My Journey and the Role of PTA
Fist of all thank you for taking the time to read this essay! But most importantly I would like to thank you for taking the time to listen to what I have to say about my experience of the profession of Physical Therapy and the role of the PTA. During my journey of the profession, I observed inpatient and outpatient settings. My observations take place in the TIRR Memorial Hermann--Rehabilitation & Research hospital and the 1960 Family Practice Physical Therapy. Therefore, I am going to share my experience of inpatient and outpatient settings.
In TIRR Memorial Hermann—Rehabilitation & Research hospital, I was exposed into an inpatient setting, which is one where patients with severe heath problems may need hospitalization service to help them recover. This person or patient is required to stay at the hospital or facility because he needs to be observed and treated by medical professionals.
In addition, I was sitting on the mezzanine overlooking in the first floor gym. This was a distant observation and I didn’t have interaction with the therapists and patients. I only was able to observe the inpatient rehabilitation. I did love how the therapists interact with their patients. These include routine services like visits or therapy routines. Because I was more exposed into the outpatient setting, I enjoy it even better. In this Physical Therapy clinic I observed, but I also had the experience to do some non-clinical duties such as, help patients move, keep equipment clean and organized.
