The Pillowcase Project is a national program offered in schools, after-school programs, summer camps and other youth programs and events to teach 3rd - 5th graders and their families how to prepare for disasters. The Pillowcase Project curriculum is structured by three core principles: Learn, Practice and Share. Students will learn about hazards, how to prepare for emergencies, enhance coping skills, practice what they have learned and share their knowledge with friends and family. The program emphasizes the importance of practicing protective actions, developing an emergency communications plan, and practicing a home fire drill. The program also teaches students how to create their own emergency supplies kit by packing essential items in a pillowcase for easy transport during an emergency. Students will have the opportunity to decorate and personalize their pillowcases during the presentation, and are encouraged to take them home to create a …show more content…

The Easter egg hunt was designed for children in the church community. Another event I volunteered in was making prayer blankets for the homeless. A prayer blanket is two pieces of fabric connected by knots, and with every knot tied, a prayer is said for the person the blanket is going to. I also participated in volunteering for the vet. Similarly, my family was a member of the Missouri House Rabbit Society and fostered a total of eight bunnies. We eventually adopted two bunnies named Shannon and Clover. I love to make a difference in my community, even if it was a small deed.
To become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, one must complete community service in order to give back to the community. When I was twelve years old, I chose an organization that I found interesting and that I wanted to spread awareness for, The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C.. I felt a personal connection to this organization, and for my Bat Mitzvah project, I created and sold necklaces, where all the proceeds went to the museum. This project inspired me and helped me mature from a girl, to a woman. Ever since my Bat Mitzvah project, I have been making these necklaces in my spare time. Over the years, I donated thousands of dollars and countless hours of my time to help this important cause. If all students are required to choose
Additionally, I volunteered with community programs focused on alleviating health care issues. For example, I worked with an organization that promotes community discourse on the unique, hidden health challenges of homeless and low-income women and girls. Not long after that, I volunteered at two events,

The reason for this email, is to request an opportunity to share with you and your viewers, information regarding a cutting-edge baby blanket, that reduces hypothermia thereby reducing the propensity of SIDS/SUDS cases. Recently, the World Health Organization in conjunction with the National Institue of Health has noted that cold stress or hypothermia is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in infants. By reducing the exposure to moist atmospheric conditions, we reduce the number of SIDS/SUDS cases. The cutting-edge blanket is known as the Rain/Element Blanket and is produced here in Charlotte, NC. The Rain/Element Blanke is a light-weight blanket that has been designed to repel moisure. By eliminating moist atmospheric conditions, you
In California, there are school programs that will help prepare the children for the disaster. Not just that, the program are placed to help them gain knowledge on the mechanism of natural disaster, to be specific an earthquake disaster. The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Service (Cal OES) (2008), developed a program that
Making the choice to swaddle your baby is the easy part, choosing the right swaddle blanket can be overwhelming, having many different kinds and brands to choose from. Some are sewn simply and others are sewn with buttons, velcro and other notions to keep your baby secured.
16. Ralph and Goldy Lewis Hall, which houses the School of Policy, Planning and Development at USC, has, in its ground floor hallway, two sets of maps presenting information about Los Angeles. The set of maps on one wall are part of a display entitled “The Geography of Buzz.” The set of maps on the opposite wall present graphic displays of information about Los Angeles. Briefly describe the two sets of maps, one on each side of the hallway.
Do you have some old tin cans and some scrap fabric? These two things are all you need to do a variety of craft projects at home. If you are looking for a fun DIY gift, then a perfect idea is to make decorative pin cushions from tuna cans.

I've gained lots of knowledge in various areas of this course; however, a fundamental concept that I think that is overlooked and is vital is carefully planning is how to handle a disaster. I learn a lot from the bioterrorism preparedness assignment and importance of proper planning and drills before an event. Since these types of attacks are unpredictable as I enter the field as a healthcare administrator my organization must have the necessary plan, tools, staff, and equipment to be able to handle this type of situation correctly. Another thing I found interesting is the hospital safety scorecard that provides details of how hospitals measure up against other hospitals with safety protocols, and this data is available to the public to help
I chose to do baby baskets with handmade blankets for premature babies and deliver them to the mothers as my senior project because of my interest in babies and my wanting to learn more on premature babies. I thought it would be a good idea to give to mothers to help provide some things for their baby such as formula, bottles, body soap, baby lotion, baby powder, 3 premature baby onesies, 3 newborn onesies, diapers, and a blanket. During this project I learned that premature babies need a specific kind of formula so that they can get the nutrients, iron, calcium, and vitamins needed. I also learned that finding diapers and clothes for premature babies can be hard. I learned a lot more about premature babies in specific and all the things parents
We will be hosting our event on Saturday, December 3rd, from 12-4pm at our local YMCA. This will allow time to not only get up and get their day started, but to also have time to get to the health fair event. In addition, they will also have enough time to walk around and explore each booth. This will be beneficial for multiple reasons. With hosting our event at the YMCA, we may be able to inspire individuals to become members of the gym if they choose to take that next step in the direction of a healthy lifestyle. The YMCA also offers various programs for older adults such as the Silver Sneakers program.
Getting a good night's sleep is an important part of maintaining not only your physical health, but also your mental health. Experts have established that people who sleep inadequately have a weaker immune system than those who have adequate sleep. Hence getting a good night’s sleep becomes important. Having a pillow that allows you to rest your head in comfort will allow you to sleep adequately and comfortably. For those seeking a fluffy, soft pillow filled with natural materials, a feather pillow fits these requirements in full. Considering the vast majority of feather pillow types and manufactures, it gives one a headache just to select a pillow good enough to guarantee a good night’s sleep.
A designer adopts the highest challenges when developing shelter for another human, especially from the dangers that lurk post natural disaster. Transitional shelters need to be constructed quickly. Victims need to be sheltered immediately. There is no grantee as to how urgent the government will be able to conduct the reconstruction of a region (Meinhold, 2013). The designer must begin with the assumption
