Plastic Ocean We need to find and make technology to help get rid of all this plastic and use money or items that are needed by people for rewards to get people motivated. With that going on we need to help and educate the public as well so they know that animals and people are being affected by this horrible item we brought upon us. After we find ways to get rid of the amount that are on the land we need to reuse and find ways to use the plastic again so it doesn’t end up in the oceans because we live off of the ocean even though we don’t know it. I will try to notice how much plastic that I use and make it less. I care about the water because I grew up loving the water and I loved going to the ocean to spend time with my family and play
In order to get actively involved in preventing the Pacific Trash Vortex from getting even bigger people need to focus on using as little plastic products as possible and refrain from buying plastic products when they are not in need of such objects. "The best thing you can do to stop the growth of these monsters is use cloth bags, reuse and recycle plastic bags when you do end up with them, limit your purchase of new plastic products and use alternatives when available, and of course recycle any other plastic that ends up in your possession." (Hren & Hren 45) The world is thus in a critical condition as many fail to understand the degree to which their actions have a negative effect on the environment.
Our project is going to help our environment hopefully drastically. My team and I will pick up little pieces of plastic. When birds or any alternative animal consume plastic the animal cannot digest it so the plastic sits in many animal's stomach and builds up filling the bird completely with plastic. Consequently, all birds or any other animal will soon be full with so much plastic it won't be able to eat real food. I, as the leader of this team will be making sure if we detect any trash we will pick it
It is a short video that examines the depth of plastic used and Europe and how they are sometimes dumping the excess waste into the ocean and that is greatly hurting the earth because there are Mediterranean animals that live there and are eating it thinking it is plankton. They also say that it is more plastic in the ocean then it is plankton in the ocean and that is a problem. When fish eat this plastic, it is known as a toxic fish because the chemicals that eats the main plastic that are the main threat is the micro plastic. This is what it takes to make plastic with some of the ingredients added like anti-inflammatory chemicals. With as much plastic it is in the ocean they believe it to be another continent. Animals die from it Plastic
Plastic is one of the major resource humans use to pollute the earth. Some scientist believe that the more plastic being added to the ocean the more polluted it becomes. According to Tobias Kukulka, a physical oceanographer by University of Delaware stated in, Plastic below the Ocean Surface, "You have stuff that's potentially poisonous in the ocean and there is some indication that it's harmful to the environment, but scientists don't really understand the scope of this problem yet." What Tobias Kukulka is trying to tell us is that the more plastic we put into the ocean, soon it drifts from the ocean onto the surface and that’s causing animals to mistake plastic as food. Working with collaborators at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and University of Washington, Kukulka used computer modeling to look at the effect that waves,
Did you know just by recycling that water bottle you just finished, you could be making a huge impact. Ocean pollution is a serious issue is only increasing day by day, but this issue has not just occurred over this past year. This concern has been growing over the past decade and it is only rising according statistics. With the use of recycling, awareness, and policies we change the course of this concern onto a path of a healthier and cleaner ocean.
Plastic in the Oceans: Having been to the Centers for Disease Control’s David J. Sencer Museum this past year, I was able to see the exhibition GYRE: The Plastic Ocean. The ocean has become littered with enormous amounts of plastic over the years and, in some places, entire islands can be found entirely composed of discarded or lost plastic objects. The sheer volume of new and current information currently being put forth on this topic makes it an excellent one for research.
The earth’s oceans take up roughly three fourths of the planet’s surface area and hold roughly 97 percent of all water on earth (Silverman). It is important that people make sure that the oceans are kept clean because the ocean contains many essential elements for the survival of both humans and animals. A rising problem that is not often brought up is the increasing amounts of man-made debris, especially plastic, that are accumulating in these waters that is slowly effecting the oceans ecosystem as well as the health of humans. Some may argue that the plastics have little effect on the environment but the facts show that this is not the case. The amount of ocean debris has increased
There are a variety of stakeholders involved in the worldwide issue of plastic pollution including local, national and international governments, non-government organizations (NGO’s) and corporations with all these stakeholders having a different range of perspectives and solutions on the matter it is increasingly difficult to gain consensus on how to jointly address this global problem. In “Earth Day” Claudia Atticot and Alexandra Manning state, “Every square mile of the ocean contains more than 46,000 pieces of floating plastic” This garbage is ruining the environment; an environment we don’t know how to take care of. So because of this, we need a day to clean up and take care of our environment. Earth Day is a day in which learn about how to better our environment. We need Earth Day because we are still learning about the environments in our communities and most of the world’s water is undrinkable. So, Earth Day is still necessary and we should observe it so we can fix our mistakes little by little.
