The sheer joy, attitude, and bluntness of children turned even the most ordinary tasks into a smile. Working with multiple groups of active and engaged little minds over the years, I witnessed several amusing moments that never failed to brighten my day. I found myself working with children for a good portion of my life, beginning with babysitting to becoming an instructor for various volunteer opportunities including Camp Mosaic and Early Childhood Development Center. This was my comfort zone for a long time and pursuing a career as a teacher seemed like an obvious choice. However, little did I realize that an unexpected turn in my life would lead me into the world of healthcare and to the profession of physician assistants (PAs).

I quickly recognized I wanted to practice medicine as part of a team and under supervision. However, I still desired sufficient independence with extensive and in-depth training. With this in mind, I began forming opinions about the various careers in healthcare until I came across the PA profession. By shadowing Araya, a PA, at a clinic, I observed how she provided sensitive and comprehensive care to the patients. She took time to explain to the patients their diagnoses in a warm, personable, and comforting attitude, which were all personality traits that I possess. I was extremely pleased of the lengths the PA went to in order to make the patient feel included and taken care of. Prior to this experience, I knew I wanted to construct strong relationships with my future patients and understand and treat patients as a whole. Not only was this palpable within the care Araya provided to her patients, but I now have the opportunity to build relationships with patients as a healthcare volunteer at Jamati Clinic by listening attentively to their main concerns as well as their outlook on their
In my time volunteering at the hospital, I hope to gain many different experiences. However, there are a few main ones: adaptation through enrichment and dependability. First of all, I want to get to know and adapt to the environment of the hospital and learn how different processes work. This is a crucial part of being in the atmosphere of a clinic. Also, the experiences that I will have at the hospital will help me to understand the routines and entailments of the career I would like to pursue. I hope to become a Physician’s Assistant in the future and this will be the best way to know if it is the right position for me. This enrichment of my understanding will help guide my passion for this career path and hopefully strengthen it.
One good Career job in the medical field is to be a Physician Assistant. If a person wants to work under the Physician this is the job. The career that I have decided to pursue is a physician assistant because this career seems like the right fit for me. A physician assistant, also known as a PA, practices medicine under a physician. Physicians assistants usually specialize in a certain area of medicine and they either work in private practices or hospitals. They partake in a wide range of jobs ranging from examining patients, ordering diagnostic tests, prescribing medicine, and many similar jobs that physicians do. In rural areas, PAs have the ability to be the primary physician because of the lack of physicians in the area. This career was located in my third top career cluster, health sciences, from the interest assessment and the career, was under the career pathway of therapeutic services. I feel like the I have the skills needed to fulfill this career because I enjoy helping people even though health sciences was not in my top five career clusters from the skills assessment.
It was an uneventful midmorning day, on the general medical floor; a list of patients already drawn out with what needed to be completed during our shift. A group of people huddled together discussing treatment plans and options. At that present time, rounding was just for physicians and physician assistants. But dietitians were recently included, so I got to watch as the providers presented their cases to one another. One individual stood out above the rest as she was presenting to her attending; she was confident, poised, and didn’t skip a beat during her presentation. Once the meeting was completed she sat down next to me and we started talking. She introduced herself as Becky, a physician assistant. Having never heard of the role before, she explained that she does examinations, diagnosing, carrying out investigations, as well as treatments and prescribing. Becky could tell I appeared very interested in this, and asked if I was able to spend some time shadowing to learn more about her role. The next patient she saw, I was able to go in the room with her and watch her examine a new patient, discuss his course of treatment, and follow up with the attending. She took me through the entire process of seeing a new patient from a PA perspective. That was all I really needed to get the wheels in my head turning for a new career.
There are more than 100,000 certified Physician Assistants practicing medicine in the United States. PA’s have a very high starting salary and get to do a lot of hands on work. After just two years of schooling you can come out making an average of $94,000. Being stuck at a desk all day is dreadful, and physician assistants get to choose what they want their work environment to look like. Job opportunities for a PA are expected to go up by more than thirty percent between 2010 and 2020. When you are a PA you have a huge amount of flexibility to choose your specialization. I know that a PA is the best career choice for me because i love to work with people and enjoy social interaction, i love to have flexibility to be able to spend time with my family, and there are very good benefits and there will always be job openings.

