Pink Monologue Analysis

Markus Zusak’s, The Messenger features the protagonist Ed Kennedy, and how he completed each mission of aces; diamonds, clubs, spades and hearts. The suit of spades was symbolic to Ed’s overall mission as Ed had to dig through truths about himself. Before the suit of spades Ed’s thought of himself was that he was worth nothing, evident through the narration of Ed’s monologue. The suit of spades saw Ed wanting more for his life, evident through the characterisation of Ed, the changes in his monologue.

She, Brandon (me) and the Kit all grew up on the bad side of town (I haven't picked a location yet, as I wanted everyone's input once I got the group together) She and Brandon are very close, almost like siblings, and he's very protective of her; they have a relationship like Dom and Mia from Fast and the Furious.

Pretty in Pink and Some Kind of Wonderful are two films both written by John Hughes and directed by Howard Deutch. They depict themes similar to that of The Breakfast Club. Central themes such as class and popularity along with secondary themes of angst, love, self-discovery, fitting in, and the need to connect with others are prevalent throughout both of these films. Pretty in Pink is a prime example for the depiction of class and popularity. Its strong main characters, Andie and Blane, contrast in both of these categories and they develop into deeper story lines as the movie progresses. Class is a strong theme throughout the entire film and is presented in unforgettable scenes. Everyone is nervous walking into their first big high school house party, but the look on Andies face as her and Blane walk through the door is unforgettable. Clearly someone of a different social status, Andie, a true fashion icon, dresses how she desires but sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the upper-class teens. No one can forget the iconic line, “Nice pearls. This isn’t a dinner party, honey”, uttered at Andie in this scene. The clear and evident vulnerability of Andie shows just how uncomfortable she is in this setting along with the guiltiness of Blane for having brought her there. In Arthur Miller’s play called The Crucible, suspicion serves as one of the driving forces behind the events in the play. This leads to many false accusations, and the loss of trust in one another. As the story unfolds paranoia increases as accusations are being made, further intensifying the fear and mistrust among the characters. Ultimately, suspicion, intense paranoia, and irrational fear cause widespread chaos and devastating consequences for both individuals and the community. In Arthur Miller's The Crucible, suspicion drives the characters to question one another's motives and causes them to turn their back on one another.

Lush red and orange leaves touched by morning dew fill the limbs of an old Oak tree, rustling as the wind slowly made her way by, teasing the edges of the leaves and tempting them to come with her. The weaker ones went, not realizing their fate, twirling in her presence, following as far as they could manage in the air, encased in feelings of happiness and freedom. Soon, however, the wind died down; causing the leaves to drop and crumble onto the ground. They couldn't express their feelings of remorse so they crumbled in on themselves, shutting out the wind. She came back at times, and some fell for it, the ones that hadn't learned their lesson, they followed her again. Each that did, were ripped to pieces. The tree, in the end, had been robbed.

When I and George found Lennie I knew deep inside me, that the dream couldn’t continue. It was just like Santa Claus, everyone believes in it because one person keeps the spirit up. Lennie believed in it and wanted it most but now he can’t stay here and he will probably die. I hope he will be alright because he reminds me of my dog. He needed me and I was dependent on him because otherwise I would turn lonely. It’s the same with George and Lennie where Lennie is my dog and George is me. Good morning/afternoon class. Today I will be performing a monologue. As part of the Beenleigh Quota Club Eisteddfod this year, there is a Literature themed showcase. The aim of this showcase was to give voice to a marginalised or minor character, one whose voice is not heard extensively. The book we had to read was ‘The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and the character I have chosen is Kurt Steiner, who is one of Rudy’s siblings and part of the Steiner family.

In the articles, “Feminist Bodybuilding” by Anne Balsamo and “#SheSquatsBro” by Lauren Jackson both have distinctive views on beauty perspectives and how women are involved in the fitness culture, Balsamo is more focused on how bodybuilding competitions expect women to look more feminine and Jackson goes in further by telling us how black women are criticized when they participate in “trends” such as the popular workouts within the fitness culture. Balsamo uses the film “Pumping Iron II” to show how bodybuilding is for women (Balsamo 346). While, Jackson uses social media and music videos to show how black women are emulated and judged when they participate in the top trends (Jackson 3). The horn has already sounded and I’m still running. I can feel my blood pulsing in my ears. The sounds of useless advice feels the air. I continue to run. I come across a cave and ran into it. I gasp in shock and as I walk into a lab filled with mindless people editing videos. A film crew rushes at me and says, “If you were able to be in Divergent, which character would you be?” I shake my head in confusion. I attempt to back up slowly, but they grab me and place me in front of a computer and yell, “Edit!” The slam the headphones on my head and everything becomes a blur.