In the article, "Plastic in Our Oceans", Kimberly Amaral discusses the everyday uses of plastic and how it can be beneficial to humans, but harmful to marine life. As fishermen casually dump waste overboard, animals mistake it for food sources, such as a turtle mistaking a plastic grocery bag for a jellyfish. From the trash brought out to sea, gyres, large circulations of water, carry the garbage through currents, spreading it to all over the ocean, specifically to the central gyre. Amaral notes common ways for marine life to die from plastic, which include entanglement by plastic rings, consumption of plastic bags and pellets which stuff the intestines and lead to health problems, and suffocation. As researchers today work hard to discover
For the last few decades hundreds of human activities have been severely impacting one of our most important ecosystems and the life it sustains. Ocean Pollution also known as Marine Pollution is defined as the spreading of deleterious substances such as human, industrial, and agricultural waste, oil, plastic, chemicals and much more. An article from the NOAA states “Eighty percent of pollution to the marine environment comes from the land.” Humans are responsible for the destructruction of the oceans, therefore it is our obligation within every citizen in playing there part to keep our oceans clean. Ocean Pollution doesn't only affect marine life, but us as well. An article from PlanetAid.org states “It provides over 70 percent of the oxygen
Where does all the plastic go. Every bit of plastic that has been created is still here. This is because plastic is one-hundred percent non-biodegradable! Even the most degraded plastic down to polymers cannot be digested by bacteria (Laist, 1997). If global issues like starvation and climate change are not enough to stress on, the weight of an issue literally churning in the Pacific Ocean is startling. For decades the majority of the world’s population has not been properly educated on the nature of plastic and the potential harm it can do to our environment and our physical health. Due to factors of man and the natural effects of nature, a major problem has developed that is now harming our food.
There is rising unease about throwing out plastic products as well as the accumulation of plastic products in our oceans and landfills. This poses problems for all species in the environment, such as animals becoming tangled in smaller products, organisms consuming the products, or transferring chemicals directly to humans in the surrounding environment. Plastic products being dumped into landfills is not sustainable for our present and future environment. A small amount of fossil fuels is being used to create plastic products. The fossil fuels are practically wasted because the products are cheaply made and are thrown out shortly after purchase. Depleting the amount of fossil fuels, rapidly filling up landfills, and manufacturing briefly used plastic products is not sustainable for our environment. Increasing the amount of recycling, cutting down on plastic production, and reducing on the amount of littering are all valuable solutions to cut down the amount of plastic in landfills. (Thompson, Moore, vom Saal,
In the 1700s, romantic poets would portray the beauty and serenity of nature and the world around them through their work, unfortunately now, they would look down upon the human with disgust. These great poets would be ashamed to see how ugly the world has gotten. The Human race has polluted this world with gasses, spills, waste, by-products of war and just common 21st century living routines. One of the biggest problems that plague this world is plastic, people use it every day for everything and it's killing the planet, but modern day society is too blinded by their egos and the constant ongoing political agendas to examine nor take action on the problem of plastic build up. Plastic is the cloaked killer that's destroying this planet the
We need to keep doing our part by recycling and taking any extra action we can to keep our planet thriving. If we all do just a little bit, it can make a huge difference. As I mentioned earlier, the best thing we can do is educate the people we are surrounded by. The community needs to be aware of new programs in place to help prolong life on earth, sustainability. With education, everyone can learn how to live a more sustainable lifestyle. The expansion of the program is really aimed at making it easier to do the right thing, recycle.
