For my interview I talk to Derrick Williams he has been in the field of physical therapy for six years. Mr. Williams says in his words " A physical therapist is a person that helps patients get back on their feet makes them feel better about life". I found out in order to go into this field Derrick says "you have to take some basic science/biology and a anatomy class. Now I knew that you have to connect with your patients. The information I found the duties he does is he uses physical fitness to restore functioning to reduce pain in patients.
Ever since I was a kid, it has been my life goal to help as many people I can. I have moved around in many different areas of the medical field, but no career had caught my eye as much as physical therapy. As an athlete, I have been in and out of the physical therapist’s office for a majority of my life. Each time I have went I could not help but be beyond grateful for what these people have done for me; they have given me the ability to play the sport I love despite all the hiccups. Physical therapy is a dynamic field within the field of medicine because as a physical therapist one can make a difference in the lives of his or her patients, enjoy job security, and enjoy a rewarding and personally satisfying career.
I am currently a licensed physical therapist assistant in the state of Florida. I have worked as a PTA for 10 years for the same company. I am a dedicated employee. While working as a PTA I wanted to further my education in the field of health education. I will be graduating from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Education meeting there honors requirements for cum laude this summer. After graduation I will continue to work towards my short term goal to get CHES certified later this year.

I interviewed Mrs. Kelli Goedde who works as a physical therapist and manager at the Haubstadt, IN ProRehab location. She has been working as a physical therapist for 24 years and has experience in evaluating and treating patients with various vestibular dysfunctions and outpatient neurological diagnoses. She also has training in utilizing rehabilitative ultrasound imaging in rehabilitation of core muscles in the back, sacroiliac, and pelvic pain patients and is trained in dry needling. I went to her over thanksgiving break and asked her questions about her role as a manager and physical therapist of her clinic, because I would like to work in a small-town clinic as a physical therapist also. If I am accepted into the University of Texas at El Paso Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, I plan to use my past experience and training from the program to oblige under privileged areas and communities. Moreover, I began to prepare for the mission of providing culturally skillful and dialectal experienced care through my experience shadowing and volunteering under Sandra Terrazas, where I have been in contact with patients of different ethnic backgrounds. By sitting in on patient evaluations and therapy sessions of primarily Spanish speaking patients, I am taking steps to learn Spanish in order to better serve the patients in my community and beyond. Likewise, I have been volunteering at a clinic where I can observe different diagnoses and populations such as geriatric patients, breast cancer survivor therapy, incontinence patients and sports injuries.

These hard working individuals are heroes to so many people every single day, and often they do not get enough credit. Physical therapists are highly educated professionals who specialize in making life painless and easier for their patients. An immense amount of work is put into this profession, through years of rigorous educational courses. The education that a physical therapist goes through to receive licensure is all used in their day-to-day life on the job. All in all, physical therapists are life changing specialists who come through a difficult educational system to obtain a license to use in their daily life in this profession.
The physical therapy profession is concerned with treating individuals of all ages. In the future, I plan on being able to comfort individuals undergoing physical therapy by being able to use my compassionate nature, caring, understanding, and the expertise that I will gain, while serving as their physical therapist.
