Plagiarism is all too common in schools from middle school up to college. It is the easy way out for many students to hand in work without actually doing the work and thinking for themselves. However, there are also some students that don’t know the definition of plagiarism and are doing this unintentionally. To clarify, the definition of plagiarism is the taking of another person’s ideas, content, and work while submitting them as your own without any credit or citation given to the owner.
I compared the University of Erskine’s Academic Honesty Policy to Evangel

Therefor, sense they are a Christian school, they are more strict on plagiarism. Unlike Erskine, Evangel has a link in the student handbook that takes you to an even more in depth definition that is a whole page. Evangel stated the penalties due to the failure of following the Academic Honesty Policy. The penalties are either a fail for the project, paper, or other assignment, a fail for the course, or even suspension or dismissal from the school depending on how big of the penalty.
There are several ways that students can avoid plagiarism. The best way is to be informed on what plagiarism actually is. If a student is unclear on if they had committed plagiarism or not, they can always ask a professor, or another informed student. If students know the guide lines of plagiarism, there shouldn’t be any plagiarism present. My tip along with other student’s tips here at Evangel is to obviously not plagiarize. You are only cheating yourself and the risks of failing, getting suspended, or even getting kicked out of school are not worth it.
