Pit Bulls What do you think of when you hear aggressive breed or dangerous dog? Pit Bulls have been given the label of an “aggressive breed” or “dangerous dog.” A dangerous dog is one who inflicts serious injury, or poses an imminent threat of serious aggression toward people or other animals. We do not pay attention to other breeds when we think of dangerous dogs. We pay attention to the ones that look the most threatening, like Pit Bulls. Pit bulls should not be labeled an aggressive breed because an animal's environment can affect how the act towards other dogs and people, other breeds can have more or the same aggressive level as Pit Bulls, abuse is the main factor in all animal aggression and the way dogs are trained can also affect aggression. …show more content…

One reason a dog may become aggressive is their living arrangements. Living indoors compared to living outdoors affects their behavior greatly because a dog who lives indoors tends to have more positive socialization than a dog who lives outdoors (The Star). The most aggressive dog can be a dog who transitions from living indoors and outdoors. Another reason a dog can become aggressive is the amount of positive socialization the dog gets (The Star). Their living arrangements affects this as well, but so does the type of socialization a person gives to the dog. A dog that has negative or very little socialization may not know what to do in a positive social situation and may become aggressive towards the people in the situation. A dog that has lots of positive socialization tends to have more people skills and is likely to be more friendly to new people and other animals (The Star). Attitude is another cause of animal aggression. When people give positive attitudes towards animals, the animals tend to give a positive attitude or behavior back. When someone has a negative attitude towards an animal or to something they are protective of, like a mom’s puppies, they tend to protect themselves or others by being aggressive (The Star). Also, when a dog feels he or she is in danger, they will tend to take an aggressive action to protect themselves. It does not matter if the person causing any danger is friend or foe (ASPCA Aggression). The environment of the animal matters because it can greatly affect their aggression
