Participating in sports has led me to the career of physical therapy. I have been an athlete all of my life. I have played every sport from tackle football to softball and every sport the community of Sitka offered. Being involved in several sports at one time helped me realize how easy it is to get injured and how crucial it is to have a physician that is supportive and understands an athletes injuries. By going to McKendree University I will be able to become a physical therapist and help injured athletes recover. By helping other athletes in pain, I would be giving back to the athletic community and helping young, aspiring athletes to chase their dreams. Wrestling has led me to my perfect school for my degree. At Mckendree University I would be able to get a Masters Degree in …show more content…
Without wrestling I would not have found the perfect school. As well as physical therapy, I would like to continue after college. Wrestling is not a high paying sport for professional athletes, but I am not in this sport for the money. This is something that I love and hope to be involved in it for the rest of my life. Another career path that I could take would be welding. Welding is a skill that is always in high demand and I could work anywhere in the country
I have five people in my family; my mom, dad, older sister, and younger brother. My dad is a Japanese teacher at MEHS and also is the wrestling coach. My mom is the occupational therapist for the Sitka School District. My sister is a sophomore at University of Alaska Fairbanks. My little brother is an eighth grader at Blatchley Middle School. My dad grew up in Savoonga, Alaska and attended MEHS in high school. He came back to MEHS and has taught there for 18 years. He has always been my wrestling coach since the day I was born, but he has taught me
Because my sophomore year of wrestling was over too i decided to do a lot of offseason wrestling. I really was able to fall in love with the sport and continue to get better and better. At the beginning of my junior year i was super
I started wrestling in sixth grade. Even though I didn’t win one of my first seven matches, I developed into a successful wrestler. In high school I won tournaments and beat high-quality wrestlers. During my junior year I was determined to become a great wrestler. I worked harder than ever and didn’t let anyone stop me. That year I lost the Illinois state wrestling tournament championship match by one point. Over the next six months between my junior and senior season I was runner up at AAU national tournament and wrestled at Disney Land in Florida at the Disney Duals with over 50 other teams and only lost 1 of 8 matches. These are a few of my achievements in high school. Now that I am in college there are many
Much of my life has been influenced by the sport of wresting. My father is the head wrestling coach of the high school I attend; my whole life I have watched the sport, and spent time with his past teams. In the fifth grade I told my father that I no longer wanted to continue wrestling; we made a deal that when I reached high school I would join the team and if I still felt that wrestling was not a sport I wanted to pursue, I could quit again and end my career. When I entered high school, my brother had already been attending the same school and wrestling for my dad on the school team, so adapting to high school and high school sports was more simple for me than other students. The winter of my freshman year I was, as I had promised my father, out for the wrestling team.
Ambrose to study physical therapy. I would love to be able to help people reach their potential or recover from a traumatic injury. This career would constantly provide rewards as the patients’ progress. However, the thing I love about this career is the challenge, trying to figure out treatment plans, body reactions, tolerance, and the most effective methods. I feel like this would be the perfect career choice for me because I am capable of taking on big responsibilities, sharing my knowledge, and helping
I am a native to Virginia Beach going to Salem High School, and played multiple sports for the Sun Devils. Growing up sports was a big part of my family, which made me overcome adversity with serious knee injuries. I tore my ACL twice on the same knee, and it made me behind on the recruiting for colleges. In the end, I worked hard to get a scholarship to college in field hockey. When I was little, my dad would take me to the Admirals games, and watching the player’s movement on the ice.
The biggest reason why I wanted to attend college was for sports. I wanted to go into a great program with great people. My parents told me that lacrosse was a perk for college but the education portion was most important. I believe my coach Zach Nedbalski was a huge inspiration for my appearance here at Methodist University. When I was on my visit at Methodist, Zach made me feel at home with comforting words and his presence was very warming. He introduced me to the lacrosse
Coaching wrestling has been, and continues to be, one of the most meaningful and heartfelt experiences of my life. Wrestling has helped define my personal character, teaching me discipline, and enabling optimal performance under pressure and stress. I am grateful for the opportunity to pass this on to other student-athletes. The impact I have on their lives, as well as the one they have on mine, transcends the competition of sport. Simultaneously, I progress as a leader and role model, while they develop character and work ethic as young adults. I have been there for these athletes since the beginning of their high school career. Witnessing and being a part of their evolution has been an amazing experience. Whether it’s the smile on their face
Initially, in the future I would like to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy. I want to become an Occupational Therapist because I would love to help people recover from injury to regain skills. I am very focused on my career and the path I want to take in pursuing my career. The medical field has always been a passion of mine.
When I was applying to colleges, I was confident in my decision to major in Athletic Training. Science had always been my favorite subject in school and becoming an Athletic Trainer was a way to combine my love of science with my love of sports. I knew I wanted to have a career in which I could help people. Working with athletes to provide preventative services, emergency care, therapy and rehabilitation seemed the perfect way to combine all of those interests. Growing up, sports were always a big part of my life.
Yeah, that is what I envision for my future. I have goals of becoming a Physical Therapist and going in to business with my twin sister by opening up our own physical therapy practice. By having a degree in Exercise Science my clients, which will be athletes, will see that my focus is really on them and their needs. It shows that even though I am not an athlete I am knowledgeable of how they move and operate and what it takes to make sure they can perform at their best. I am determined to achieve this
My time on the mat was not always that of heart break. Going through elementary I never had a losing season, let alone a season where I lost more than five matches. In fifth and sixth grade I took place in NYWA and Gopher State. Gopher State is a tournament for the top wrestlers in Minnesota and all the states surrounding it. That was some of the hardest wrestling I have ever encountered. I placed in the top six at NYWA and not placing at Gopher state unfortunately. The summer before my junior year I went to multiple wrestling camps costing thousands of dollars and lasting weeks in time. And when it came time to vote for captains I just knew I was going to get it. The night before the coach told us who was going to be awarded captain
I have realized that the career I want to purse is athletic training.Having researched this career I am committed to pursuing it because, it gives me a chance to help athletes recover from an injury ,or either preventing an athlete from getting hurt. My next steps are finishing Tulsa tech, then next year I will be starting college in the fall to begin my journey. In closing
The sport of wrestling became my entire life when I was eight years old and it is the reason I am the man you see today. Wrestling helped me discover who I am as a person, and it is also a big factor in the career path that I am on today. There are countless times during my wrestling career that have been life lessons and eye openers to me, one incident that stands out from the rest was the first wrestling tournament of the season.
After high school, I’d wish to pursue a degree as a physical therapist assistant. Ever since I was younger I always knew that I wanted to become a PTA or else an athletic trainer. Sports introduced me to physical therapy and physical therapy assistants. I’ve played sports ever since I was a little girl. I also got injured many times playing sports which led my to go to physical therapy. I’ve always thought that the body was so fascinating and always want to learn more about it. I participate in Health Occupations where I am able to actually go shadow a physical therapist and see what they do.
Wrestling has impact my life in so many ways. From the coaches, teammates, family and friends supporting me all the way. I have learned many life values from wrestling. Wrestling is a very challenging sport it is extremely physical as well as mentally challenging. I feel wrestling has prepared me for the rest of my life because all that comes with wrestling can be applied to life.
