clark on an expedition into what is now the U.S. Northwest.

The impact of the unknow is only holding us back from our greatest potential. Zinn goes in great depths describing the true American History and the impact it has made for the future. The America that is displayed in the book has a more realistic viewpoint of many of our tragic events, that occurred and made an impact to change our history. Overall through our good and bad as a nation we need to grown to ecapt all as it is, for it makes who we are and what our history is. Applying the truth now only opens the door of the positive possibilities to come from learning from our worst disasters, to greatest victories. This shows the highs and lows, the reality of what actually occurred to make natural Americans. Zinn describes in his Afterword that
After reading the essay written by Jesus Villahermosa I believe his thesis statement is “Given my extensive experience dealing with violence in the workplace and at schools and colleges, I do not think professors and administrators, let alone students, should carry guns”. In his second paragraph, he lays out reason as to why he feels this way and shows that he can be considered an expert in firearm safety. Giving information into his background reinforces his position and add to his argument against arming people on college campuses. Some may be surprised that he is against having armed professors and students on campus because of his background. However, I am not surprised that he is strongly against having firearm toting professors, administrators and students throughout campuses. He is properly trained, experienced with firearm safety and marksmanship which in turn gives him great support to his argument.
Thank you for sharing with us. As I was reading your posting. something popped into my head. Why did they keep this law, if you consider, right after the Civil War, state leaders were pushed into coming to grips with civil and political rights for African Americans and had to adjust some of the laws to accommodate emancipation. But, our government, this so-called president that was against slavery, did not change the state’s anti-miscegenation law. I was helping a friend with some support papers and something dawned on me. I think perhaps some other factors kept these book laws on the books. This law was put in place originally to protect white slaveholders who had illegitimate kids with African American slaves. If white masters
Ignorance promotes fear. The Stone Mountain Coal Company exploits the ignorance of its employees to maintain power in Matewan. Keeping Matewan’s residents fearful of their future, fearful of change and fearful for their lives, the Stone Mountain Coal Company retains absolute control over the town of Matewan. Controlling all four social and cultural processes at work in Matewan, the company is able to extract the fear, work, and “loyalty” they desire out of their workers. They are maintaining a feudal environment over their employees, binding them through debt peonage to serve only the Stone Mountain Coal Company, denying them the freedom to search for other employers. The Stone Mountain Coal Company would in fact appear
Every day they woke up in Hell, struggling to survive, and working endless hours, finding out that they were not useful for work anymore, they were sent somewhere else to be killed. This was the life at Treblinka. Malkinia Gora, located in the north eastern region of Generalgouvernement, and it was home to some of the worst labor camps known as Treblinka I and Treblinka II during World War II. These camps were created by Operation Reinhard. The camps ran from July, 1942 to October, 1943. “When the British soldiers entered the camp, after its liberation, they found scenes of unimaginable suffering and men of bones and skin somehow standing on spindly legs, amidst piles of emaciated corpses” (Rajchman, 1). Treblinka was one of the worst concentration

JFK was a leader whose charisma is unmatched during his presidency, while gaining popularity during a very progressive era, specifically Civil Right movement. Many Civil Right activists fought to end discrimination and segregation throughout the United State. The 1800’s is the most hellish era for African Americans, as they suffered lynching, being slaves, and brutally beaten by white people. While slavery was abolished in 1865, the hate crime and bigotry continued anyways as it wasn’t enough to stop the hatred. Many African Americans voted JFK in hopes of having someone that represent change into society for the greater good.JFK was a supporter of the Civil Right movement during his presidency, yet he never made it his top priority. JFK, who had few personal interactions with blacks in his life, was reluctant to address
Harriet Jacobs was an African-American slave that left an impact on several people in ending slavery. Not just on how slavery was, but especially how it was for the women. Pojman has two different prongs: the backward looking judgement and the forward looking judgement. The first prong, backward looking judgement, or the deontological position is the judgement Pojman says that because human beings as rational agents, have dignity one who with malice aforethought kills a human being forfeits his right to life and deserves to die. This is explained through retribution. The first tradition that Pojman uses to justify the death penalty is, retribution. It holds 3 propositions. The first being, all the guilty deserve to be punished. The second, the guilty deserve to be punished, the guilty deserve to be punished in proportion to the severity of their crime. Pojman believes that people who commit capital offenses deserve nothing less than capital punishment. In the thought experiment that Pojman created on page 183 shows how capital punishment is a fitting punishment for capital offenses.