Since I plan on becoming a nurse practitioner, connecting with other students who are striving toward serving God while working in the medical field, will allow me to learn from them. At this point I am most interested in working at a primary care doctor’s office. I really enjoy having conversations with adults and want to work in a context where I can help them understand the tests that they are undergoing for a normal check-up or when they are ill. I feel that I am gifted in talking with and comforting people. These gifts are very useful in the career of nursing and I want to use them to the best of my ability as I care for patients. I want to help patients and their families understand what diseases or ailments they are experiencing and how the doctor wants to treat it. I want to try to get to know the patients on a personal level and show them God’s love through the way that I interact with
Because of my past, I learned the brutal life of the marginalized populations and these significant events have influenced my aspect of being a PA”. Even though our medically underserved populations have grown fast and they represent the significant part of our social group. Yet, despite their growth rates, the medical attention given to them has diminished. Although there could be myriad intellectual comments, I believe in the main cause for such a harrowing issue is a lack of the stark wiliness of health caregivers to provide a quality service in the isolated communities over the favorable surroundings. Therefore, I want to become a PA to channel my academic experiences and work ethics in a course that will empower me to influence on varied people’s
I initally contemplated going to medical school, but during my shadowing experiences I found that the PA profession has many advantages. For instance, PAs have the option to persue a variety of diciplines in the medical and surgical settings. Additionally, they can change specialties without having to go through an additional residency, like physicians do. As a medical scribe in the ED, I work alongside the PAs and physicians which allows me to gain a comprehensive understanding of both professions. I enjoy working with the PAs because I am able to assist in the majority of their procedural work, from sutures to I&Ds. Also, the PA profession is built on a team-based approach to patient care. This style allows for a more collaborative and comprehesive way to care for patients thus improving the overall quality of
Every day is a gift to be embraced wholeheartedly. It is our job to fill that day with a hopeful and meaningful purpose. It has been said that “the most powerful life is the most simple life” Max Lucado. How great it would be if we could all go after our passions and help the world with their unique talents. I want to use my abilities to build a healthier world by increasing beneficial years in my patients’ lives and provide quality healthcare. I seek a Physician Assistant school that will direct me to be the best I can be, expand my knowledge, push me beyond my perceived limits, and help me to become a competent PA worthy of this respected profession.
Developing long-term relationships with patients is what I’m looking forward to as a Family Physician. Through my experiences as a medical student, intern, hospital volunteer, and observer, my most enjoyable moments are those spent listening to the patient. I have learned that communication, empathy and good listening skills, attributes
When the doctor and I entered a patient’s room, she first asked the patient how her family was doing, using specific family member names and remembering certain life details. When I looked at the patient her face lit up, happy with the personal interaction. This interpersonal interaction between the doctor and patient showed how she cares about the patient and listens to them. When the medical issue was brought up, I saw the physician take the information she knew about her patient and tailor the solution to her, and then discuss which option would be most effective and reasonable. When I become a doctor I want have the same unwavering dedication to my patients, to create an atmosphere where the patient feels heard and valued, the solution is discussed together, and there is
Primary care has always been my intent because of my desire for longitudinal patient care. The alignment of personal and professional preferences made pediatrics a natural choice. My hobbies of illustration and storytelling provided a mutual point from which to build a rapport with the children. Professionally, pediatricians have greater opportunities to create fun and playful educational opportunities. This positive, entertaining environment matches my disposition; to enjoy my time with patients as much as possible, within the limits of professionalism. This was demonstrated during my third year pediatrics clerkship.
While volunteering for Union Hospital, I was not only assigned to assist in the emergency department, but I had the wonderful opportunity to aid the offices of some of the hospital affiliated physicians as well. At Union Physician Services in Newcomerstown, I had the great opportunity to work for the family practice of doctors Coulson, Burrier, and Miller, three great physicians that gave me the opportunity to observe them during their practice. While their day included a multitude of tasks, nothing made me more eager to come to their office than the prospect of getting to talk and interact with patients to discuss their healthcare needs. This is a portion of the profession where you can observe the trust that patients give their physician,
As a young adult, I was once again back at the hospital, shadowing medical professionals and asking questions. Through these visits, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of a career in medicine. I learned that a physician participates in many different relationships: with patients, with other physicians, with nurses, social workers, and other care-givers, as well as with hospital administrators and insurance carriers. Often, these relationships can be difficult to
