In S.E. Hinton’s book The Outsiders, Johnny and Dally are foil characters due to their opposing physical traits and beliefs about life and their behavior towards others. A foil is a character who contrasts with another character. Although Johnny and Dally are in the same gang, they are foil characters because they are very different. One thing that is different in their physical trait is Johnny has jet black hair and Dally has almost white hair and has blue ice cold eyes. Also, Dally has a tough look and he’s bigger but Johnny is smaller and nervous looking. Another way Johnny and Dally are foil characters is that they have different beliefs.
